Abstract: A microporous gel system for certain applications, including biomedical applications, includes an aqueous solution containing plurality of microgel particles including a biodegradable crosslinker. In some aspects, the microgel particles act as gel building blocks that anneal to one another to form a covalently-stabilized scaffold of microgel particles having interstitial spaces therein. In certain aspects, annealing of the microgel particles occurs after exposure to an annealing agent that is endogenously present or exogenously added. In some embodiments, annealing of the microgel particles requires the presence of an initiator such as exposure to light. In particular embodiments, the chemical and physical properties of the gel building blocks can be controlled to allow downstream control of the resulting assembled scaffold. In one or more embodiments, cells are able to quickly infiltrate the interstitial spaces of the assembled scaffold.

Abstract: It has been revealed that, from a pre-onset stage of Alzheimer's disease, enhancement of phosphorylations of MARCKS and the like causes abnormal spine formation or the like, consequently developing the disease. It also has been revealed that the phosphorylations of MARCKS and the like are caused by PKC and the like, and further that b-raf is involved in phosphorylation of tau protein important for the progression of Alzheimer's disease. Thus, these proteins have been found to be target molecules useful in the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer's disease. In addition, it has also been revealed that, in a pre-onset stage of frontotemporal lobar degeneration, b-RAF phosphorylation enhancement causes a decrease in the number of spines and the like, consequently developing the disease. Thus, b-RAF has been found to be a target molecule useful in the diagnosis and treatment of frontotemporal lobar degeneration.

Abstract: A vision-aided inertial navigation system (VINS) implements a square-root multi- state constraint Kalman filter (SR-MSCKF) for navigation. In one example, a processor of a VINS receives image data and motion data for a plurality of poses of a frame of reference along a trajectory. The processor executes an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF)- based estimator to compute estimates for a position and orientation for each of the plurality of poses of the frame of reference along the trajectory. For features observed from multiple poses along the trajectory, the estimator computes constraints that geometrically relate the multiple poses of the respective feature. Using the motion data and the computed constraints, the estimator computes state estimates for the position and orientation of the frame of reference. Further, the estimator determines uncertainty data for the state estimates and maintains the uncertainty data as a square root factor of a covariance matrix.

Abstract: The present invention related to the proline rich transmembrane protein 2 (PRRT2) gene, and the identification of mutations and variations in PRRT2 that give rise to seizure and movement disorders. Accordingly, the present invention provides methods for the diagnosis or prognosis of such disorders by identifying alterations in the PRRT2 gene. Identification of alterations in the PRRT2 gene also enables the identification of subjects with an increased likelihood of having an offspring predisposed to such disorders. The present invention also provides an isolated nucleic acid molecule comprising an alteration in the PRRT2 gene, wherein said alteration produces a seizure and/or movement disorder phenotype. Also provided is an isolated PRRT2 polypeptide that comprises an alteration which produces a seizure and/or movement disorder phenotype.

Abstract: A method for achieving voltage-controlled gate-modulated light emission using monolithic integration of fin- and nanowire-n-i-n vertical FETs with bottom-tunnel junction planar InGaN LEDs is described. This method takes advantage of the improved performance of bottom-tunnel junction LEDs over their top-tunnel junction counterparts, while allowing for strong gate control on a low-cross-sectional area fin or wire without sacrificing LED active area as in lateral integration designs. Electrical modulation of 5 orders, and an order of magnitude of optical modulation are achieved in the device.

Abstract: A static random-access memory (SRAM) cell for high-speed content-addressable memory (CAM) and in-memory Boolean logic operations includes a standard 6T-SRAM and two additional PMOS access transistors, where read word lines of the two positive-channel metal oxide semiconductor (PMOS) access transistors P1 and P2 are RWLR and RWLL respectively, and under the control thereof, a differential read port RBL/RBL is formed. The SRAM cell is suitable for multi-row address selection, and typically applied to in-memory high-speed CAM and in-memory Boolean logic operations. Due to PMOS device characteristics, the structure design of the SRAM cell can avoid read disturbance generated by an in-memory SRAM, and ensure that the SRAM can perform in-memory CAM and in-memory Boolean logic operations stably at a high speed. In addition, this SRAM-based IMC solution supports commercial CMOS technology, and has an opportunity to leverage a large number of existing on-chip SRAM caches.
