Abstract: A surgical tool includes a drive housing, a closure tube that extends from the drive housing, an end effector arranged at an end of the closure tube and having opposing jaws, and a closure yoke mounted to the closure tube and having a projection extending therefrom. A gearing assembly includes one or more spur gears attached to a corresponding one or more drive shafts such that rotation of the one or more drive shafts correspondingly rotates the one or more spur gears, and a closure cam gear positioned to intermesh with the one or more spur gears and defining a profile that receives the projection. Rotating the one or more spur gears causes the closure cam gear to rotate, which causes the projection to traverse the profile, and the projection traversing the profile urges the closure yoke and the closure tube to linearly displace and thereby actuate the jaws.

  • Publication number: 20210063588
Abstract: An imaging device may include single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs). Positioning SPADs close together in an imaging device (such as a silicon photomultiplier) may have benefits such as improved sensitivity. However, as the SPADs get closer together, the SPADS may become susceptible to crosstalk. Crosstalk is typically undesirable due to reduced dynamic range and reduced signal accuracy. To reduce crosstalk, a capacitor or other component may be coupled between adjacent SPADs. When an avalanche occurs on a given SPAD, the bias voltage may drop below the breakdown voltage. The capacitor may cause a corresponding voltage drop on a neighboring SPAD. The voltage drop on the neighboring SPAD reduces the over-bias of that SPAD, reducing the sensitivity of the SPAD and therefore mitigating the chance of crosstalk occurring.

Abstract: A method for estimating a magnet temperature of a rotor magnet within a rotary electric machine includes, while a rotor of the electric machine is stationary, injecting a high-frequency voltage component onto a control voltage of the electric machine, via a controller, to generate an adjusted voltage command, and extracting a high-frequency component of a resulting current as an extracted high-frequency component. The method also includes calculating an inductance value of the electric machine using the extracted high-frequency component of the resulting current. The magnet temperature is estimated using the calculated inductance value and an angular position of the rotor. The method includes controlling an operation of the electric machine using the estimated magnet temperature. An electric powertrain uses the electric machine and controller noted above.

  • Publication number: 20210067239
Abstract: Wireless communication is provided over an extended distance using a line or a series of drones traveling along a transmission path between a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter sends a data signal to a first drone that is within range of the transmitter. The first drone sends the data signal to an adjacent drone in the line of drones which retransmits the data signal to the next drone in line. The data signal is transmitted between drones until it reaches a final drone within range of the receiver. The final drone transmits the data signal to the receiver. As the drones travel along the transmission path, new drones are launched from a location within range of the transmitter to replace drones that land after transmitting a data signal to the receiver.
