  • Patent number: 5655826
Abstract: An improved push button switching unit is proposed of which the indicia on the key top is recognizable even in a dark place. Namely, a phosphorescent layer emitting phosphorescence even in a dark place is formed on the upper surface of the key top to provide recognizability of the indicia and further the switching unit is provided with a light sensor means and a light source which is lighted when the ambient lightness is low as detected by the sensor means. When the switching unit is used continuously in a dark place, the light source repeats cycles of a lighting period, in which the phosphorescent layer accumulates the energy of light, and a dark period, in which the phosphorescent layer emits phosphorescence by means of the accumulated energy, so that the power consumption for lighting the light source can be saved.

  • Patent number: 5653942
Abstract: A chemical analysis slide cartridge includes a box-like cartridge body in which a plurality of chemical analysis slides are stacked. A slide take-out port is formed in one end of the cartridge body and the chemical analysis slides in the cartridge body are taken out one by one through the take-out port. A pressing member is slidably received in the cartridge body and is adapted to be brought into contact with the stack of the slides on the side remote from the take-out port to push the stack of the slides toward the take-out port. Ratchet teeth are formed on the inner wall of the cartridge body and a claw adapted to be engaged with the ratchet teeth is formed on the pressing member. The ratchet teeth are not formed in a predetermined area near the end of the cartridge body remote from the take-out port so that the claw cannot be engaged with the ratchet teeth when the pressing member is near the end of the cartridge body remote from the take-out port.

  • Patent number: 5651244
Abstract: The ring spinning method drafts a silver in a multi-stage drafting system where the silver acquires a total draft in a range of from 60 to 150-fold. Following outlet from the last nip of the drafting system, the drafted silver is conveyed without drafting over a guide path in which the fiber band is condensed to form a compact fiber strand of not more than 2.5 millimeters width and preferably less than 15 millimeter in width. At the end of the guide path, the fiber strand passes through a twist inhibiting nip between two rollers and is then passed by twist distribution to a ring spinning device. The yarn produced possesses a high quality with respect to hairiness and neps.

  • Patent number: 5651776
Abstract: A luer-type adapter has a dual instead of a single set of engaging screw threads. A proximal and a distal screw thread on the hub engage proximal and distal screw threads on the collar of the connector to provide at least twice the engaging or sealing force between the tapered surfaces of the stem and hub which are forced together by rotating the collar relative to the hub to engage the two sets of threads. The diameters of the engaging distal screw threads have to be sufficiently great so that the proximal screw thread on the hub can pass under the distal screw thread on the collar in order to effect proximal as well as distal engagement. An O-ring mounted on an untapered distal segment of the stem engages an untapered inner hub surface to provide additional sealing force which is particularly useful where gas is being provided through the adapter.

Abstract: A fiber filler for filling voids between mated fiber plies, for example, as occurs in the preparation of a preform assembly for forming a T-shaped structural member, is disclosed. The fiber filler comprises a plurality of unidirectional fibers, shaped to conform to the shape of the void and a stabilizer intermingled with the unidirectional fibers. The stabilizer is present in an amount sufficient to hold the fibers together in the shape of the void, but below an amount which would inhibit resin flow during subsequent injection, so that the fiber filler is fully integrated into the final part.

  • Patent number: 5649670
Abstract: The axle of a chuck for a spooling machine is mounted in a damped manner within a fixed casing. The axle is rotatably supported in bearings which, in turn, are mounted in annular carriers which are spaced from the casing by a small annular gap. The carriers are supported by resilient pins in elements which serve to mount the bearings in place. In addition, a damping liquid, such as oil, is introduced in to the gap between each carrier and the casing to damp oscillations transmitted from the axle. In one embodiment, a hollow ring filled with damping liquid may be used to center the bearing and to damp the oscillations.

  • Patent number: 5648875
Abstract: A novel optical scanning system which is cheap to manufacture, which exhibits an excellent f.sub..theta. characteristic and which satisfactorily corrects curvature of field in a sub scanning parallel direction. The optical scanning system is formed by two or more lenses. One of the two or more lenses is a corrector lens which corrects curvature of field in the sub scanning parallel direction. The corrector lens is made of plastic so as to have a substantive power only in the sub scanning parallel direction. The corrector lens is smoothly curved along its longitudinal direction into a shape which corrects curvature of field in the sub scanning parallel direction. The cross-sectional configuration of the corrector lens taken in a plane which is parallel to a central optical axis and perpendicular to a main scanning parallel direction is approximately constant along the longitudinal direction of the corrector lens.

  • Patent number: 5647494
Abstract: A tear-off safety closure is described in particular for ensuring authenticity and for additional sealing of a bottle-shaped container containing especially pharmaceuticals which is already closed by a disk-shaped or plug-shaped sealing element. The cap surface and the closed flange-shaped jacket of the closure enclose the sealing element and the rim of the container neck which has an outwardly projecting ridge. The closure has a tear-out part which can be detached to expose the surface of the sealing element, e.g., for piercing with a hypodermic needle. The jacket has retaining devices which are arranged on its inner surface at a distance from its lower edge and which engage under the lower edge of the ridge. The closure is produced from plastic in its entirety and so as to form one piece, in particular from thermoplastically deformable plastic such as polypropylene or polyamide.

  • Patent number: 5645083
Abstract: In a pelvic or peritoneal surgical method, a funnel shaped membrane is inserted in a closed configuration through a laparoscopic trocar sleeve into the abdominal cavity of a patient. The membrane is spread from the closed configuration to an opened configuration upon emergence of the membrane into the abdominal cavity. The opened membrane and an internal organ of the patient are then positioned relative to one another so that the organ is disposed essentially vertically above the opened membrane. Upon proper positioning, the organ is subjected to a laparoscopic surgical operation while the organ is disposed above the opened membrane, whereby tissue particles and fluid escaping the organ during the operation fall into the opened membrane. The membrane and collected tissue particles and fluid are removed from the abdominal cavity upon termination of the operation.
