  • Patent number: 4624709
Abstract: A novel substituted nigrosine dye represented by the formula D-R).sub.n wherein D is a nigrosine dye residue, R is C.sub.3 -C.sub.18 alkyl or alkenyl which may be straight or branched, or aralkyl or aralkenyl which may have a C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl substituent on the aryl moiety, the R in each case being the same as or different from the others, and n is a number of 1 to 4. The novel nigrosine dye is prepared by reacting a corresponding unsubstituted nigrosine dye with an alkyl halide, alkenyl halide, aralkyl halide, or aralkenyl halide, or with a mixture thereof, to form the substituted nigrosine dye. The novel dye has a high solubility in and compatability with organic solvents and/or resins and is oleophilic and stable and particularly useful for ink compositions and as a charge control agent for the toners of electrophotographic or electrostatic image developers.

  • Patent number: 4623637
Abstract: In CO-air filters the poisonous carbon monoxide contained in the air to be breathed is brought into reaction with atmospheric oxygen on the surface of a CO catalyst and thus removed. The Pt-catalyst used to date as air filter material offers diminished protection when humidity levels in the air are high. By being subjected to an extra impregnation with vanadium compounds the capacity of the palladium catalyst to catalyze the oxidation of CO under high humidity is increased remarkably. Effectiveness is even increased under dry conditions.

  • Patent number: 4621233
Abstract: A contactless non-destructive technique for measuring at least one surface property of a first semiconductor material surface utilizes an electrically conductive interdigital transducer and a metal plate defined on a piezoelectric material. The metal plate has a window therein and the semiconductor material is positioned with its first surface over the window and facing the exposed piezoelectric material of the window. A radio frequency pulse is applied to the interdigital transducer to generate a surface acoustic wave on the piezoelectric material. This produces a transverse electric field which extends above the surface of the piezoelectric material and propagates across the window. This field acts as a probing field in the semiconductor material at the surface facing the piezoelectric material, and due to acousto-electric interaction a transverse acousto-electric voltage is produced.

  • Patent number: 4620863
Abstract: A radiation coloration resistant glass is disclosed which is used in a radiation environment sufficient to cause coloration in most forms of glass. The coloration resistant glass includes higher proportions by weight of water and has been found to be extremely resistant to color change when exposed to such radiation levels. The coloration resistant glass is free of cerium oxide and has more than about 0.5% by weight water content. Even when exposed to gamma radiation of more than 10.sup.7 rad, the coloration resistant glass does not lose transparency.

  • Patent number: 4620650
Abstract: A carriage is reciprocately movable along the length of a pair of eversion tubes which carry pantyhose legs in an everted condition. The carriage carries two pairs of grippers which are engageable over each pantyhose leg and on side fingers on each tube. The grippers are brought to a partially closed position where they do not touch the fabric while the carriage is slowly moved along the tubes to scan the exterior of the fabric. A detection point is provided on the fabric which is detectable by a probe that operates a mechanism for fully closing the grippers. Further movement of the carriage with the grippers closed causes sliding of the fabric on the tubes. Even with the detection points misaligned on the tubes, the grippers will close at the appropriate instant to concurrently bring both legs of the pantyhose to the ends of the tubes.

  • Patent number: 4620828
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for tilting and turning coke-oven doors for the purpose of maintenance and repair. It comprises a door-receiving support frame with upper guide rollers, which are guided in a guide rig having parallel rail pairs. At the lower end of the support frame a firmly connected drive device engages, which is movable on a raised horizontal rail track. The drive device pulls the support frame from the vertical into the horizontal position and pushes it back into the vertical position. The guide rig includes a vertical part and an inwardly extending part contiguous thereto. The center between the guide rig on the coke side and the guide rig on the machine side is interrupted. The rail pairs end at the bottom in sturdy stops for the guide roller. The invention is thus an accident proof tilting device, with sufficient space for repair purposes being available on the working platform.

  • Patent number: 4620358
Abstract: The feature characterizing the method is that in an operation following the finishing of the track supporting structure, the mounting bodies are machined in a way such as to correct the structural inaccuracies caused by manufacturing tolerances of the prior art steel and concrete construction, to obtain an accurate mutual position of the equipment parts at the location of attachment. For this purpose, preferably, the mounting bodies are provided at the securing locations with bores and countersinks which are accurate in all the coordinates and correspond to the bolts or bores of the equipment parts, to finally mount these parts by means of bolts and spacer bushings. In supporting structures of steel tracks, mounting bodies accessible from both sides are preferably employed.

  • Patent number: 4617924
Abstract: A ventilating system includes a high frequency controlled breathing gas source in HFJV operation, wherein the exhaled gas is removed through an outlet line through which a flush gas is conducted, is improved to permit a determination, under high frequency ventilation, of both the final expiratory CO.sub.2 concentration and the basic pressure building up in the lungs (the lung-internal PEEP). To this end, the control device is in addition connected to a flush gas valve provided upstream of the breathing gas supply device, and designed to intercalate a measuring interval after a sequence of breathing gas pulses, during which interval the breathing gas valve and the flush gas valve are closed. A system of measuring the breathing gas valves is provided in the outlet line and it is actuated during the measuring interval to perform the measuring operation.
