  • Patent number: 5927129
Abstract: A process and an extrusion arrangement are suggested for cutting extruded hollow profiles while heated from the extruding process heat into the required lengths by means of a high-energy beam or jet moved along with the extruding operation. The interior of the extruded hollow profile is filled with a light-weight material at least at the cutting points. The light-weight material is advantageously an expansive foam mass, such as an aluminum foam or a plastic foam. The filling of the extruded hollow profile takes place either by coextrusion or by way of an arbor or a hollow-chamber bottom die of the extrusion arrangement.

  • Patent number: 5924411
Abstract: A method operates an improved internal combustion engine by heating the fuel before entry into the cylinder, at least during the cold-start phase of the engine. In order to undertake the heating step in a favorable way, at least areas in the region of an intake valve are irradiated with an electromagnetic radiation of radiation source, and thereby heated without contact. As a result, liquid fuel in the valve region is heated by contact with the areas of the valve region, and condensation of the fuel is at least reduced.

  • Patent number: 5924508
Abstract: A process carries out an automatic braking operation in which, when the return speed of the accelerator pedal exceeds a threshold value and a transfer of the driver's foot from the accelerator pedal to the brake pedal is determined, an automatic braking operation is triggered. During that operation, a brake pressure is generated in the wheel brakes and is terminated when either a defined time has been exceeded since the triggering of the braking operation or when an operation of the brake pedal takes place by the driver. A support of the driver is ensured when operating the brake pedal in critical driving situations and a brake pressure buildup is carried out even before the operation of the brake pedal by the driver. After the automatic braking operation has been triggered, monitoring occurs to determine whether the time derivation of a quantity representing the operation of the brake pedal exceeds a threshold rise value.

  • Patent number: 5924333
Abstract: A cover plate for the opening of a shift assembly covering with a gate in this plate for receiving a selector lever of an automatic transmission of a motor vehicle, the selector lever to be moved in the plate on a shift assembly. The cover plate must always be closed with separate mounting of the plate and the covering despite necessary compensating dimensional tolerances, that in arrangements of these two parts within the entire tolerance range, no visually disturbing impression is created. A cover plate permanently connected with the shift assembly covers the edge area of the opening of the covering with play over a covering area that takes into account the dimensional tolerances between the installation positions of the covering and the shift assembly.

  • Patent number: 5921076
Abstract: A process and apparatus for reducing the nitrogen oxide content in oxygen-containing emissions is provided, particularly for internal-combustion engines, particularly of diesel engines and directly injecting Otto engines for motor vehicles. The nitrogen oxides contained in the exhaust gas are reduced by a suitable reducing agent, such as hydrogen or hydrocarbons, on a DENOX catalyst. For achieving an improved conversion rate for the nitrogen oxides, a combination of hydrogen and hydrocarbons are used as reducing agents. In different operating ranges of the internal-combustion engine only hydrogen, only hydrocarbons, or hydrogen and hydrocarbons are added. Preferably, for this purpose, the quantity of supplied hydrogen or hydrocarbons is reduced or increased with an increasing engine load and/or catalyst temperature and/or rotational engine speed.

The device contains a hollow cylindrical ring carrier element provided with a central passage fastened on an underside of the docking element. A locking ring provided with radially projecting bayonet arms is held against torsion but axially moveable on the ring carrier element. A compression spring is braced between the underside of the locking ring on the one hand and a connection of the ring carrier element. The device can be installed on the edge of the filling tube, which is provided with recesses for passage of bayonet arms of the locking ring at an inlet side to form a bayonet lock.

  • Patent number: 5921613
Abstract: An arrangement guides a swing-out sliding door of a vehicle body without a center guide rail which is visibly disposed on the outside on the vehicle body side wall. One linearly constructed guide rail respectively is fixed within the door opening on its upper and lower edge on the vehicle body side. A roller carriage to which the sliding door is linked by way of a control arm parallelogram travels in each guide rail. One closing roller respectively guided in each guide rail travels at the end of the door closing sliding movement into a circular closing groove branching off the guide rail in the direction of the sliding door. The closing roller is fixed to one of the control arms of the control arm parallelogram. The closing groove is constructed such that its curvature center in the door closing position of the roller carriage coincides with the roller-carriage-side hinge axis of the control arm carrying the closing rollers.

  • Patent number: 5922465
Abstract: The invention relates to platelet-shaped interference pigments for effect paints for painting objects of daily use, especially vehicle bodies, with the interference pigments including liquid crystal polymers (LCP) with main and/or side groups--mesogens--which are arranged at least approximately chirally-nematically or the like. In order to be able to paint different colored backgrounds in a covering fashion using the transparent interference pigments, the interference pigments are built up in several layers and also have at least one and preferably two interfering layer(s) of liquid crystal polymers and even of a single, preferably centrally located, light-absorbent layer, with the light-absorbent layer absorbing at least a portion of the visible light spectrum.
