Abstract: Substituted or unsubstituted isoxazolyl benzoic acids, e.g. o-(4-methyl-3-phenylisoxazol-5-yl)benzoic acid, are prepared by dehydrating a corresponding 5-hydroxy-2-isoxazolin-5-yl benzoic acid, and are useful as hypolipidemic agents.

Abstract: The invention discloses substituted 2H,3H-2,1-benzisothiazole-S-oxides having pharmacological activity in animals and useful as CNS depressant agents. The compounds may be prepared by reacting a substituted 2H,3H-2,1-benzisothiazole with an oxidizing agent. The substituted 2H,3H-2,1-benzisothiazole may be prepared by reacting a substituted .alpha.-methylthio-o-toluidine with one equivalent of an oxidizing agent, followed by treatment with base.

Abstract: Imidazolyl-phenoxyphenyl-carbinols and ketones, e.g., .alpha.-(p-phenoxyphenyl)-1-methyl-2-imidazolylmethanol and p-phenoxyphenyl 1-methyl-2-imidazolyl ketone, are useful as hypolipidemic agents. The ketones are obtainable by oxidation of corresponding imidazolyl-phenoxyphenyl-carbinols.
