  • Patent number: 5008793
Abstract: A guidable arm for free-positioning lamps of the type with a stand anchored to a base and having a free end holding a lamp head. The guidable arm being made up of two stems which are separated in a parallel manner and which rotate about their own axis with respect to the fixed base. The stems are interconnected by a flexible intermediate spacer and are equipped at their free ends with joints for holding the lamp head. Each of the stems has two goose-neck portions separated from one another and made up of a flexible tube and a sheath having crosswise slits on two diametrically opposed areas and two uninterrupted lateral strips parallel to the axis of the stem. The goose-neck is thus able to bend in a direction orthogonal to the slits and not laterally toward the uninterrupted strips.

  • Patent number: 5007688
Abstract: A mobile intensive care unit for the reception of devices and instruments, which are arranged in various sections of a frame, is improved so that an ergonomically coordinated arrangement of the devices is possible, allowing for a combined use and control from an operating level for the parameters to be set and controlled, and also allowing for uninhibited access to the various sections. For this purpose the sections, which are inclined away from the vertical plane at several different angles, are superimposed in connected levels; in an upper section, a middle section, and a lower section for the reception and use of the devices.

  • Patent number: 5005700
Abstract: A gas-tight packaging arrangement for a device, such as a respirator containing an oxygen releasing chemical. The arrangement includes a safety device for checking the state of the packaging. The safety device acts on an elastic partial area of an evacuated envelope surrounding the device. The envelope may be made of foil or the like. The state of the packaging is indicated through a viewing window provided on a housing surrounding the envelope. A loss of vacuum is indicated by providing a tensioned non-elastic band surrounding at least part of the circumference of the envelope. The non-elastic band includes a visible mark band part which may be viewed through the viewing window. The visible mark band part includes a breaking point, the breakage of the visible mark band part being visible through the viewing window. To tension the non-elastic band, a strain relief element may be provided bridging the visible mark band part such that the belt may be tensioned without breaking the visible mark band part.

  • Patent number: 5005569
Abstract: An air venting humidifer for breathing equipment which is installed in the duct draft of a ventilation air tube between a ventilation air source and a ventilation air connection piece comprises a multi-layered water-impermeable but steam permeable membrane. The membrane has a separation wall which is surrounded by a water-filled humidification chamber having a flexible outer wall. Pressure can be exerted on this outer wall by air pressure in a surrounding ventilation air chamber containing and conveying the ventilation air. The humidification output of the air becomes independent of the pressure in the interior of the hollow fiber air flow chambers and the humidification of the ventilation air is adjusted to the requirements of the user. For this purpose the outer wall of the humidification chamber is surrounded by an antechamber which can be filled with the ventilation air and which is connected with the ventilation air chamber by means of a throttle.

  • Patent number: 5005504
Abstract: A thread-cutting device for zigzag sewing machines for forming uniformly short thread ends regardless of the top stitch position of the last stitch. The thread cutter 28 is movable in a plane that is parallel to the thread catcher 33 and is connected by a drive unit 45 through 58 having stop sections 54, 55 to the drive of the thread catcher 33 such that the thread catcher can be moved, together with the cutter, into the cutting position located below the center of the stitch hole. While the thread cutter 28 stops in the cutting position, the thread catcher completes the thread separation process. The thread cutter 28 is moved back during the return movement of the thread catcher 33 only after the threads have been cut. The drive unit 45 through 58 for the thread cutter 28 is of positive-locking design, as a result of which even thick threads are cut reliably. The thread cutting device is particularly suitabloe for installation (even subsequent installation) in stitch group zigzag sewing machines.

  • Patent number: 5004930
Abstract: The invention concerns a method of precisely setting a workpiece (3) having a non-circular contour in a predetermined angular position. The workpiece (3) is placed in the path of a mobile laser beam (F) produced by a laser generator (10) and sweeping an area (P) in which the workpiece produces a shaded zone (Z) whose width (L) depends on the orientation of the workpiece. The width (L) is measured by a laser receiver (11) and the workpiece is turned until the measured width reaches a reference value (L1) when the workpiece is in the desired predetermined position. This method is advantageously used for angularly positioning, with a precision of about a 6 minute arc, a roughly-cut drill bit in a grinding machine for sharpening its tip.

  • Patent number: 5005140
Abstract: A method and device for monitoring and measuring underwater physical therapy or exercise employing hydrodynamic elements or aquatic exercise devices. Measurements are taken via pressure ports formed on first and second opposite surfaces of the hydrodynamic device to provide a pressure differential signal. This pressure differential signal may be compared to a calibrated zero signal to form a measurement signal. The measurement signal is then converted to a digital signal for evaluation by a digital computer. The data corresponds to the exercise performed and may be stored and evaluated. The arrangement provides information with regard to the type of exercise performed and the degree of exercise performed.
