Patent number: 4009047Abstract: A device for cleaning foreign material from at least one surface of a sheet including at least one low durometer sheet cleaning roller having a tacky peripheral surface. The surface of the sheet to be cleaned is biased against and moved generally tangentially across the tacky peripheral surface of the cleaning roller with rolling contact therebetween so that foreign material on the surface of the sheet will be adhered to the tacky surface of the cleaning roller. The tacky surface of the cleaning roller is in turn cleaned by bringing into rolling contact therewith a surface on a roller cleaning member (which surface may be provided by the adhesive on a length of tape) having a higher surface tack than the cleaning roller. In one embodiment of the device the roller cleaning member is periodically passed over the cleaning roller by the operator of the device, whereas other embodiments automatically pass the roller cleaning member over the cleaning roller during each cycle of the device to clean a sheet.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1974Date of Patent: February 22, 1977Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Thomas W. Patent number: 4007510Abstract: A carpet care tool beautifies, fluffs and cleans carpet fibers by brushing its relatively short, densely disposed and uniformly slanted filaments against the carpet fibers in one direction as the tool is drawn in a sweeping stroke in pressing engagement with the carpet. Pushing the tool in the opposite direction while pressed against the carpet quickly dislodges the entrapped foreign matter such as lint, hairs, threads and dust particles so they can be quite easily picked up and discarded. The specially contoured brushing head, together with its resilient padding arrangement to give uniform deflection over the entire working surface of the head, plus trilobed slanted filaments of the brush fabric itself, all cooperate to provide a well-groomed, beautifully finished carpet appearance not possible with mere vacuuming techniques.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 1975Date of Patent: February 15, 1977Assignee: Modern Plastic SalesInventors: Baxter I. Patent number: 4004318Abstract: An attachment is disclosed for assembly with a conventional paint brush, and more particularly with the metallic collar of the paint brush used to assemble the bristles with the handle portion. A clamp assembly comprising front and rear plates attached to the collar and defines upwardly projecting pintles for pivotally receiving a hinge pin oriented parallel to the free edge of the bristles. A guard is pivotally mounted to the pin and has a bevelled free edge which is located adjacent to the free edge of the bristles in order to serve as a guide for striking a painted line or the like. The bias of a small compression spring must be overcome to urge the free edge of the guard against the bristles, and the guard can be pivoted to an inactive position in order to permit the user to insert the brush in a paint can of the like in a conventional manner.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 1975Date of Patent: January 25, 1977Inventor: Carl E.
