Abstract: An ink for ink jet printers which comprises an aqueous carrier medium, pigment dispersion or dye and an amide diol or ester diol cosolvent penetrant such as hydroxypivalyl hydroxypivalate. The cosolvent penetrant has a solubility in water of at least 4.5 parts in 100 parts of water at 25.degree. C.The pigment dispersion consists of pigment particles and a dispersant, preferably a polymeric dispersant, having a hydrophilic segment and a segment that links to the pigment. These inks exhibit rapid drying, have excellent decap performance, are storage stable and give images having good print quality.
Abstract: A hand truck for storing and transporting boxes or bins is constructed with a single vertical member having a handle at one end and an axle bearing two wheels on the distal end. Supports and fasteners are affixed along the vertical member in a spacing determined by the vertical dimension of the bins to be used. Fasteners are formed from right angle or U-shaped materials which form a channel into which an edge of the bin may be placed to secure the bin to the hand truck. Supports hold the bins in proximity to the fasteners until bin removal is desired. Attaching the bins to the hand truck is achieved by tipping the bin so that an edge of the bin may be placed in the fastener channel.
Abstract: Improved non-stick coating systems can be applied on a primer with a topcoat containing two types of perfluorocarbon resin, one with a melt viscosity above about 10.sup.10 poises, the other with a melt viscosity in the range of 10.sup.3 to 10.sup.8 poises.
Abstract: The system uses a monochromatic radiation source (1) and an acousto-optic modulator (2), which is driven by a periodically variable frequency. The modulator emits a first beam having the same wavelength as the source and a second beam, whose wavelength and emission direction vary with the modulating frequency. After the second beam has been collimated, radiations of both beams are sent towards the component under test and an electrical signal with varying frequency is generated representative of the beat between such radiations at the output from the component. A spectral analysis of the beat signal is carried out, and the refractive index value is derived from the position taken by the various frequencies of the beat signal on a detection plane.

Abstract: This invention is a gas separation membrane containing two polymer layers, a relatively thick layer, and an ultrathin layer, 10 to about 200 A thick. The ultrathin layer polymer is more selective than the polymer used in the thick layer. Also provided is a process for making such membranes.
Abstract: Thioxotropic Fuller's earth clay minerals which are structurally double silica chains linked together through oxygen to form double-ribbed sheets held by aluminum and/or magnesium in octahedral coordination in an amphibole chain are vacuum dried and admixed with a stabilizing fluid, e.g., silicone fluid, to result in new, low moisture content thixotropic agents. The mineral products thus produced are superior thixotropes when compounded in plastics such as plastisols, adhesive sealants, coatings and other organic binder systems which are heat set or heat cured or moisture cured, and compliance coatings. The methods involve reducing the moisture content of Fuller's earth clay, e.g., attapulgite, by (1) heating it under vacuum at an elevated temperature, preferably between 100.degree. C. and 300.degree. C., or (2) heating it at an elevated temperature, preferably between 100.degree. C. and 350.degree. C.
Abstract: Microscopic strips of high permeability magnetic conductor are arrayed in a proximate relation to an electrical conductor to form paths for magnetic circuits about the electrical conductor. The strips may take various forms including filaments, such as one hundred micron microwire, and deposited submicron-sized layers of amorphorous magnetic material. The magnetic circuits may be closed with the strips forming a plurality of bands around the electrical conductor, and the magnetic circuits may be open, such as with the strips arrayed linearly adjacent to the electrical conductor. The magnetic circuits have numerous applications, including a variety of antennas, inductive wires, antenna ground planes, inductive surfaces, magnetic sensors, and direction finding arrays.
Abstract: An elevated temperature induced reduction of insulation resistance of a metal-polyethylene terephthalate film capacitor is eliminated by controlled cooling through a glass transition temperature of the polyethylene terephthalate film or by elevated temperature storing below the glass transition temperature.
Abstract: A torsional suspension unit is provided which includes at least one, and preferably a plurality of, torsion rod(s) for absorbing and distributing forces and a bearing block associated with said torsion rod(s) for maintaining one end of said torsion rod(s) in a substantially fixed position. The torsional suspension unit of the present invention also includes a rotatable torque hub member for maintaining a second end of said torsion rod(s), for imparting rotational or torsional forces to said torsion rod(s) and limiting the rotation of said torsion rod(s). The suspension unit of the present invention also preferably includes torsion rod(s) which are non-linear in configuration for improved strength and for improved resistance of the torsion rod to torsional rotation.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for distributively interconnecting a plurality of land mobile trunked transmission communication systems into a wide area network includes a plurality of distributive radio network terminal (RNT) switch means and a unique signaling protocol and a switching protocol especially adapted for communication of control signals in the subaudio band for interconnecting the trunked transmission communications systems into a wide area network that provides an expanded feature set of radio communications capabilities.

Abstract: The Fourier transform optical processing system of the present invention includes generating an electrical signal in response to a first image and modulating a beam of coherent light with means that is responsive to the electrical signal. A Fourier transform image of the modulated coherent light beam is formed, an then detected. The detector provides a second electrical signal representative of the Fourier transformed image. Other aspects of the invention include comparing the second electrical signal to a reference electrical signal for producing an output signal representing any differences; optically preprocessing the image; detecting the Fourier transform image and generating signals representative of its Fourier transform characteristics; and modulating a coherent light beam using a liquid crystal or other spatial light modulating device.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for fabricating integral three-dimensional objects from successive layers of deformable and photoformable compositions by exposing the layers of the composition through a tensioned, elastomeric transparent film, in a way that the weak bonds between the film and each newly solidified layer are broken by changing the tension on the film, thus allowing a new layer of deformable composition to be introduced between the film and the solidified layer.
Abstract: A portable grinder (10) has a motor-driven drive shaft (15) and a quick-acting chucking device for a grinding tool (43), which comprises a spindle (20), coaxial with the drive shaft (15), which is braced against the drive shaft (15) by a spring (24) in the axial direction and can be displaced in the axial direction relative to the drive shaft (15) by means of a clamping lever (32). One external free end of the spindle (20) retains the grinding tool (43), which in a released position--with the free end of the spindle (20) extended and the spring (24) tensioned--can be removed from the free end, and in a tightened position--with the free end of the spindle (20) retracted and the spring (24) partly relaxed--is non-rotatably joined to the drive shaft. The free end is configured as a bayonet end (40) which extends though the grinding tool (43). An attachment collet (41) with a bayonet opening can be placed from outside onto the bayonet end (40).
Abstract: A process for removing inorganic gels and dispersed, particulate incompressible solids from a highly acid aqueous slurry (e.g., pH of -2 to +3) and a soluble metallic chloride content (e.g., 3 to 50%) involving rapidly and intimately contacting the slurry with a cationic Mannich polyacrylamide of molecular 4-15 million until a desired amount of gel and particulate solids are flocculated. By slowly and gently mixing a floc of the desired size is formed which is then removed. The process is especially suited for treating slurries produced by water quenching the hot metal chlorides and blowover ore and coke from a TiO.sub.2 chlorinator after TiCl.sub.4 has been removed.
