Abstract: A method for data related downlink signaling including selectively tailoring the UE ID to create a UE ID value, which is then added to a data field to create a data mask. This data mask is then further processed as the CRC field and transmitted with the data burst to provide CRC-related functions. An alternative embodiment discloses initializing a CRC generator with UE identification prior to CRC generation. This implicitly includes the UE ID within the CRC without requiring additional overhead signaling.

Abstract: A system for scanning objects having at least two linear array sensors, adapted to detect light input signals, is provided. A lens is optically connected to each of the linear array sensors, and are adapted to receive and transmit an optical image located in a respective lens field of view along a respective lens axis to the respective one of the at least two linear array sensor. A light source which generates an illumination stripe in general linear alignment with the lens axis across a depth of the field of view is provided. A cylindrical lens is positioned between the light source and an object to be scanned. The cylindrical lens adapted to collect, transmit and focus light from the light source to form the illumination stripe. This arrangement provides a wider system field of view with generally more uniform resolution.

Abstract: A method for a base station to optimize radio resource utilization and adjust data rates in a wireless digital communications system. The base station communicates with a plurality of user equipment mobile terminals (UEs) and employs adaptive modulation and coding (AM&C) to achieve improved radio resource utilization and provide optimum data rates for user services. Blocks of downlink (DL) data are received by the base station which requests downlink DL channel quality measurements only from those mobile terminals (UEs) with pending downlink transmissions. The UEs respond to the request by measuring and reporting DL channel quality to the base station, which then allocates resources such that the UEs will make best use of radio resources. The base station notifies the UEs of the physical channel allocation indicating the modulation/coding rate and allocated slots followed by transmission of blocks of downlink data which are transmitted to the UEs.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus are employed for individually monitoring the connectivity status of cables connected at a cable modem termination system (CMTS), where the cables conduct upstream and downstream RF communication signals. The monitoring is self-contained within the CMTS. The monitoring is achieved by producing a reference signal having a frequency outside the frequency range of the RF communication signals. The reference signal is injected onto the RF communication signal. The power level of the reference signal is detected within the CMTS, whereby the power level correlates with an expected cable load impedance. A DC control voltage based on the detected power level of the reference signal is generated, which allows a controller to determine the connectivity statuses of the connected cables.

Abstract: A method and system for adjusting the amplitude and phase characteristics of wireless communication signals generated by an analog radio transmitter, based on transmit power control (TPC) signals received by a base station (BS) and known characteristics of a power amplifier (PA) included in the transmitter. A digital pre-distortion compensation module, having real and imaginary signal paths, receives and processes real and imaginary signal components used to generate the wireless communication signal. The phase and amplitude characteristics of the wireless communication signal are controlled in response to the TPC signals, such that impaired amplitude and phase characteristics of the PA are corrected.

Abstract: A dynamic link adaptation technique employed in a cellular system by a user equipment (UE) having two coded composite transport channels (CCTrCHs) in an uplink time slot begins by estimating transmit power using a transport format combination (TFC) pair for the CCTrCHs. The total estimated transmit power for two CCTrCHs is compared with a given threshold. The use of both TFCs is permitted when the total estimated power is less than the threshold. A power of each TFC is compared with the threshold and the TFC whose estimated power is greater than the threshold is blocked. A medium access control (MAC) is advised that one TFC is blocked, and the MAC notifies a codec associated with the TFC whose estimated power is less than that threshold to reduce the data rate when applicable.

Abstract: A time division duplex using code division multiple access base station receives a plurality of data signals in a time slot. Each data signal experiences a similar channel response. The base station receives a combined signal over the shared spectrum in a time slot. The combined signal comprises the plurality of data signals. The combined signal is sampled at a multiple of a chip rate of the combined signal. The similar channel response is estimated. A channel response matrix or a channel correlation matrix is constructed based on in part the estimated channel response. A spread data vector is determined based on in part a fast fourier transform (FFT) decomposition of a circulant version of the channel response or channel correlation matrix. The spread data vector is despread to recover data from the matrix.
