  • Patent number: 6135498
Abstract: A MacPherson strut tower made in one piece for a motor vehicle, especially an automobile, is permanently connected with at least one adjoining side member of the body structure. The MacPherson strut tower, formed by a hollow body produced by the internal high-pressure shaping method, results in a significant increase in torsional stiffness of the body structure since the two side members and the MacPherson strut tower are assembled to form a three-dimensional supporting structure with continuous closed hollow member sections.

  • Patent number: 6135082
Abstract: A cylinder head having a device for returning lubricating oil from the interior is provided with two separate collectors which each extend in the longitudinal direction of the cylinder head. One of the collectors is connected with the interior of the cylinder head in the forward or rearward area of the cylinder head. The other of the collectors is connected with the interior only in the opposite rearward or forward area of the cylinder head. As a result, it is ensured that, in each case, at least one of the two collectors in the area of their connection point into the interior, also in the event of strong decelerations/accelerations, is always below the adjusting oil level and thus a disposal of oil from the cylinder head is ensured under all operating conditions.

  • Patent number: 6137114
Abstract: An irradiation apparatus has at least one exchangeable radiation source that may be moved by means of a transport cable between at least one rest position and at least one irradiation position and a long-distance transport container for radiation sources to be exchanged. In order to reduce the danger of control errors, the rest position is located inside the long-distance transport container and the transport container forms or may form an integral part of the irradiation apparatus. For that purpose, interface elements are provided on the transport container and other parts of the irradiation apparatus. By winding and unwinding the transport cable on and from a feeding drum with a cable-receiving groove at least partially covered by a pressing strip, particularly thin transport cables may be used, so that the width of the pressing strip substantially corresponds to the width of the cable-receiving groove.

  • Patent number: 6134882
Abstract: A method for operating an NOx trap for an internal combustion engine includes measuring parameters that influence the delay between the metering of a regenerating agent and its becoming effective in regenerating the NOx trap. Such parameters include the fuel film on an intake wall and the quantity of oxygen bonded in the catalytic converters upstream of the NOx trap. Measuring these parameters helps determine the quantity of regenerating agent or the number of working cycles required for regeneration of the NOx trap.

  • Patent number: 6131581
Abstract: An improved implantable thermoelectric energy converter for converting thermal energy generated by an implant wearer into electrical power for supplying electric power to an at least partially implanted active device, the implantable thermoelectric energy converter including a hot pole, a cold pole, and a plurality of individual modules electrically coupled to one another disposed between the hot pole and the cold pole. In particular, the hot pole thermally couples one end of the plurality of individual modules to an implantation site having a temperature substantially that of a core body temperature and the cold pole thermally couples another end of the plurality of individual modules to an implantation site closer to an outer skin surface of the implant wearer. In another embodiment, the implantable thermoelectric energy converter may also include an implantable energy storage for collecting and temporarily storing the electric power generated.

  • Patent number: 6131308
Abstract: An apparatus for levitational guidance of a continuous web of material for the purpose of its heat-treatment is configured of individual zones. The form ducting of the zones has the shape of an U in the vertical longitudinal center section above and below the web in each case, the legs of the U being located parallel to the transport direction of the web. The legs adjacent to the web are equipped on the side facing the web with levitation nozzle ribs or nozzle areas. In the legs facing away from the web, a radial fan is incorporated in each U, the delivery direction of which is directed towards the turn joining the two U legs. Heating means are arranged to advantage in the heating zones in the region between the two legs of the U. Coolers may be incorporated to advantage in the region of the turn joining the two U legs.

  • Patent number: 6129063
Abstract: A device for changing the rotational position of a shaft relative to a drive wheel has an adjusting device with two pressure chambers that act against one another. The chambers are pressurized by a pressure medium pump. The adjusting device includes an inner part with ribs that divides the chambers formed by the ribs of a compartmented wheel into corresponding pressure chambers. A plurality of depressions extending axially are machined into the circumferential surfaces of the compartmented wheel that faces the ribs of the inner part, which depressions serve to collect dirt particles carried by the pressure medium into the pressure chambers.

  • Patent number: 6127793
Abstract: A method for detecting optimal controller parameters for a digital speed control is proposed, wherein an rpm control circuit is charged with different test signals, and the resulting rpm progression is determined. This rpm progression is subsequently evaluated with respect to triggering time and transient response for different controller parameters, and thereafter the most advantageous controller parameters are set in the controller of the control circuit.

  • Patent number: 6118804
Abstract: A laser amplification system with a lasant solid-state material is pumped by pumped light sources and in the case of which one or several pumped beams are guided by mirrors or other optical aids such that each individual pumped beam is focussed several times on different points of the solid-state material, the latter being present in the form of a cohesive or separate solid body which is designed such that the pumped beam is absorbed only in the focal regions, whereby the latter are optically pumped, and in that the laser beam is deflected and guided such that it irradiates all these focal points and is amplified in this manner. This provides a laser amplification system in which the system characteristics are optimized simultaneously, which, in addition, permits a compact construction and is designed such that it is suitable for mass production at reasonable cost.
