Abstract: Mesoporous calcium silicate compositions for controlled release of bioactive agents and methods for producing such compositions are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, mesoporous calcium silicate is synthesized by acid modification of wollastonite particles using hydrochloric acid. A hydrated silica gel layer having abundant Si—OH functional groups can be formed on the surface of wollastonite after acid modification. Bruhauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area increased significantly due to acid modification and, in one arrangement, reached over 350 m2/g. Acid modified mesoporous calcium silicate compositions show a higher ability to adsorb protein compared to unmodified particles and demonstrate controlled release kinetics of these proteins.

Abstract: Automated, standardized and accurate extraction of relationships within text. Automatic extraction of such relationships/information allows the information to be stored in structured form so that it can be easily and accurately retrieved when needed. Such information can be used to build online search engines for highly specific and accurate information retrieval. Generally, according to the current invention, extracting such information (i.e., relationships within text) from raw text can be accomplished using natural language processing (NLP) and graph theoretic algorithm. Examples of such textual relationships include, but are not limited to, biological relationships between biological terms such as proteins, genes, pathways, diseases and drugs. The current methodology is also able to recognize negative dependences in context, match patterns, and provide a shortest path between related words.

Abstract: An auxiliary circuit may be used to assist in the operation of a power converter to obtain zero-voltage switching. For example, an auxiliary circuit including a low-voltage switch, a diode, and an inductor may be coupled to a power converter, such as a DC-to-DC buck converter or a DC-to-AC inverter or rectifier. The auxiliary circuit may consume current during transitions in the power converter to obtain zero-voltage switching.

Abstract: For lingual transformation-based encryption, a method parses communication data into lingual units. The method further generates a validation nonce from the lingual units. In addition, the method generates a transform unit for each lingual unit by applying a lingual message transformation to each lingual unit as an encryption function of a selection rule.
Abstract: A new and distinct Buddleja cultivar named ‘MISS PEARL’ is disclosed, characterized by white ruffled flowers, upright spike-like inflorescences, compact growth habit with high lateral branching and dense foliage, medium green leaf color (adaxial side) with silver-gray underside. Plants are female sterile and anthers malformed or lacking. The new variety is a Buddleja, normally produced as an outdoor garden or container plant.
Abstract: Improved pulmonary embolism (PE) detection may be obtained through computer aided-diagnosis. In particular, PE detection may be accomplished through patient-level diagnosis, embolus-level detection, or a combination of the two. Patient-level diagnosis operates to quickly exclude non-PE patients and dispatch PE-patients to treatment. Embolus-level detection operates to localize individual emboli to support personalized medicine via risk stratification. Multiple instance-based learning (MIBL) classification at the patient level explores the key observation that once any TP candidate of a patient is classified as positive, the patient is identified as PE positive. That is, MIBL focuses on correct classification of patients rather than individual candidates, to effectively and rapidly distinguish between PE patients and non-PE patients.

Abstract: Embodiments of a system for determining personal attributes based on public interaction data are illustrated. In one embodiment, the system employs a process for predicting personal attributes based on public interaction data by constructing matrices based on user interactions drawn from public posts on a social media website. The process may further learn a compact representation for a plurality of users based on public posts using the matrices, extract the compact representation of one or more users that have been labeled, and apply a classifier to learn about a particular personal attribute. Through this, a prediction of personal attributes of users that have not been labeled may be obtained.

Abstract: A thermoelectric device and method based on creating a structure of nanoclusters in a composite metal and insulator material by co-depositing the metal and insulator material and irradiating the composite material to create nanoclusters of metal within the composite material. In one variation, the composite material may be continuously deposited and concurrently irradiated. A further variation based on a multilayer structure having alternate layers of metal/material mixture. The alternate layers have differing metal content. The layer structure is irradiated with ionizing radiation to produce nanoclusters in the layers. The differing metal content serves to quench the nanoclusters to isolate nanoclusters along the radiation track. The result is a thermoelectric device with a high figure of merit. In one embodiment, the multilayer structure is fabricated and then irradiated with high energy radiation penetrating the entire layer structure.
