Abstract: An apparatus for securely holding and protecting a layout of elements includes a portfolio having a first cover and a first overlay. The first overlay and the first cover are releasably cohered together, preferably utilizing magnetic forces. A loose arrangement of elements can be secured to a work surface of the first cover using the first overlay for safe storage and transport. The apparatus is used in rubber stamping design, stained-glass design, and quilting design.

Abstract: A page or book for interacting with a non-human animal is provided. In various embodiments, a book is provided comprising a cover, a plurality of pages, at least one of the plurality of pages and/or cover having at least one element is provided that is attractive to the animal's sense of sight, smell, taste, touch, and/or sound, and optionally a spine for holding the cover and the plurality of pages. The book is designed so that the animal will sustain interest in the book and interact with the reader. Abstract: A method of attaching book pages to a credit card sized cover by use of rectangular molded plastic assembly that includes, a folded molded plastic sheet and a page binder. The sheet has recessed portions that allow the thickness of a standard plastic credit card to be entrapped within the folded plastic assembly a pair of retaining blades are positioned within the folded assembly at an angle so that the blade portion is facing away from the plastic credit card. As the card is pushed into the folded plastic sheet it is prevented from being pulled out because of the blades. Each half of the folded sheet has a plurality apertures located adjacent and parallel to the living hinge. The apertures receive a spiral wire binding to retain a plurality of printed pages so that the pages form a book and the credit card sized sheet forms a book cover.

Abstract: A photo album includes a plurality of overlapped inner pages and each inner page has a first paper board and a second paper board which is located beside the first paper board. A first film is attached on two respective first surfaces of the first and second paper boards, and a second film is attached on two respective second surfaces of the first and second paper boards. Two first tape pieces and two second tape pieces are connected on the first film and the second film. Photos are adhesive on the first tape pieces and the second tape pieces connect the adjacent inner pages so as to form a combination unit. A cover unit including a top cover and a bottom cover is connected to the combination unit.

In an embodiment the media binder includes spine clamps for securing physical media where the spine clamps define an interior cavity for receiving the physical media; a datum stop for aligning the physical media, the datum stop disposed proximal to one end of the spine clamp; a tension sheet for transmitting an opening force to the spine clamp, the tension sheet affixed with the spine clamp; and a cover affixed with the tension sheet, the cover configured to open such that an opening force is applied to the spine clamp when the cover is opened from a first position to a second position.

Abstract: An easy care handbook constituted by a bound booklet containing recording pages and private information pages can be prepared by a simple method. The recording pages of the bound booklet are common for all users so that the bound booklet can be made in volume at a low price. The private pages are formed by a printable sheet having a printable side, an adhesive layer on the other side, and a detachable sheet removably attached onto the adhesive layer. Private information from a database can be printed by a printer onto the printable side prior to incorporating the printable sheet into the booklet. The detachable sheet is removed from the preprinted printable sheet and the adhesive layer is attached onto the recording page to form the private information pages.

Abstract: Oversized pages are printed and bound on one edge instead of at the center. The printed cover is also bound to the pages at the same edge. The pages are folded in half as a group. The cover has been engineered to have enough space to go around the pages completely including two scored folds which imitate a book spine.

The binding mechanically couples the front cover, the rear cover and the pages together. The cover (12) consists of a unitary hexagonal sheet of pliable material such as “SPANDEX”, having extended upper and lower edges, with each edge bisected by a slot (32) of predetermined width that extends orthogonally. Fold lines (34, 36 and 38) form a laterally-extended rectangle, with the side fold lines (38) forming the lateral apices of the hexagon two triangular flap portions (20) of the cover pockets. The in-folded upper and lower flap portions of the hexagon are attached to each other and to the triangular side flap portions, to form the pocket portion (25), with lock stitching (27) at the innermost juncture by the spine opening. A central top and bottom fold-over engages the spine of the book in stabilizing relation. The unitary hexagonal blanks can be economically mass produced from roll material (40).

Front and rear ground-engaging wheels are rotatably mounted on the center chassis page whereby the vehicle-shaped book is rollable on the front and rear ground-engaging wheels.

Abstract: A fireproof album for storing valuable items such as photographs, coins, stamps, and the like includes a fireproof shell defining a cavity. A plurality of releasable connectors retain photos, collectible items or other valuables in the cavity. The shell may include three rigid fireproof shell components that are pivotably interconnected by a pair of hinges to provide ready access to the items stored in the photo album.

Abstract: A flat sheet of paper, or other thin flexible material, has information printed on one side in the form of a plurality of discrete panels or areas of text or images, while the entire other side is taken up by a large-scale, poster-like pattern. The panels or areas of text or images, are defined by crease lines created by folding the sheet of material. These creases are formed using a perpendicular fold method described in detail in this application. Each fold is perpendicular to the previous fold, creating a grid-like pattern, with each panel in the grid pattern containing a discrete quantity of text or images. When the invention is at its most folded state it has a relatively compact size. As the invention is unfolded, the panels of text or images are revealed in a specific sequence in order to tell a story or communicate some other type of sequentially ordered information.

Abstract: The invention relates to a sheet-retaining system for securing sheets on a sheet carrier, in particular for securing paper sheets in a cover, having a retaining and connecting device for securing at least one sheet at the sheet edge and for connecting the at least one sheet to the sheet carrier indirectly via the retaining and connecting device. The exposed frame member may be convex, recessed to receive rivet heads, and may be plated. The hinge plate(s) may have curls which interfit with alternate curls from the shield to provide a hinge. The ring assembly may be mounted in the notebook or binder so that the shield side of the ring assembly faces the front cover of the binder. The pivot line between the shield and the hinge plate may be spaced from the shield by a clearance distance. The notebook or binder lies flat on an underlying surface with either the front cover of the rear cover folded under the assembly.

Abstract: A binder for receiving and retaining papers includes first and second strips slidably connected to one another. Each strip includes spaced-apart fingers extending upwardly therefrom. The fingers of the first and second strips are offset from one another when the first and second strips are in a closed position. The first and second strips include releasable locking catches to retain the strips in a closed position, and release tabs for selectively moving the second strip into the open position. A cover having living hinges is attached to a lower surface of the first strip. The cover may include pockets on an outer surface thereof for accepting inserts, such as file hangers or printed labels.

Abstract: A system for binding books includes a flexible binding material in the form of a stud having top and bottom caps. The stud is inserted into signature staples that protrude from the body of the signature to form stud holes. The binding material can be any material that is extremely flexible, including silicone, metals, etc., as long as it allows the signatures to open in a lay-flat manner either at the signature interfaces or in the body of any signature. The flexible binding material can also be used to temporarily bind pre-punched pages of a book by inserting the flexible binding material into the pre-punched holes to facilitate lay-flat opening of the book.

Abstract: Included is a flap board book having at least one page constructed of a first piece of grayback board and a second piece of grayback board wherein each piece of grayback board has a front and a back side. Each front side includes a coating adapted to accept printing. The first piece of grayback board includes a rotateably attached section positioned to allow viewing of a portion of the backside of the first piece of the grayback board and a portion of the backside of the second piece of grayback board. The portion of the backside of the first piece of the grayback board and the portion of the backside of the second piece of the grayback board includes a flashing adapted to accept printing ink. In this invention, only the portion of the back of each grayback board piece has been flashed, or treated. This treatment enables these portions, and only these portions on the flashed side of each piece, to properly accept printing ink.

Abstract: An optical storage media management system and process for storing and organizing a relatively large collection of optical discs in the form of a display binder with a plurality of display sheets including associated indicia matching a positional identifier indicating the location of the disc. Abstract: A children's book having three-dimensional puppet elements that may appear coordinated with a variety of different characters with a variety of different facial expressions on each page of the book including the cover. Various characters and facial expressions are made possible because the three-dimensional puppet element appears in two parts with an illustratable gap in-between the two elements. With appropriate surrounding artwork, a unique and new three-dimensional effect is created which has never before been seen in a book. A reader can hold the book and animate the puppet elements with a right hand while turning the pages of the book with a left hand.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a photo journal scrapbook which combines the attributes of a photo album, a scrapbook, and a journal in a single book. The book has a number of pages, a front and back cover, and a binder to hold the binder and pages together. The book may also include pocket pages to include larger items, and can be supplemented by the addition of pop-in pages by the user. Each page of the photo journal scrapbook has two different sides so that when the photo journal scrapbook is opened, frames for displaying photographs are present on one page, while lines with text prompts are present on the other page. This facilitates the inclusion of textual description alongside the included photographs. The photo journal scrapbook also utilizes variable size frames that can be altered to fit photographs of a variety of sizes.

Abstract: A one-piece report cover and improved binding structure. The report cover has a front panel, spine and back panel. The improved binding structure comprises a male connector panel, female connector panel and binding element. The female panel has an aperture for receiving and retaining a tab shaped portion of the male panel located between fastening means fastening the female panel to the back panel and a plurality of integrally formed hinges for folding the panel about an edge of a document. The binding element fixes the relationship between the female panel, document and male panel thereby preventing disengagement of the tab portion from the female panel aperture during use. The document may be removed from the improved binding structure by removing the male panel tab portion from the female panel aperture allowing access to the binding element for disassembly. The improved binding structure allows reuse without damage to the components.

Abstract: A binding structure for binding together sheets of paper having multiple openings along a margin thereof is provided. The structure comprises a male connector panel having multiple openings along its edge and a female connector panel fastened to the back panel of a one-piece report cover by means of adhesive, extending adjacent and parallel to the second hinge and distanced to allow enough room for the tab-shape on the male connector panel to be inserted to the center opening of the female connector panel without interfering with the adhesion of the female connector panel to the back panel of the cover. An elongated binding element is provided extending adjacent and parallel to the margin of the sheets of paper and the male connector panel edge. The male connector panel is disposed on a bottom side of the elongated binding element. A one-piece report cover is provided having a front panel, a center spine panel, a back panel, a first hinge and a second hinge.

Abstract: Album pages for storing cards securely in place without slipping are disclosed. The album pages comprise a pocket located on a backing sheet. In a further embodiment, the pages comprise a sleeve located on the opposite side from the pocket. When a card mounted within the inventive album pages, the cards are securely retained within the pages and do not slide. The cards can be any type of generally flat items, such as photographs, greeting cards, invitations, or postcards. The invention also comprises an album page containing the inventive pages.

Abstract: An object resembling the cover of a hardbound book comprises two panels connected by a spine. The outside hinge configuration of the invention prevents the spine from collapsing, even if there are no contents between the two panels. The invention lends itself to a wide variety of book-like products (e.g., a book-like holder for a compact disc and accompanying booklet) where the contents are of changing width (thickness) or where the spine must be of a specific width, irrespective of the width of the contents, and further allows for a binding for a book to be fabricated prior to assembly or insertion of its pages. A hinged cover consistent with the invention comprises a spine and two rigid panels, each panel coupled to the spine and disposed rotatably with respect to the spine, and the spine serves as a hinge stop for each rigid panel, such that each panel, when rotated toward the other panel, is constrained from rotating substantially beyond 90 degrees with respect to the spine.

Abstract: In a binder such as a window binder having two opaque thermoplastic sheets sandwiching therebetween front and rear panels, a spine panel, and an outer clear panel forming a window over the spine panel and the front and rear panels, the spine has a depression or slot for receiving a spine label without substantial friction that would inhibit the insertion and removal of the spine label. The spine panel may either be sandwiched between the two opaque sheets, or it may be disposed on the outside of both of the opaque sheets, and the slot may be either open or closed at the side that faces the label printing. When disposed on the outside of the opaque sheets, the spine panel may be colored to provide a colored spine for an otherwise white or differently colored window binder.
