Abstract: A device and method for determining and acting upon the pressure in a balloon sleeve which closes a tracheal tube in the trachea of a patient comprises an inflation cannula which is connected to a pump and valve arrangement for inflating the sleeve. A pressure-to-voltage converter is connected to the cannula for sensing an instantaneous static pressure in the cannula. A differentiator is connected to the converter for differentiating the static pressure to produce a signal corresponding to pressure variations in the sleeve. The varying voltage corresponding to the pressure variations is then rectified and integrated to produce a signal that rises and falls with rising and falling frequency of pressure variations in the sleeve. If the rate becomes too high or too low, a signal is generated which is then again integrated to provide for transient unacceptable conditions.
Abstract: In a length measuring device with a measuring transducer system, the curve of two sinusoidal test signals is dependent on the longitudinal movement of the measuring transducer system. An interpolation circuit delivers two high-resolution rectangular pulse sequences F1, F2 corresponding to the interpolated sinusoidal voltages and offset by 90.degree., to an evaluating circuit. To achieve a high-resolution at low speeds of travel and a low-resolution at high speeds, two rectangular pulse sequences S1, S2 or G1, G2, offset by 90.degree. and giving a low-resolution, are additionally derived at the interpolation circuit. A control logic circuit 19 monitors the test voltages for attainment of a certain value of the longitudinal movement per unit time or speed of travel.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for increasing the thermic content and, therefore, the water temperature in inland open water basins which have, therefore, an outlet or drain. The system provides for drawing off and conveying the cold water of the deeper layers of the basin toward the outlet or drain, while concurrently retaining within the basin the warmer water of the upper or superficial layers. The system may be carried out and implemented by means of fixed structures comprising at least one outflow conduit with one terminal within the basin's deepest water layers, through one or more intakes, and with the other terminal exiting into the drain, the structure further comprising one or more barriers positioned in the vicinity of the outlet or drain in order to retain within the basin the superficial layers of warm water.

Abstract: A robotic wrist joint comprises a spherical member which is mounted within a ring shaped housing for rotational movement in any direction. A control pin extends from an outer surface of the spherical member. A first semi-circular yoke is pivotally mounted to the ring shaped housing and carries a first track. A second yoke is provided in a position radially inwardly of the first yoke. The second yoke is also semi-circular and is mounted for rotation on the housing about an axis perpendicular to the rotational axis of the first yoke. The second yoke carries a second track. The control pin extends into both the first and the second track so that the spherical member can be brought into any desired location by selectively pivoting the yokes.

Abstract: A methotrexate derivative having the following general formula is incapable of forming polyglutamate and thus is expected to have reduced cytotoxicity associated with the formation of polyglutamate derivatives in a living cell, ##STR1## wherein n is from 0 to 5.
Abstract: A four-barrelled pistol is disclosed which comprises a hammer having a rotating, click-action head for successively acting on firing pins corresponding to the four barrels. Particularly, a tripping mechanism is disclosed which controls the hammer of the pistol to allow either a single-action or double action operation. The pistol includes a mechanism for blocking and keeping the hammer in a cocked position when the trigger is at rest and for unblocking it when the trigger has been displaced, and mechanism for displacing the hammer into the cocked position and disengaging it immediately thereafter as a result of the displacement of the trigger.
Abstract: In a sewing machine with a microcomputer controlled step motor for the control of the magnitude and direction of the feeding action of a cloth feeder, the microcomputer is connected, via a buffer and a D/A converter, to the non-inverting input of a comparator which controls the turn-on and turn-off as well as the current intensity of each phase winding of the step motor and whose inverting input is connected to a discriminating element disposed in the phase circuit, for the step setting correction and for the torque intensification of the step motor. To adapt the correction possibilities to the step motor parameters, the D/A converter has four input stages whose biggest stage is connected to the corresponding output stage of the buffer via a voltage divider.
Abstract: The specimen (P) carrying the impression (I) is illuminated to create a variation of the impression luminance respect to the neighboring zone, and the image magnification of the impression is then performed by an optical system (OS). The magnified image is scanned with a telecamera (VC) to generate image electrical signals carrying informations indicative of the image luminance. By a technique of image segmentation, a computer (CS) draws from these image signals, position data of a group of image points taken, according to predetermined selection criteria, as belonging to the sides of the impression contour (I). Through the position data of at least some of such points, the position of characteristic points of the impression, for example the impression vertices in the Vickers hardness test, is then extrapolated or interpolated.
