Abstract: A document formed of a stack of papers bound at the spine is equipped with a slide bar that achieves locking engagement with a document cover formed of a plurality of sheets of material. The sheets of document cover material are joined to each other at a binding margin. The sheet of cover material that passes around the spine of the cover forms a back cover beneath the stack of papers and a narrow, margin panel or strip that overlies the adjacent edge of the other sheet of binding material, which forms a front cover. The slide bar has a pair of jaws that terminate in distal tips that face each other at an angle of least forty-five degrees across a gap defined between the distal tips of the jaws. The slide bar is inserted onto the binding edge of the stack of papers and the cover encompassing them in a direction parallel to the binding edge from either the top or bottom end of the stack.

Abstract: An index system using single axis or multiple axes with single and multiple leaves turning around this axis (axes). All leaves or groups of leaves present an exposed marginal portion obtained by relative extension of leaves and/or partial removal of a portion of the marginal portion (s), which provides an overview of the content, which is indexed in groups and subgroups. Use is made of brief descriptions, capital letters, numbers, arrows and distinctive background color for facilitating the use of the index system.

Abstract: A part recycle device of a document file includes two spaced first through holes formed in a clamping member, two spaced second through holes formed in a side wall of an outer plate, two screw members, a press plate, and two nuts. Each of the two screw members extends through one of the two spaced first through holes and one of the two spaced second through holes. The press plate has a first end face formed with two spaced third through holes, and a second end face provided with two spaced protruding rings each formed with a polygonal recess aligning with one of the two spaced third through holes. Each of the two nuts is received in the polygonal recess of one of the two spaced protruding rings of the press plate, and may be engaged with one of the two screw members.

Abstract: A method of doing business where the reading and exchange of children's books is promoted. A series of children's books, each having unique front and back cover illustrations, are each contained within a book bag having side panel illustrations matching the front and back cover illustrations. The book and book bag are sold together, with at least one compartment within the book bag sized to receive and contain the book. Children are encouraged to read other books in the series upon viewing the cover art associated with the books, the cover art serving to provide a preview of the contents of the book.

Abstract: A folder includes a spine having a base and first and second spine hinge portions. The spine defines a longitudinal axis and has an exterior surface that is curved around the longitudinal axis. The folder also includes a first cover having a first cover hinge portion pivotably attached to the first spine hinge portion. The first cover has a first curved portion with an exterior surface that is curved around the longitudinal axis. The folder further includes a second cover having a second cover hinge portion pivotably attached to the second spine hinge portion. The second cover has a second curved portion with an exterior surface that is curved around the longitudinal axis. The spine and the first and second curved portions together define a generally rounded contour around the longitudinal axis when the folder is in a closed position.

Abstract: A novel method of advertising in appropriate bound or unbound publications wherein the pages of the publication are folded in half and may be bound along one edge by either saddle-stitching or perfect-binding the pages at the center of the publication together, wherein a carrier member formed of a folded member that is appropriately bound into the publication and has at least one adhesive strip or a plurality of adhesive spots positioned adjacent one edge for mounting a substantially thinner mouse pad thereon for ease of removal and subsequent use. The mouse pad is formed of a thin generally transparent plastic material and carries advertising printed on the undersurface of the pad, which advertising is viewed through the transparent pad; the mouse pad acting to insure that the publication will flip open at the position of the pad so that the viewer or reader will see the advertising early in the inspection of the publication.

Abstract: A video slide projection book is shown. The video slide projection book has a front cover and a back cover connected to the front cover at a binding. A plurality of pages are interposed between the front cover and the back cover and are connected to the binding. The video slide projection book also has a projector configured to accept a video slide source. The projector is configured to have a casing defining an interior volume; a circuit positioned in the interior volume and a lens. A holder is connected to the back cover wherein the holder is configured to accept the projector.

Abstract: A book-marking device for marking a page location in a book. The device includes a pocket having a first end, a second end, and a mid-section, the pocket being of a pocket length between the first end and the second end the pocket length being adapted to extend approximately the cover length, and an elastic strap, the elastic strap extending from the first end and terminating in a strap end, and being of a relaxed length that is approximately as long as the pocket length. The elastic strap is adapted for extending around the cover to the second end of the pocket, retaining the pocket against the cover.

Abstract: A flexible loose-leaf sheet storage element for holding one record disc and its accompanying graphic pages on one side and another record disc and its accompanying graphic pages on the other side, comprises a front transparent sheet, a middle sheet and a back transparent sheet interconnected along their four edges and a substantial midline between their upper and lower edges. Two pockets for receiving record discs and two pockets for receiving their accompanying graphic pages are thus formed.

Abstract: A storage pouch has a pouch body and a cord. The pouch body encloses an interior cavity and has an opening in communication with the interior cavity. The cord is attached to the pouch body and has variable-size first and second loops located outside the pouch body, wherein increasing the size of the first loop decreases the size of the second loop, and wherein increasing the size of the second loop decreases the size of the first loop. The loops are made of substantially equal size to attach the storage pouch by the loops to the rings of a loose-leaf ring binder, and the size of one loop is enlarged to hang the storage pouch by the one loop on a larger hook.

Abstract: A single sheet of non-woven material is provided with sufficient strength and durability to store two compact discs without the necessity of laminating or otherwise interconnecting the non-woven sheet to a backing sheet or other materials for strength. The single sheet of non-woven material is positioned between the playing surfaces of the two compact discs to provide a non-scratching, protective surface and to reduce the costs associated with manufacturing the sleeves used to store the CDS.

The first binder has an oblong hole and a round hole. The second binder has an oblong slot to match the oblong hole of the first binder. A pleated flap is connected to the second binder. The pleated flap has a first crease and a second crease. The pleated flap is inserted in the oblong hole of the first binder.

Abstract: A bookbinding repair kit containing instructions, diagrams and equipment to carry out repair to damaged or torn backing shoulder joints of any book, the equipment comprising a complete endpaper consisting of one evenly folded sheet of paper with a double-sided adhesive strip no less than 7 mm and no more than 10 mm in width but of a particular length, with a peel away backing paper attached to the endpaper adjacent one side of the endpaper fold, a double-sided self adhesive strip of mull cloth of a particular width and length, two thirds of each side of the mull cloth being covered with a peel away backing strip and the remaining third adhered to the adhesive side of a sconelined, one sided self-adhesive paper the same size as the endpaper, the endpaper side without the adhesive strip being glued to the plain side of the scorelined paper.

Abstract: The invention relates to a novel book cover which is used together with the known firm bindings, that is U-shaped steel bars. According to the invention, a flexible support material is arranged in two layers and in parallel to the flanks of a U-shaped bar. The layers of the book cover that are in parallel to the flanks are intimately glued together except for a flexible connection of two layers, that is either the support material is flexibly arranged in relation to its two layers or—as shown in FIG. 1—the inner surface of the flank is flexibly arranged in relation to the layer. The resin layer usually fixes the leaves, the resin layer being applied on the transversal insert of the support material. The transversal insert rests against the base of the U-shaped bar, that is it is not firmly linked with it, when the book is closed. When the book is opened, the bound leaves are vertically moved, thereby allowing the leaves to be turned so that they lie flat.

Abstract: A reinforced book assembled from a stack of media sheets and a cover. Each media sheet includes at least one binding region located adjacent to a binding edge of that media sheet. The binding region of each sheet is aligned with and faces a binding region of an adjacent media sheet. The cover extends at least partially over a first face of the stack, wraps around the binding edges of the media sheets, and extends at least partially over a second face of the stack. The book also includes activated imaging material on the binding region of each media sheet binding the media sheets together as well as activated imaging material on the cover binding the cover to the binding regions on the first and second faces of the stack.

Abstract: A system for mounting a component to a portfolio including a tongue located on the component, the tongue having a tail portion and a tip portion, and a portfolio having a tongue opening formed therein. The top can be inserted into the tongue opening and component rotated relative to the portfolio until the tongue is generally received through the tongue opening to couple the component to the portfolio.

Abstract: A self-adhesive label is provided for displaying useful information about an object to which the label is affixed. The label is formed with a face layer constructed out of heavy paper, such as cardstock, and having a first planar surface which is suitable to receive printed indicia thereon. An adhesive layer coats a second planar surface of the face layer and includes a pocket-forming window therein, which is in communication with a slot in the face layer, and adhesively affixes the face layer to the object. The pocket-forming window defines an item receiving pocket between the object and the face layer, wherein the item-receiving pocket is accessible through the slot, for example, to removably insert a card therein. A sheet of labels is also provided having two or more labels thereon, wherein each of the two or more labels are removable from the sheet for individual use thereof.

Abstract: An page marking device is disclosed. The marking device is part of a book. The book has a tab assembly carrier. The carrier has a plurality of removable tabs disposed on the carrier. Printed indicia is located on the tabs. The tabs are secured to the carrier by a non-aggressive adhesive allowing the tabs to be removed from the carrier relocated and/or removed again as required by the user of the device. Printed indicia may also be located on or beneath said carrier.

Abstract: A device that aids in the holding of a book or binder is fully adjustable to the hand size of the holder by parting and remating of hook and loop fastening strips attached to U-shaped clips, the U-shaped clips being placed at the top and bottom of the outside surface of the backbone or spine of a book or binder.

Abstract: An item, such as a folder, binder or book is converted into a presentation or display device by affixing thereto a display stand, which when not being used as display stand nests about the outside of the covers of the item whose contents are to be displayed. Also included are holders for the corners of the pages to be displayed. When the covers of the item are fully opened at 180° so that the contents thereof can be displayed page at a time, the stand folds into a supporting structure of generally triangular cross-section with an upper edge thereof engaged with tabs extending outwardly from the covers of the item. At the same time, the corners of the displayed pages can be placed in the holders to assure that the pages are displayed flat and do not sag under the influence of gravity.

A secondary pictorial element on the front panel is juxtaposed with the window. Selected surfaces, elements, and panels have text written thereon.

Abstract: A writing system utilizing ultraviolet light and ultraviolet sensitive ink, preferably used with a diary or journal. The ultraviolet sensitive ink is preferably colorless under normal lighting and under such normal lighting does not appear on the paper used with the writing system, which paper is preferably white or black. When written upon, the paper will appear to be blank under normal lighting. Once the ultraviolet light is activated over the surface of the pages, illuminating the ultraviolet sensitive ink, text or drawings created with the ultraviolet ink will be revealed.

The front cover has illustrations on both the convex and concave surfaces of a three-dimensionally contoured element. The rear cover has a holographic element. Abstract: A booklet is provided which is easily formed in the in-line finishing process part of a web printing press operation having a plurality of sheets or layers, each sheet or layer having multiple removable portions positioned about a central portion used to attach the layers or sheets to one another. The removable portions of the booklet are particularly useful as coupons, advertising material or the like. The booklet may be attached to a newspaper, magazine, catalog or the like by extending the outer edge of one of the removable portions so such outer edge can be attached to the newspaper, magazine, or the like. The booklet may also be removable from the newspaper, magazine, catalog or the like by placing perforations between the attachable extension and the outer removable portion. Also provided is a method of making the inventive booklet.

Abstract: The invention provides a book containing a three dimensional model assembly made from a plurality of model components attached to respective pages in the book. The model can be a human body or anything desired. When the book is closed, the model components combine to form a completely assembled model assembly that is thinner than the book. Thus, the book can lie flat on either its front or back cover on a flat surface. When the book is open, and as a reader turns each page, the model components attached to the respective page separate from the model assembly revealing other components that remain combined to form a partially assembled model assembly. The components can be fixedly or hingedly attached to respective pages with bars, flaps or both. If hingedly attached, the model components can be separated from the model assembly without turning a respective page.

Abstract: A lightweight molded notepad holder that straps to the users wrist. The holder uses commercially available self-stick notes that insert directly into the holder. The individual pages of the notepad may be prevented from flying up or curling by use of one or more retainers built into the corners of the holder. Once in the holder, the pages are instantly available for note taking or dispensing as self-stick notes. The wrist strap also accommodates a wristwatch in conjunction with the wrist notepad holder.

The first and second fold lines, together with the welded areas, produce a plastic folder that more securely, and durably, holds paper therein.

Abstract: The current invention is a fold-open, clipboard-sized medical folder, made of leather or vinyl over reinforced cardboard, which holds a paper medical record (or other document) on one side and an electronic computer device on the other. It is designed to facilitate the incremental transition from paper to electronic record keeping. Both paper document and electronic device are removable to allow for separate movement throughout the office. The invention has a series of 3-4 “flags” mounted as colored pull tabs or on/off, colored lights visible on the lateral external surface, for use as interoffice alerts and in chart routing instructions.

Abstract: A compact disc storage book is formed with board book pages having pockets therein to receive compact discs. The board book is comprised of folded, printed signatures adhered to one another. A hard cover is attached to and covers the pages to protect the pages and compact discs from damage or contamination. The board book has an expandable spine, which increases its size or thickness from its smaller empty size to its larger, filled size when filled with compact discs. In the preferred method of making this storage book, the signatures have been printed and slit to form the CD receiving pockets prior to being folded on a signature folding machine. The folded signatures are fed by feeders of a signature gathering machine in proper sequence onto a gathering conveyor. The signature gathering machine has a programmable glue applicator to form the glue pattern including the glue pattern for the accordion fold, expandable backbone for the book form.

The holes may be elongated.

Abstract: A checklist article is claimed which serves as a safety reference and a general information reference for scuba divers during the planning stages for a dive as well as during and after the dive. The reference information includes safety information, equipment maintenance information, dive tables and related information. The article is sized to conveniently be carried in a pocket and the pages of the article are made of a substance which will withstand underwater use. In addition, a method of advertising is disclosed whereby an advertising message is incorporated into a scuba checklist article in order to provide a means for commercial advertisers to target market products and services to divers and diving enthusiasts. The checklist article is designed to be retained and re-used on each dive, and therefore, the advertisement message, which is permanently incorporated into the checklist article, is reinforced.

Abstract: A bookbinding system and method of binding books including a cover/spine assembly having a relatively rigid cover section with a length and width at least as great as that of the stack of sheets to be bound and a spine section having a width greater than the height of the stack. The cover/spine assembly and the spine section are secured together along the length of the cover section so that the spine section can be folded along a first edge with respect to the cover/spine assembly. A heat activated matrix is disposed on the spine section including a central adhesive band and an outer band disposed between the central adhesive band and a second edge of the spine section. Binding is carried out by placing the stack over the cover section and folding the spine section over the edge of the stack. Preferably a second relatively rigid cover section is placed on top of the stack so that the outer adhesive band on the spine section will extend over second cover section.

A quick-release device includes a strap engaging member fixed on the lid to define a strap engagement space with an entrance for access thereinto. A non-elastic strap has a fixing section fixed to the lid, a pulling section, and a middle section which spans a distal free end of the strap engaging member. A stop member prevents movement of the pulling section into the strap engagement space. An elastic strap is mounted on the casing, and is elastically stretchable to pull the lid to a closed position. Under this condition, the elastic strap passes through the strap engaging member and pulls the middle section into the strap engagement space such that the middle section defines an inverted U-shaped portion that straddles over a portion of the elastic strap in the strap engagement space and a U-shaped portion that inversely straddles over the distal free end of the strap engaging member.
