  • Patent number: 7784166
Abstract: A coupling device for connecting tools with different configuration to a driving mechanism. The coupling device may have a longitudinal axis, a first clamping device which may engage a tool with a peg-shaped clamping segment and a second clamping device which may engage a tool with a generally flat portion. The coupling device may be used to connect a tool to a drive shaft which may be attached to a motor. The tools may be locked or unlocked relative to the coupling device by sliding a sleeve along the axis of the coupling device. The sleeve may be biased in a locked position by biasing means such as a spring. The coupling device may be configured so that the first and second tool may be prevented from rotating and/or moving axially with respect to the drive shaft.

Abstract: A hand saw includes a saw blade, a handle, and a blade carrier. The saw further includes a blade clamp assembly having a locking member that removably couples the saw blade to the blade carrier so that the saw blade pivots with the blade carrier about a pivot axis. An actuating button is manually movable generally transverse to a longitudinal axis of the saw blade by the user between an engaged position and a disengaged position. In the engaged position, the actuating button engages the blade carrier to retain the blade carrier and the saw blade in one of an extended position and a folded position. In the disengaged position, the actuating button is disengaged from the blade carrier so that the blade carrier and the saw blade can be pivoted between the extended and the folded positions of the saw blade.

  • Patent number: 7739801
Abstract: An undercut saw including a housing, a motor within said housing, a drive shaft rotated by said motor, and a blade mount mechanically linked to said shaft such that a circular saw blade mounted on said mount is rotated when the motor rotates the drive shaft. A fixed blade guard circumscribes a portion of the blade and allows selectable height adjustment of the blade. A stabilization bar on the fixed blade guard may be extended to make the device more stable. On the underside of the fixed blade guard a dust channel allows dust to be swept by the rotating blade into a dust port. The dust channel allows positioning of the dust port away from the leading edges of the fixed blade guard.

Abstract: A combined saw blade and measuring device, or ruler. The saw blade includes a measuring device, or ruler, manufactured as an integrated component of the blade. In this case the ruler is marked, or etched, on the saw blade such that the blade acts as a ruler and straight edge. The ruler is marked on the horizontal edge opposite the saw teeth and runs the length of the saw blade. In this manner there is no need for adjunct attachments to the blade that act as measuring device or the use of a separate measuring device, or ruler, for the purpose of measuring the length of material to be cut. This design eliminates the need for a separate measuring device and therefore simplifies the process of measuring and cutting lengths of material.

  • Patent number: 6578268
Abstract: A hand tool includes a replaceable cutting portion having an elongate cutting surface, a body and a handle. The body receives displaceable protecting apparatus for shielding the cutting surface of the cutting portion when not in use. A forward distal end of the protecting apparatus contacts a portion of the surface of the object to be cut such that when pressure is applied against the object surface displacement of the protecting apparatus relative to the replaceable cutting portion is effected to expose only as much of the cutting surface as needed to effect the required cut. Alignment means maintain alignment of the replaceable cutting portion relative to the protecting apparatus throughout the cutting. When the cutting action is completed resilience means facilitates return of the protecting apparatus so the cutting surface is no longer exposed.

  • Patent number: 6463663
Abstract: A folding saw in which either the edge of the blade, the handle or both are curved, to prevent the edge of the blade from being exposed when blade is folded so that the saw can be handled safely. The protective cover in which the edge of the blade can be nestled is placed inside the housing groove of the handle having a semi-U-shaped cross section for housing the blade. The protective cover is retractable with respect to the housing groove, and when the blade is folded, projects out of the housing groove and covers the edge, which may be exposed. The protective cover is preferably energized by a spring so that it covers the edge whenever the blade is folded.

Abstract: A protective cover (4) for a folding saw in which the edge (1a) of the blade (1) can be nestled in place inside the housing groove (3) of the handle (2) having a semi-U-shaped cross section for housing the blade (1) in such a way that it is pivotally movable around the top end of the handle. A pivotal control lever (5 ) disposed at the bottom end of the handle (2) has a portion engaged with the tip of the protective cover (4). The protective cover (4) can be inserted into, and retracted from, the housing groove (3) of the handle (2) by the pivotal operation of the control lever (5). In this way, the protective cover (4) covers the edge (1a) of the blade (1) that is exposed from the housing groove (3).

  • Patent number: 6427573
Abstract: A saw blade has a plurality of teeth with each tooth formed by a beveled gullet forming a trailing face, a beveled gullet forming a leading face and a planar surface forming a curved cutting face. The gullets forming the trailing face and the leading face are beveled in opposite directions. The planar surface is generally parallel to the beveled trailing face. The unique tooth profile provides a saw tooth having a positive rake angle to significantly improve the strength of the tooth. The method of manufacturing of the unique tooth profile begins by orienting a saw blade blank about three axes and performing a first grinding operation which forms every other tooth gullet and every other planar surface. The partially formed blank is then oriented about two of the three axes in an opposite direction and a second grinding operation is performed. The second grinding operation grinds the remaining gullets and planar surfaces.

Abstract: The flush cut power saw comprises a framework having a base plate with a saw blade slot extending through two risers located at one end of the base plate. At least two rods slidably receive a movable housing for supporting a motor at a location above the cutting blade. The motor is secured to a transmission to convert the rotary motion of the motor to a reciprocating, linear motion. The transmission is connected to a saw blade mounting apparatus, which linearly reciprocates a cutting blade, which adjustably extends below the mounting plate. The cutting blade may be adjustably positioned with an adjustable stop for depth in vertical alignment with the framework. The transmission reciprocally biases the cutting blade, enabling the cutting blade to reciprocally travel linearly in relation with the movable housing, to complete a cut flush with an adjoining surface, while controlling the depth of cut.
