Abstract: A peptide (Peptide-1) based on the C-terminal of Equine CC10 has been discovered that can be used as a vaccine to protect horses from respiratory airway obstruction (RAO). Antibodies to Peptide-1 may also be administered for short-term passive immunotherapy to RAO-affected horses, and can be used to measure the level of CC10 protein in serum to identify potential RAO horses (horses with reduced CC10). Due to similarities between equine RAO and human asthma, this peptide or its antibodies may also be useful in treatment or prevention of human asthma.

Abstract: A supported catalyst is prepared by a process that includes establishing shell-removal conditions for a supported catalyst intermediate that includes capped nanoparticles of a catalyst material dispersed on a carbon support. The capped nanoparticles each include a platinum alloy core capped in an organic shell. The shell-removal conditions include an elevated temperature and an inert gas atmosphere that is substantially free of oxygen. The organic shell is removed from the platinum alloy core under the shell-removal conditions to limit thermal decomposition of the carbon support and thereby limit agglomeration of the catalyst material such that the supported catalyst includes an electrochemical surface area of at least 30 m2/gPt.

Abstract: An airfoil blade assembly including a blade which includes a lift generating section with a first profiled body defined between a pressure surface and a suction surface. The first profiled body extends from a first leading edge to a first trailing edge with a first chord extending form the first leading edge to the first trailing edge and being perpendicular to the radial direction. At least one flow deflector extends along either the pressure surface or the suction surface within the lift generating section of the blade. The at least one flow deflector defines a second profiled body extending between a second leading edge and a second trailing edge with a second chord extending between the second leading edge and the second trailing edge. The second profiled body defines an outer surface facing away from respective pressure surface or suction surface along which the flow deflector extends.

Abstract: Methods for quantifying biospecimen sample integrity using markers of oxidation (FIG. 1). Under conditions of incomplete blood plasma/serum (P IS) sample freezing (including storage at ?20 ?C), two different forms of oxidation occur spontaneously at protein sulfur atoms—namely S-cysteinylation of free cysteine residues (in which the oxidative event is disulfide bond formation) and sulfoxidation of methionine. Oxidized forms of albumin and apoA-1, SCA and MOA1 are useful markers of biospecimen integrity. The oxidative chemistries of SCA and MOAI are operational in other proteins and polypeptides. Thus, for rare cases in which the use of SCA or MOA1 may be contraindicated, custom designed surrogate peptide probes based on SCA and MOA1 oxidation chemistry may be fortified into samples at collection to serve as exogenous markers of P/S sample integrity.
