  • Publication number: 20140044899
Abstract: A method of joining parts with an electromagnetic joining process and an assembly made according to the process. Seals are assembled to a first part and a second part is assembled over the first part and the seals. A lubricant is applied to the first part between the seals to preoccupy or partially fill the area within the joint to prevent moisture from penetrating into the joint and causing corrosion. A portion of the second part is deformed into recesses formed in the first part to join the first and second parts.

Abstract: In a method for fabricating a heat exchanger, a metal body includes a bore and inlet and outlet connectors fitted to the body at respective inlet and outlet ends of the bore. The connectors each include an inner surface in which annular grooves are formed. A tube is inserted in the bore such that inlet and outlet ends of the tube are respectively located in the inlet and outlet connectors. A mandrel is operated to expand at least a portion of the tube into contact with the body, and to expand the inlet and outlet tube ends into contact with the grooves of the inlet and outlet connectors, respectively. The heat exchanger provides improved thermal exchange efficiency between the tube and the body, and fluid-tight connections between the tube and the inlet and outlet connectors.

Abstract: A method for forming a wheel bearing apparatus where the end portion of the cylindrical portion is pre-formed as a cylinder prior to its plastic deformation to form the caulking portion. A caulking tool with a punch and a swing shaft abuts against the end portion of the cylinder at a predetermined inclined angle relative to the inner circumferential surface of the cylinder. Teeth on the punch form the face-spline by plastically deforming the end face of the caulking portion. The swing shaft central axis is inclined at an angle relative to a central axis of the wheel hub. The face-spline is formed simultaneously with the formation of the caulking portion by advancing the caulking tool toward the wheel hub. Furthermore, the method includes clinching the crimped, displaced section by driving the second punch in a second direction that is opposite to the first direction.

Abstract: A fastening method is provided. The fastening method includes providing a first fastener member and a second fastener member. The first fastener member is provided with a base and at least one holder on an upper surface of the base. At least one through hole is formed on the base with a dovetail-shaped cross-section. The second fastener member is provided with a body, and is chiseled to form at least one deformable protrusion portion on the body. The protrusion portion is then inserted through the through hole from the bottom surface of the base to the upper surface of the base, and then extending beyond the upper surface of the base. An external force is applied on the protrusion portion to deform the protrusion portion for checking in the dovetail-shaped through hole, thus fixing the first fastener member and the second fastener member together.
