  • Patent number: 5479805
Abstract: A two-high cross rolling mill with driven rolls situated one above the other and a pair of rotatably driven guide disks which are supported in rockers which are swivelable around vertical axles and can be adjusted transversely to the swivel axis of the rockers. To optimize the adjusting time and adjusting accuracy, each of the two bearing members of each guide disk is arranged in a vertically adjustable chock so as to be swivelable around a horizontal axis extending transversely to the rolling direction. Each chock is fastened in turn in a clampable manner in a bearing slide which is adjustable in the direction of these swivel axes in horizontal planes and arranged in each instance in fitted guides which are guided in the rockers so as to be displaceable parallel to the rolling direction independently from one another.

  • Patent number: 5479809
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for adjusting the upper edge of a lower work roll of a four high rolling stand to the rolling line. In particular, the apparatus has a horizontally displacable lower wedge element having a stepped sloped upper surface and a vertically displacable upper wedge element positioned underneath the chock of the lower back-up roll. This upper wedge element has a stepped sloped lower surface corresponding to and resting on the stepped sloped upper surface of said lower wedge element. A lift device is used for lifting the upper wedge element and the chock along the vertical axis so that the lower wedge element can be horizontally positioned. Thereafter, the upper wedge element and the chock are lowered onto the lower wedge element, thereby adjusting the upper edge of the lower roll in the roll stand to the roll line.

  • Patent number: 5479434
Abstract: A double furnace installation having two arc furnaces connected via a line, a power supply, a device for charging material, and an arrangement for extraction and purification of gas is operated by connecting a first one of the furnaces with the power supply for melting a charge located therein, isolating a second one of the furnaces from the power supply, charging the second furnace with charging material, and closing the second furnace with a cover. Flue gas generated during a melting phase of the first furnace is sucked therefrom and introduced into the second furnace through a first interior bay region of the second furnace. The flue gas entering the second furnace in this manner passes substantially horizontally through the charging material in the second furnace because it is sucked therefrom through a second interior bay region disposed diametrically opposite the first interior bay region.

  • Patent number: 5474415
Abstract: An apparatus for the emptying of containers is disposed in the course of a conveyor way for containers loaded with piece goods, in particular with luggage pieces. A branch conveyor for receiving discharged piece goods is following to the emptying apparatus. The emptying apparatus is furnished with support rollers and guide elements for the containers and a tipping device with a swivel drive for the swiveling of the containers perpendicular to the transport advance direction (F) of the conveyor way in direction toward the branch conveyor. In order to obtain an emptying of the container during the transport motion based on a constructively simple structure of the apparatus, the container (3) is essentially constructed to comprise a part (4), formed by a shell-shaped floor (8) for receiving the piece goods (5) and a lower part (6).

  • Patent number: 5473943
Abstract: The invention is directed to a u/s test device for nondestructive testing of a workpiece moving relative thereto by the pulse echo method, having a fluid coupling between the ultrasonic oscillator and the surface of the work material. At least two test heads are provided whose sound beam axes intersect at a point in the region of the workpiece and a travel path in the form of a chamber is provided for guiding the fluid medium. To reduce susceptibility to interference and to achieve high test performance, a separately guided travel path extending along a determined length of the chamber and forming a duct (12-20) is associated with each test head (1-9), the axes of the travel path being aligned with the respective sound beam axis.

  • Patent number: 5469928
Abstract: Steering is actively assisted in a turning motor vehicle including a hybrid drive having both an internal combustion engine and a generator unit. The inner and outer wheels are each associated with an individual drive which is controlled in accordance with the steering angle of the steered wheels. Specifically, the torque differential is adjusted such that the percentage actual wheel differentials approach the percentage reference wheel speed differentials. A substantial reduction in the force which must be applied via the steering system to adjust the steering wheels, as compared to an absence of torque differential, is achieved because the outer wheel is driven at a higher output than the inner wheel when making a turn.

  • Patent number: 5467809
Abstract: A liquid-cooled plate mold with adjustable width for the continuous casting of billets from steel in the form of slabs, particularly for a slab thickness of less than 100 mm. The shape-imparting broad side plates (1) and narrow side plates (2) of the ingot mold are constructed in the direction of their transverse extension so as to increase in cross section for the billet, while the narrow side plates (2) extend substantially parallel to one another along the height of the ingot mold. Further, the broad side plates (1) are constructed so as to be concave at least in a region (3) of smallest slab width in such a way that, in cross section, the apex height (13) of the ingot mold wall forming a curve has a determined height relative to a rectangle inserted in the drawing. The shape of the billet side plates at the billet outlet end (5) corresponds to the billet format to be produced.

  • Patent number: 5461861
Abstract: A process for compressing a gaseous medium, particularly air, in which sucked in gas of a lower initial pressure, particularly atmospheric pressure, is compressed to a predetermined final pressure by means of a compressor driven by the useful side of a thermal engine. The sucked in gas is pre-compressed before entering the compressor and/or the compressed gas is re-compressed after exiting the compressor by a turbocharger. The drive side of the turbocharger is acted upon by the energy of the exhaust gas flow of the thermal engine. In order to increase the overall efficiency of transportable compressor installations in particular, a liquid of a closed or open liquid/steam circulation system, which liquid is under pressure, is evaporated and superheated by the exhaust gas flow of the thermal engine and the superheated steam is fed to the drive side of the turbocharger.

  • Patent number: 5457959
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for operating a pressure-operated positioning tool or gripping and clamping tool and a tool itself, in which the position of at least one adjusting member is determined and the valve-actuated supply of pressure medium to the adjusting member is regulated depending on position. To take into account the elasticity of the contact elements in the target position and to exert influence after the target position has been reached in a process and in a tool of the generic type, the regulating of the valve-actuated supply of pressure medium is not only effected in a position-dependent manner, but also takes into account the pressure of the pressure medium.
