Abstract: A method and apparatus for electronic archiving of a data stream that has both text and graphics includes separating form data that stays the same from document to document from variable data that varies from document to document. The form data is treated differently in the archiving process from the variable data. For example, only one copy of the form data need be stored, while the smaller data files of the variable data occupy less storage space. Index data is generated to facilitate overlay of the form data and variable data to permit recreation of the original documents. The data is converted into a printer-specific data format to facilitate separation into the different data types.
Abstract: With a control device to optimize charge image generation in an electrophotographic process, a light-sensitive and temperature-sensitive photoconductor layer is exposed pixel-by-pixel with a temperature-sensitive light source. The photoconductor layer becomes more sensitive with rising temperature, such that given a predetermined light quantity it discharges deeper. With rising temperature, given the same actuating power, the light source emits a lesser luminous power. The luminous power of the light source and the discharge depth of the photoconductor layer are temperature-dependent via adjustment of the current and/or the luminous duration that flows through the light source and/or the luminous duration. During the measurement of the discharge depth, a temperature measured in the course of the measurement event is used as a reference value for the temperature compensation of the light source.
Abstract: In a device and method for electrographic printing or copying, a latent image carrier is provided having a potential pattern corresponding to an image pattern. An applicator pattern is provided that carries a liquid layer of ink spaced from a surface of the latent image carrier by an air gap. A surface of the applicator element is provided with a structure with which detachment of droplets from the liquid layer is facilitated, the structure having a plurality of first areas having an increased electrical conductivity, a plurality of second areas that differ from a remaining surface based on a portion of surface energy, and a plurality of third areas formed as microscopic elevations. A force field is applied in the air gap to act on the liquid layer. By overcoming the air gap, droplets are transferred from the liquid layer on the surface of the latent image carrier by overcoming the air gap for inking a latent image to create an inked image.

Abstract: In a method and device to control a print process in a printer or copier, with a character generator generating a latent print image and a latent toner marking on an image carrier. An exposure energy per unit area for the generation of the latent toner marking is decreased in comparison to an energy per unit area for generation of the latent print image. The latent print image and the latent toner marking are developed with toner in the developer station. An optical reflection sensor determines color density of the developed toner marking. Toner concentration is adjusted in a developer station dependent on a signal of the reflection sensor.

Abstract: A method or system is provided for producing a charge image on an intermediate carrier of an electrophotographic printer or copier. A character generator having a plurality of light sources arranged in at least one row in groups is provided. A separate functional unit is provided for each light source group for control of the light sources. The functional unit is connected with a central control unit, the functional unit comprising an address system via which it can be activated, and a control unit. The light sources of each group are controlled by said control unit assigned to the functional unit. The at least one row of light sources is imaged onto the intermediate carrier as an exposure line, the intermediate carrier being displaced substantially transverse to the exposure line relative to the character generator. A temporal beginning of illumination phases of groups of light sources is selected such that deviations of the exposure line from a target line is reduced.

The display field is substantially shown in a second color in a potentially disturbed second operating state with a potential malfunction of a first group. The display field is substantially shown in a third color given a disturbed third operating state with a malfunction of a second group. Also a method or system is provided for automatic generation of messages in an electrophotographic printer or copier wherein a text message that contains at least an error code is automatically generated with aid of a data processing system after occurrence of a preset error state. The message is sent to a preset recipient.

Abstract: In a method and device to separate toner material and air from a toner material-air mixture, and first operating phase at toner material-air mixture is supplied to a filter so that air flows through the filter in a first direction. In a second operating phase, the flow of air through the filter in a first direction is interrupted such that toner material deposited on the filter is loosened. In a second operating phase, air flows through the filter in a direction approximately opposite to the first direction. Also in a method device for dosing toner material in an electrophotographic printer or copier, toner material is introduced into at least one bucket chamber rotatably arranged in an opening at a bottom of a toner reservoir. The bucket chamber has a paddle wheel which seals the opening of the toner reservoir. As the paddlewheel rotates, toner material in the bucket chamber is conveyed into a region. The toner material conveyed from the paddlewheel is further conveyed with a screw conveyor.

Abstract: In a method and system for printing, individual pages of a print medium are transported. With a printing unit, a side of the respective individual page facing it is printed and the applied toner image is fixed. With an inverter, the individual pages with the fixed toner image are inverted after the first printing event and resupplied to the printing unit for printing on an other side. The printing unit has first and second printing groups respectively comprising first and second exposure units, first and second charge corona devices, and first and second developer stations. Individual pages are supplied in succession to both of the first and second printing groups, and the printing groups respectively print two varicolored print images on the same side of the same individual page.

Preprocessing and post processing devices are also provided and are monitored by the print server. Flexible configuring of the printing system is provided.
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for processing graphic data, specifically in a printer, wherein the source image to be processed contains source image elements arranged in a matrix, to each of which source image data is allocated. The target image obtained during processing contains target image elements arranged in a matrix, to each of which target image data is allocated. The source image is subdivided into partial source images arranged in a matrix. The target image data of a corresponding partial target image is determined for each partial source image on the basis of the source image data. Resolution is changed since the number of source image data of each partial source image differs from the number of target image data of each partial target image.
Abstract: In a method and system for transmitting print data in blocks from a transmission unit to a reception unit via a data line by means of channel command words (CCWs), a channel initialization command (unit) is transmitted from the reception unit to the transmission unit for starting the data transmission of a first data block and the data block is transmitted from the transmission unit to the reception unit. The reception unit forwards the received data blocks to a check unit for checking the data integrity (parsing) and promptly sends a transmission confirmation message (Sim Term) to the transmission unit before or during the checking process (parsing), so that a second data block can be transmitted from the transmission unit into an intermediate memory of the reception unit during the checking process (parsing) of the first data block.
Abstract: In a multifunctional printing method and printing system, printed material is checked, verified and tracked. For that purpose different test equipments are located in-line with a printing line. Magnetic information being printed by a printing station onto the recording carrier using magnetic ink character readable toner may be in-line tested by a magnetic test equipment, which reads information from the magnetic recording zone on the carrier. Optical information may be tested by an in-line mounted optical test equipment, respectively. Further in-line test equipment is proposed such as a leaser bar code scanner and an address reader. The printing line may have additional devices such as print preprocessing unwinders or print postprocessing stackers, folders or cutters.
