Abstract: A hardware sensor and a hardware user-input component are integrated in a portable electronic device. The hardware sensor is operable to produce hardware sensor output indicative of orientation or motion or both of the device within its environment. The hardware user-input component has multiple elements operable to accept user input through touch. A user-input driver and the device's operating system are jointly operable to detect touch events involving the elements. A software application stored in the device's memory is executable by the device's processor as a process. A sensor driver or the operating system or both are configured to control what hardware sensor output, if any, is receivable by the process. This control may thwart an attack based on analysis of the hardware sensor output, the attack designed to deduce what user input has been made via multiple elements of the hardware user-input component.

Abstract: A compact heat exchanger for veno-venous perfusion-induced hyperthermia includes an integral pneumatic pump and a hollow tubule heat exchange array. A veno-venous perfusion-induced hyperthermia system incorporating the compact heat exchanger is described. The heat exchanger provides a compact, efficient design allowing a lesser heat exchanging surface area and lesser required pumping power compared to conventional systems. In turn, the system provides a shorter blood circuit compared to conventional systems, allowing maintaining a lower blood temperature than such conventional systems while supplying sufficiently heated blood to patient visceral organs to provide a therapeutic effect, such as in supplementing chemotherapy drugs.

  • Publication number: 20130207620
Abstract: An adaptive controller for a static compensator (STATCOM) to enhance voltage stability comprises an outer voltage regulator loop and an inner current regulator loop. Each of the outer loop and the inner loop comprises a proportional integral controller. The outer loop adjusts proportional and integral control gains of voltage regulator. The inner loop adjusts proportional arid integral parts of current regulator gains. The automatic adjustment of these regulator gains is adaptively determined such that the voltage at the controlled bus follows a desired voltage, reference curve over time returning to a desired steady-state condition under various disturbances such as changes in load and/or transmission network. Thus, the adaptive controller can achieve a plug-and-play feature for a STATCOM without human intervention.
