  • Patent number: 6765324
Abstract: In an electric generator, a housing mounted on a vehicle wheel has a surrounding wall extending from a periphery of a base wall and cooperating with the base wall to confine a receiving space. An air impeller is disposed in the receiving space, has a spindle coupled rotatably to the base wall, and is formed with multiple radial impeller blades such that flow of air into the receiving space through an inlet vent hole and out of the receiving space through an outlet vent hole when the vehicle wheel rotates results in rotation of the air impeller in the receiving space. A magnet ring is disposed in the receiving space around a stator coil, which is mounted securely in the receiving space, and is coupled co-rotatably to the air impeller such that rotation of the magnet ring results in an induced electrical current in the stator coil.

  • Patent number: 6765328
Abstract: An inner rotatable shaft 16 is located within an outer rotatable shaft 18. A stator 52 is provided around the shaft 18. The shaft 18 has a circumferential ring of regions 54a, 54b alternately of relatively high and relatively low magnetic permeability. Flux is therefore transmitted between the stator 52 and the shaft 16 through the regions 54, preferentially through the high permeability regions 54a. Commutation of the stator windings, preferably in synchrony with the speed of rotation of the shaft 18, allows the stator 52 and shaft 16 to interact in the form of an active magnetic bearing. The affect of the presence of the shaft 18 on this interaction is significantly reduced or eliminated.

The zone concerned, on the road, consists of at least one segment oriented in the direction of travel, so that the image created by the optical sensor is a characteristic curve representing the light distribution on the road. This image is compared with a reference curve to determine the state of humidity. The reference curve represents light distribution when the road is dry.

Abstract: A control and motor arrangement for use in a model train includes a control arrangement integrally constructed with a motor. The control arrangement receives rotational speed and positional information from the motor and uses this information to determine how much power to supply to the motor, thus controlling the rotational speed of the motor. In this way, the control arrangement maintains a constant motor speed, if desired. In addition, the speed and positional information is optionally provided to a sound control arrangement for use in selecting appropriate sound effects.

The duration and magnitude of the torque pulse are subtracted from a torque signal and the resulting difference is integrated over time to obtain a fastener angular velocity signal. The angular velocity signal is integrated over time to obtain a displacement signal which can be converted to a torque signal. The impact tool can be controlled based on the value of the torque signal.

Abstract: A variable motor (1) having reduced audible noise. This advantage is achieved by reducing or eliminating ripple torque by making the individual phase torques follow a certain profile, so that when the torques are summed, they are substantially constant. Therefore, the motor (1) back EMF is used as a reference waveform to control the winding currents to achieve reduced ripple torque. The back EMF reference is amplified and provided to the motor windings, and may be derived in a number of ways including use of sense windings, electronic derivation, and approximation by sensing the voltage applied to the windings.

Abstract: A motor controlling device for an AC/DC driven motor is used for an AC and DC motor. The motor controlling device comprises an AC/DC converting unit, a voltage stabilizing unit, a phase detecting/controlling unit, and a high voltage driving unit. The AC/DC converting unit receives an AC power source to convert the AC power source into a high voltage DC voltage. The voltage stabilizing unit receives the high voltage DC voltage to convert it into a low voltage DC voltage. The phase detecting/controlling unit detects a polarity of the permanent magnet to output a first detecting and a second detecting signals accordingly, so as to provide automatically a shut down protection when the motor is locked. The high voltage driving unit receives the first detecting and the second detecting signals to drive the motor accordingly.

Abstract: This invention includes a charger that may be mounted either in a horizontal configuration, e.g. on a desktop, or in a vertical configuration, e.g. on a wall. The charger has pockets geometrically oriented so as to support batteries in either configuration. Each pocket includes a corresponding display. As changing from a desktop configuration to a wall mount configuration requires the user to rotate the charger by 180 degrees, a switch is provided to rotate the information shown on the display by 180 degrees. The switch is preferably recessed below the surface of the charger so as to prevent nuisance actuation. The resulting orientation of the display is stored in a non-volatile memory to prevent resets when power is removed. By holding the switch down for a predetermined amount of time, a user can send the display into a test mode so as to run diagnostics and verify proper display operation.

Abstract: Provided are an apparatus and method for managing power, and more particularly, an apparatus and method for stably managing power by comparing a predetermined reference voltage level with a battery voltage level. The provided method for managing power includes (a) detecting the battery voltage level, which supplies power to a system after a predetermined period from the system being powered off, and comparing the battery voltage level with a reference voltage level, and (b) deciding the operation of the system in correspondence to the result of the comparison. According to the provided method, when the battery voltage level of the system is between the power off voltage level and the reference voltage level, the system is operated in the sleep mode using a minimum amount of power. When the battery voltage level is above the reference voltage level, the system is operated normally when a power switch is turned on. Consequently, the power and system are stably managed.
