  • Patent number: 5109206
Abstract: A balanced L-section low-pass common mode filter is connected in series with balanced data I/O lines to remove common mode signals from balanced line difference mode signals. The filter includes input and output series transformers configured so that the magnetic fields in the transformers are subtractive for out-of-phase difference mode signals and additive for in-phase common mode signals and a shunt transformer coupled to ground configured so that the magnetic fields in the transformer are additive for out-of-phase difference mode signals and subtractive for in-phase common mode signals. Accordingly, the difference mode signals are not attenuated and common mode signals react to a short circuit to ground and are thereby attenuated by the filter.

Abstract: A trap filter assembly of the type employed with a video cable system to block a particular band of video frequencies has a housing formed as a generally rectangular block of square cross-section, made of cast aluminum or other suitable material. A cavity formed in the housing has first and second compartments which are separated from one another by a pair of barrier walls that define therebetween a channel passageway that extends from one corner of the first cavity compartment to a laterally opposite corner of the second cavity compartment. This prevents any direct line of sight signal path for stray video signals between the first and second compartments. First and second printed circuit filter boards are mounted in the compartments, preferably by a threaded fastener which mounts the boards onto respective pedestals in the compartments. • Patent number: 4725739
Abstract: An AC branch power distribution filter is provided for supplying AC power to a plurality of different load devices from a common external AC power source that eliminates the need for a separate protection device at each power outlet with the load devices. A plurality of elongate, flat conductors are coupled to the AC power source and include a neutral conductor, a ground conductor and at least one live conductor. The elongate flat conductors are parallel and spaced apart in an electrically insulated casing member. An electrically conductive shield member is electrically connected to the ground conductor and extends lengthwise of the elongate flat conductors overlying the insulative casing member. The shield member provides a shunt capacitance between ground potential and each of the live conductors and the neutral conductor. This distributed capacitance is utilized as the shunt element of the distribution filter.

Abstract: An apparatus for filtering radio frequency interference from digital signals. The filter uses a resistor, an inductor and a capacitor to provide a filter with a broad bandwidth capable of passing high frequency digital signals, while severely attenuating radio frequencies coupled to the digital signals. The filter is used primarily in conjunction with an electronic control to filter input signals to the control from remote sensors.

  • Patent number: 4714905
Abstract: A microwave bandpass filter for frequencies in the range of 30-3000 MHz comprises a substrate formed from dielectric ceramic sheets fused together and stacked according to a dielectric constant required of the filter capacitors, the plates of which are formed on the substrate. Discrete air core coils, to provide greater frequency selectivity in this particular frequency range, are attached into the circuit on a top surface of the substrate, and a drawn metal can covers the circuitry on the top surface and is soldered to a metallized coating extending over substantially all of the rest of the substrate except for surface mounting lead portions and associated conductive paths. Thus, EMI and RFI shielding is provided by the combination of the metal can and the ground plane of the circuit.

  • Patent number: 4710735
Abstract: Absorption circuits (C.sub.f,L.sub.F) are used for filtering out unwanted harmonic currents in electric lines (R, S, T), particularly for rated power within the range of 1 MVar-1 GVar, for example in the case of high-voltage direct-current transmission systems. So that the absorption circuit holds the virtual capacitance of the filter capacitor circuit (C.sub.f) at its rated value at a tuned frequency even when one or more capacitors (C11, C21, C12, C22) fail, a compensating choke (L) is provided in the cross branch of an "H" circuit of the capacitors. The capacitance of each capacitor (C11 . . . C22) is equal to the total capacitance C of the filter capacitor circuit (C.sub.f). The inductance L of the compensating choke (L) is equal to 1/.omega..sup.2 C, where .omega.=angular frequency of the harmonic. The compensating choke (L) can be designed for 5%-10% of the power of the filter choke (L.sub.F).

  • Patent number: 4701726
Abstract: A trap filter assembly, of the type which can be employed with a video cable system to block a particular channel or band of channels and pass the remaining video signal, is formed of a circuit board, a centrally-disposed cylindrical ground block, and a housing formed of male and female housing halves which are press-fit over the circuit board onto the ground block. The housing halves form a solderless connection with the ground block, and the latter forms a solderless connection with ground pads on the printed circuit board. A slot cut in the cylindrical ground block receives the printed circuit board, and a zig-zag channel structure formed in one wall of the slot permits a zig-zag signal lead to extend from one end of the printed circuit board through a ground area of the board, to the other end thereof.

  • Patent number: 4673900
Abstract: The invention provides a novel attachment for a discoid capacitor and the like to the inside of a tubular casing and to a central lead. An electrically insulating sealing element is positioned below the capacitor during assembly vertically into the casing. The element fits closely about the lead and is deformed into contact with the wall of the housing about the capacitor. The element thus forms a dam to contain solder and flux used to couple the capacitor to the lead and to the casing from above the capacitor so that the solder and flux cannot pass by the capacitor into undesirable locations below the capacitor.

  • Patent number: 4646258
Abstract: An N-path filter has a number N of parallel resistive-capacitive filter sections. A switching arrangement connects each filter section periodically into an input signal path through the filter. The switching arrangement also triggers a sample and hold network to sample the filtered input signal for a portion of the time each filter section is connected into the input signal path through the filter and then hold the sampled, filtered input signal. The sampling time is preferably selected to be an initial portion of the time each filter section is connected as the signal path through the filter when variations in the charging rates of the capacitors in the filter sections have the least effect. The sampled N-path filter technique thus reduces the need to match the filter section components.
