  • Patent number: 4291867
Abstract: The invention is a work holding system for adjustably receiving and holding printed circuit boards for automatic machine component insertion. It includes a frame and a plurality of mutually cooperative adjustable board holders. The frame is U-shaped and is made up of framing members each having a linear scale affixed thereto. An adjustably positionable framing member extends across the U and is slidable along the opposed framing members toward and away from the base framing member forming the bottom of the U. Means are provided for indexing, locking the adjustably positionable member to the frame in any desired position. A linear scale is also carried by the adjustably positionable member and all scales have a common datum. The frame carries indexing means to index it to the machine which inserts components. A number of adjustable board holders are slidably carried by the base framing member and the adjustably positionable framing member to receive circuit boards therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4258928
Abstract: A precision positioning device with a pair of relatively movable plates defining a carriage for four relatively movable guides. A centering port having a rectangular profile is formed by the guides which are constrained for mutually coating movement on the plates. The relative positions of the movable plates define the geometric shape of the centering port and the relative locations of the guides determine the size of the centering port. A pedestal configured to carry the article to be centered is positioned at the center of the centering port. A driver momentarily moves the guides and opens the centering port for reception of the article. Bias elements urge the guides against the item for centering the article on the collet.

  • Patent number: 4211393
Abstract: A vise for holding a row of discrete articles between spaced front and rear vise jaws, wherein each of the front and rear jaws has an integral side jaw at one end thereof so that the two side jaws face each other across the space formed between the front and rear jaws, and the front jaw is linearly and angularly movable relative to the rear jaw in response to actuation of clamping means, to clamp a row of articles between the front and rear jaws and along the length of the row between the side jaws. The clamping means is capable of clamping the row of articles in both directions on a single movement of a control handle.

  • Patent number: 4174847
Abstract: A precision centering device with a pair of relatively movable plates forming a guideway for four relatively movable guides. A tapered centering port having a rectangular profile is formed by the guides which are constrained for mutual coacting movement by the plates. The relative positions of the movable plates define the geometric shape of the centering port and the relative locations of the guides determine the size of the centering port. A reciprocating collet configured to carry a semiconductor chip is received within the centering port at the center thereof. As the collet moves downwardly, the chip is guided through the tapered port and is centered on the collet.

  • Patent number: 4170449
Abstract: A clamping frame for use in plastic forming apparatus which includes a plurality of tubular elements joined together to define an opening over which a sheet of plastic material is mounted with the edges of the plastic sheet being held against supporting surfaces of the tubular elements by clamps. Each tubular element is formed of a thermally conductive material and includes an interiorly disposed heating element located adjacent the supporting surfaces of the tubular element. The tubular elements include a plurality of interconnections to permit selective positioning of the tubular elements with respect to one another for varying the size of the opening defined thereby, and these interconnections also electrically connect the heating elements within the tubular elements at all adjusted positions thereof to form a closed electrical circuit which may be connected to an electrical source whereby the edges of the plastic sheet between the clamps and the tubular element supporting surfaces may be heated.
