  • Patent number: 6170904
Abstract: A motor vehicle is provided with a rear-mounted air guide device having a rear spoiler provided on a hood at the rear and a connected rear airfoil. The rear airfoil is used only when needed to produce the necessary downforce so that no damage occurs to the air guide device when passing through an automatic car wash. For that purpose, the rear airfoil is movable by a drive device from a retracted resting position into an extended operating position and vice versa. The rear airfoil in the resting position is largely lowered into a groove-shaped receptacle provided on the top of the rear spoiler.

  • Patent number: 6172754
Abstract: The invention relates to a laser-assisted measuring system for three-dimensional objects and complex surfaces. In accordance with the invention, three-dimensional objects are preferably interior areas of buildings or geological hollows with complex surfaces. The invention makes a considerable contribution to the rationalization and improvement of precision in measuring operations of this kind. In the known pulse operation time method, the distance is measured by a laser pulse from the transmitter to the measuring point and back. A measurement fan is generated on emission of laser pulses. In accordance with the invention, the measurement fan (11) must be turned 360° step by step at a constant speed, in order to cover a three-dimensional area. In a wall, up to 200,000 measuring points can be obtained. An appropriate evaluation of the measurement data takes place so that a 3D wire model can be constructed.

  • Patent number: 6168228
Abstract: A passenger compartment for a passenger car has one B-column on each vehicle body side which leads into a side member situated below the B-column for increasing the transverse stiffness of the passenger compartment in the event of side impact loads. A transversely stiffening tube construction is composed of two laterally exterior upright reinforcing tubes and a tube-shaped stiffening element which extends over the width of the vehicle body. In order to achieve a more favorable introduction of force in the event of a side impact load, each upright reinforcing tube is linked to an adjoining connection plate with a lower edge area which is supported on the exterior side of the side member. An inwardly projecting supporting tube leads away from each reinforcing tube above the elevation of the side member. This supporting tube is rigidly connected in the area of the passenger compartment with one of the outer ends of the transversely extending, tube-shaped stiffening element.

  • Patent number: 6158786
Abstract: A latch for a top of an automobile has a housing mounted on the top with a movable latching hook cooperating with a link mounted on the windshield frame. The latching hook is displaceable by an actuating device from a closed position into an open position. To produce a latch which forms a compact module, takes up little space in the transverse vehicle direction, and whose latching hook is movable by a motor, the motorized actuating device for the latching hook has a drive motor aligned approximately parallel to the lengthwise direction of the latching hook. The motor is in an operating relationship through a transverse transmission element and a downstream transmission with a drive lever to move the latching hook.

  • Patent number: 6159741
Abstract: A process and device are disclosed for measuring blood platelet aggregation or blood coagulation. The blood flows through an opening in a part and the occlusion of the opening is measured. The pressure fall (.DELTA.P) formed during occlusion of the opening is measured at predetermined time intervals (dt) and the volume flow (I) is changed to correspond to a predetermined function which simulates the flow resistance (R.sub.v) of a capillary upstream of the opening. Alternatively, the pressure (.DELTA.P) is kept constant during the predetermined time intervals (dt) and afterwards, when the volume flow (I) has diminished by a certain value, the pressure is adjusted until it corresponds to the function.

  • Patent number: 6148581
Abstract: A frame construction includes at least one nodal connection element and several tube-shaped frame elements connected thereto. The frame elements and the nodal connection elements are manufactured by hydraulic internal high pressure forming and are joined via plug-type connections. Each nodal connection element has at least two connections for adjoining frame elements. The nodal connection element consists of at least two internal-high-pressure-formed tube-shaped hollow bodies in a nested configuration. The hollow bodies are made of different materials, and have different cuts in the area of the connections--viewed in the longitudinal direction of the respective connection, allowing connection with frame elements made of corresponding different materials. In the area of each connection, one of the two hollow bodies, in addition to being connected in a plug-type connection with the adjoining frame elements made of the same material, is connected by an additional connection.

  • Patent number: 6142856
Abstract: The sharpening device for dental instruments comprises a chuck head holder having an arcuate member to one end of which the chuck head with the chuck is radially attached while the arcuate member is guided in a base of the device. The grinding head with the grinding wheel comprises a grinding head bearing which is rotatable around the mid-perpendicular of the base and includes a pivot which extends in parallel to the surface of the base and on which the grinding head turns, the latter being under the action of a tension spring in such a manner that the grinding wheel surface, which is disposed at an angle with respect to the mid-perpendicular, is pressed against the surface to be treated of the instrument. Moreover, the chucking assembly allows an essentially improved chucking of the instrument due to a thrust bolt which is actuated by an eccentric member and presses the shank of the instrument against the chuck opening. The head of the thrust bolt may be movable in order to adapt to the shape of the shank.
