Publication number: 20090193312Abstract: Fixed-spacing parity insertion for FEC (Forward Error Correction) codewords. Fixed spacing is employed to intersperse parity bits among information bits when generating a codeword. According to this fixed spacing, a same number of information bits is placed between each of the parity bits within the codeword. If desired, the order of the parity bits may be changed before they are placed into the codeword. Moreover, the order of the information bits may also be modified before they are placed into the codeword. The FEC encoding employed to generate the parity bits from the information bits can be any of a variety of codes include Reed-Solomon (RS) code, LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) code, turbo code, turbo trellis coded modulation (TTCM), or some other code providing FEC capabilities.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 29, 2008Publication date: July 30, 2009Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Tak K. Publication number: 20090191825Abstract: An RF transmitter includes a Cartesian to polar conversion section, a PLL, a DAC module, a mixing module, and a PA module. The Cartesian to polar conversion section converts a Cartesian based symbol stream into a polar based symbol stream. The PLL generates an oscillation when the RF transmitter is in a Cartesian mode or a phase modulated oscillation based on phase modulation information of the polar based symbol stream when the RF transmitter is in a polar mode. The mixing module mixes an analog Cartesian based signal with a local oscillation to produce a Cartesian based up converted signal when the RF transmitter is in the Cartesian mode and mixes an analog amplitude signal with a phase modulated local oscillation to produce a polar based up converted signal when the RF transmitter is in the polar mode.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 30, 2008Publication date: July 30, 2009Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Theodoros Georgantas, Konstantinos D. Publication number: 20090189794Abstract: A block encoder flexibly encodes K codes to produce an encoded data block. The block encoder receives an unformatted block of 10 Gigabit Media Independent Interface (XGMII) data. The unformatted block of data includes data and/or K characters, both of which can be located in any position of the unformatted block. The block encoder inserts data characters into a first set of slots of the encoded data block. The block encoder encodes K characters to produce corresponding encoded K characters. Each encoded K character includes a link field, a position field and a recoded value field. The encoded K characters are inserted into a second set of slots of the encoded data block. A synchronization header is attached to the encoded data block to distinguish control blocks from pure data blocks. The header and encoded data block are subsequently scrambled in preparation for transmission.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 25, 2009Publication date: July 30, 2009Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventor: Howard A. Patent number: 7567638Abstract: A filter settings generation operation includes sampling a communication channel to produce a sampled signal. The sampled signal is spectrally characterized across a frequency band of interest to produce a spectral characterization of the sampled signal. This spectral characterization may not include a signal of interest. The spectral characterization is then modified to produce a modified spectral characterization. Filter settings are then generated based upon the modified spectral characterization. Finally, the communication channel is filtered using the filter settings when the signal of interest is present on the communication channel. In modifying the spectral characterization, pluralities of spectral characteristics of the spectral characterization are independently modified to produce the modified spectral characterization. Modifications to the spectral characterization may be performed in the frequency domain and/or the time domain.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2007Date of Patent: July 28, 2009Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Thomas J.
