  • Publication number: 20190394550
Abstract: Accurate measurements of the sound pressure level require regular calibration of the microphone. Closed-coupler calibration devices are designed to work with laboratory and working standard microphones, but there are numerous microphones with dimensions that do not fit a standard coupler. For example, micro-electro-mechanical system microphones are very small and widely used due to their size, performance, and cost. Described herein is an acoustical coupler that can accommodate microphones of arbitrary cross-sectional shape. The coupler utilizes a flexible membrane that adapts to the shape of the microphone. In contrast to a rigid enclosure, the permeability of the membrane creates an open system that reduces the sensitivity to fit. The precision and accuracy of the device is demonstrated by calibrating a small, oddly shaped microphone using the substitution method.

Abstract: Embodiments generally disclosed herein relate to a sub-wavelength multi-port codesign approach between the unit transceiver element and the integrated EM interface to enable a generalized broadband MIMO array with individually programmable element patterns. The co-design approach allows processing of radiated signals at the antenna level distinct from classical arrays. The transmitter and receiver architectures with the integrated EM interface are implemented in 65-nm CMOS and have a bandwidth of 37-73 GHz. Wireless links with data rates up to 12 Gb/s are demonstrated across the spectrum with a wide range of reconfigurability of the active EM interface. The multifunctional EM interface and the broadband transceivers can enable future efficient and compact MIMO arrays for reliable links exploiting frequency, spatial, pattern and polarization diversities.

  • Patent number: 10514586
Abstract: Recent remarkable progress in wave-front shaping has enabled control of light propagation inside linear media to focus and image through scattering objects. In particular, light propagation in multimode fibers comprises complex intermodal interactions and rich spatiotemporal dynamics. Control of physical phenomena in multimode fibers and its applications is in its infancy, opening opportunities to take advantage of complex mode interactions. Various embodiments of the present technology provide wave-front shaping for controlling nonlinear phenomena in multimode fibers. Using a spatial light modulator at the fiber's input and a genetic algorithm optimization, some embodiments control a highly nonlinear stimulated Raman scattering cascade and its interplay with four wave mixing via a flexible implicit control on the superposition of modes that are coupled into the fiber.
