Abstract: The present invention is an adjustable support for installing a planar sheet of material between opposed surfaces without the need for piercing the opposed surfaces with nails or screws. The supports provide pressure to wedge the planar sheet, thereby holding it in place during storms, etc. The supports are easily removed. The support has a base and adjustably/removable attached clamp whereby the planar material is sandwiched between the base and clamp. A pressure screw threaded through the clamp and passing through the base is tightened, thereby applying traverse pressure on the planar sheet, wedging it between the opposed surfaces.

Abstract: This invention is related to equipment and techniques for fast neutron activation analysis of explosives and /or other warfare agent. The techniques are based on 14 MeV fast neutrons from D-T fusion reaction, the kinematics of the nuclear reaction and fast coincidence between ?-particles of the D-T reaction and ?-quanta from fast neutron induced reactions. A fast neutron generator with effective target cooling and different operation modes provides high neutron yield, long life, and simple maintenance of the equipment and good geometric resolution of the directional neutron beam. High positional resolution of the directionally scanning neutron beam, high time resolution of the coincidence and high neutron yield provide the real time robust screen of explosives with high speed and/or high sensitivity, flexibility for big and small items and overall high probability of detection (PD) and low probability of false alarms (PFA). The remote video scan device also has zooming capability to change solid angle.

Abstract: The invention relates to an inorganic scintillator material of formula AnLnpX(3p+n) in which Ln represents one or more rare earths, X represents one or more halogen atoms, chosen from F, Cl, Br or I, and A represents one or more alkali metals, such as K, Li, Na, Rb or Cs, n and p representing values such that n, which may be zero, is less than or equal to 2p, and that p is greater than or equal to 1, its content of daughter elements of uranium and thorium being low enough for the activity resulting from the alpha radiation from these elements to be less than 0.7 Bq/cc. This material has a very low nuclear background noise and is particularly suitable as a detector scintillator for coating weight or thickness measurements, in the fields of nuclear medicine, physics, chemistry and oil exploration, and for the detection of dangerous or illicit materials.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for detecting the presence and/or absence of a solid, liquid or gas which utilize an RF energy emitter and RF energy detector for determining whether a solid, liquid or gas is present within a defined physical space. More specifically, an RF energy emitter is provided at a first side of a solid, liquid or gas transmission channel and an RF energy receiver/detector is provided at an opposite side of the solid liquid or gas fluid channel. The RF energy emitter either continuously or periodically emits RF energy which in the preferred exemplary embodiment is in the high-frequency or more preferably ultrahigh frequency signal range. The amount of detected RF energy transferred across the channel is used in determining the presence and/or absence of a solid, liquid or gas.

By clamping the O-ring between the base and the collar to provide a compressing sealing efficiency, water-tightness efficiency is improved and change convenience of the illuminating unit is obtained. Wherein, the illuminating unit is composed of an upper filament and a lower filament enclosed inside a quartz inner tube and then further protected by the O-ring so that a dual-protection to the illuminating unit is achieved. Thereby, the ultraviolet lamp has excellent water-tightness efficiency to extend its lifespan and is convenient and time-saving in assembly and repair.

Abstract: A method of estimating a radiation dose deposited on a radiochromic film based on absorption measurements at least at two wavelengths as well as devices implementing the estimation method. The method includes the following steps: (a) measuring absorption values at a first wavelength and a second wavelength; (b) converting the absorption values at the two wavelengths to dose values at the corresponding wavelengths by using a calibration procedure; (c) obtaining a weighting factor curve (weighting factor vs. dose) at each wavelengths; and (d) obtaining an estimate of irradiation dose at the location on the radiochromic film by minimizing the objective function which takes the weighting factors and the dose values at both wavelengths as input.

Abstract: A method for operating a Cartesian-type electron beam (e-beam) lithography (EBL) tool enables the efficient and precise writing of a closed curvilinear pattern, such as a circle, over a wide area of a workpiece. The curvilinear pattern overlies a plurality of contiguous fields of the EBL tool's x-y positioning stage, and the stage is moved along a path defined by the contiguous fields. Alignment marks associated with the first and next-to-last fields are formed on the specimen. The alignment marks are used to adjust the shape of the last field so that when the e-beam is scanned in the last field there is a substantially continuous connection of the pattern between the next-to-last field and the first field. The invention is particularly applicable to making a master disk with concentric circular tracks for nanoimprinting patterned magnetic recording disks.

Abstract: A system and method form illumination that efficiently illuminates target areas of an object. For example, target areas can be transmission areas of a diaphragm and/or active areas of a patterning device. A plurality of beams formed by a field defining element are directed onto respective entrance faces of a plurality of rods using a relay of first and second lens arrays. The rods process the beams to form illumination that impinges substantially only within a boundary of the target areas, e.g., the transmission areas and/or the active areas. The rods are arranged in number, configuration, and cross-sectional shape corresponding to a number, configuration, and a cross-sectional shape of the target areas, e.g., the transmission areas and/or the active areas. Thus, substantially all the illumination falls within the boundary of the target areas, increasing illumination efficiency.

Abstract: A method and system for determining the lateral position of an edge of a web are disclosed. The system includes a plurality of optical transmitters, a plurality of optical receivers, a plurality of ultrasonic transmitters, a plurality of ultrasonic receivers, and a controller. The controller is used to determine which type of transmitter and receiver should be used in conjunction with the specific web to be processed. The controller activates certain optical transmitters and determines the amount of optical occlusion that results from the web being between the optical transmitters and receivers. The controller also activates certain ultrasonic transmitters and determines the amount of sound occlusion that results from the web passing between the ultrasonic transmitters and receivers. The type of transmitter/receiver that results in the most occlusion can then be selected to determine the position of the edge of the web.
