Publication number: 20130300293Abstract: An active clamp current sink is used to voltage protect a low voltage rated, high power current sink that drives illumination current through a string of serially connected LEDs. When the LEDs are turned off as part of a PWM configuration, the forward voltage on the LEDs falls, and the voltage presented to the low voltage rated, high power current sink rises. The active clamp current sink monitors the voltage across the high power current sink and ensures that an adequate current flows through the LEDs. This minimally adequate current maintains a sufficiently large forward voltage through the LEDs, and therefore a sufficiently small voltage is presented to the high power current sink.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 5, 2011Publication date: November 14, 2013Applicant: ADVANCED ANALOGIC TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventor: Kevin D'Angelo

Publication number: 20130293208Abstract: A multiple chip voltage feedback technique allows multiple strings of LED's and current sinks to be efficiently powered by a DC-to-DC voltage converter within an appliance. A connected series of differential amplifiers or multiplexers are used to monitor the voltages between the connected LED's and the current sinks, progressively determine the lowest voltage, and then feed the lowest voltage back to the voltage converter. The DC-to-DC voltage converter monitors this lowest voltage and adjusts its output in order to ensure that the strings have adequate voltage with which to function, even as the LED's have different forward voltages and the strings are asynchronously enabled and disabled.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 3, 2009Publication date: November 7, 2013Applicant: ADVANCED ANALOGIC TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventors: Kevin Peter D'Angelo, Eddie Lok Chuen Ng

Publication number: 20130292699Abstract: The present invention prevents breakage of a gate insulating film of a MOS device and provides a nitride semiconductor device having improved reliability. An SBD metal electrode provided between a drain electrode and a gate electrode is configured to form a Schottky junction with an AlGaN layer. Further, the SBD metal electrode and a source electrode are connected and electrically short-circuited. Consequently, when an off signal is inputted to the gate electrode, a MOSFET part is turned off and the drain-side voltage of the MOSFET part becomes close to the drain electrode voltage. When the drain electrode voltage increases, the SBD metal electrode voltage becomes lower than the drain-side voltage of the MOSFET part, thus the drain side of the MOSFET part and the drain electrode are electrically disconnected by the SBD metal electrode.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 26, 2011Publication date: November 7, 2013Applicant: ADVANCED POWER DEVICE RESEARCH ASSOCIATIONInventors: Katsunori Ueno, Shusuke Kaya
