  • Patent number: 8609413
Abstract: A method of preparing neural precursor cells by exposing pluripotent stem cells or neural stem cells to a differentiation agent. The agent is a pyridine analog, which in preferred embodiments is a phenylethynyl-substituted or phenylazo-substituted pyridine. In other embodiments, a method of enhancing neural precursor cell survival is provided in which the survival is enhanced by exposure to the pyridine analog. In further embodiments, a method of preparing neuronal cells is provided in which pluripotent or neural stem cells exposed to the pyridine analog are then incubated without the pyridine analog, resulting in differentiation into neurons, astrocytes and oligodendrocytes. These methods may be used in toxicological screens, e.g., to evaluate the neurotoxicity of a test compound.

Abstract: A system and method for calculating a quantitative metric of adipose tissue using a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system are provided. The MRI system is used to acquire k-space data by sampling echo signals that are formed at a plurality of different echo times. From the acquired k-space data, a fat-concentration map, such as a fat-fraction map is produced. A maximum fat-concentration value is estimated from the fat-concentration map, and is used to threshold the fat-concentration map to produce an adipose mask. • Patent number: 8611249
Abstract: Data transmission and reception is provided by configuring control channels in a wireless communication system using a plurality of carriers. User equipment (UE) may monitor physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) candidates within common search spaces (CSSs) and User Equipment-specific search spaces (USSs). If the UE is configured with cross-carrier scheduling, when two PDCCH candidates originating from a CSS and a USS, respectively, have cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by the same Radio Network Temporary Identifier (RNTI) and have a common payload size and the same first control channel element (CCE) index, the UE may interpret that only the PDCCH originating from the CSS is transmitted, thereby solving ambiguity of downlink control information (DCI) detection.

  • Patent number: 8611839
Abstract: A method (200) for detecting a periodic signal (141) in a noisy signal (101) is provided. The method can include applying (210) correntropy to the noisy signal to generate a non-linear mapping, and applying (220) a sub-space projection to the non-linear mapping to produce principal components. A correntropy kernel can be applied to the noisy signal to generate a Gram matrix that is used in a Temporal Principal Component Analysis (TPCA). The correntropy kernel projects nonlinearly the input data to a reproducing kernel Hilbert Space (RKHS) preserving the input time structure and attenuating impulsive noise. The correntropy kernel is data dependent, and the RKHS correlation matrix has the same dimension as the input data correlation matrix. A principal component having a majority of signal energy can be chosen (230) to detect the periodic signal.

  • Patent number: 8608944
Abstract: A catalytic conversion process for increasing the light olefin yields, which comprises bringing a hydrocarbon oil feedstock into contact with a catalytic conversion catalyst in a catalytic conversion reactor including one or more reaction zones to carry out the reaction, wherein the hydrocarbon oil feedstock is subjected to the catalytic conversion reaction in the presence of an inhibitor; and separating the reactant vapor optionally containing the inhibitor from the coke deposited catalyst, wherein a target product containing ethylene and propylene is obtained by separating the reactant vapor, and the coke deposited catalyst is stripped and regenerated for recycle use by being returned to the reactor. The process can weaken the further converting reaction of produced light olefins such as ethylene and propylene to 50-70% of the original level by injecting the inhibitor; thereby it can increase the yields of the target products.
