Natural Color Facsimile Patents (Class 358/500)
  • Patent number: 9049403
Abstract: An embodiment implements a methodology for printing non-saturated text and lines in a way that removes the jagged edge problem. An embodiment uses a combination of two screens, e.g. AM screening and applying pure color. For example, according to the embodiment, the closer to the edge from the interior of text or lines, the less amplitude modulation half toning is applied and the more actual color or contone is applied. A particular algorithm for determining and using a blending parameter is provided.

Abstract: A color conversion method, medium, and apparatus, converting a color temperature of an image to a user-set color temperature, on a pixel-by-pixel basis, based on the brightness of each pixel of the image. The color temperature conversion method may include determining a first information associated with a conversion range, determining whether the color temperature of the input pixel needs to be converted by determining, based on the first information, whether the input pixel is within the conversion range, calculating color coordinates of a target point if the input pixel is within the conversion range, and converting the color temperature of the input pixel by moving, in the same direction as the reference point to the target point an amount proportional to the reference point displacement so that the input pixel can be automatically moved along with the reference point of the conversion range.

  • Patent number: 8982417
Abstract: An image processing apparatus includes a color conversion processing unit, a modulation difference creating unit, a color value modulating unit, and an output unit. The color conversion processing unit performs color conversion from an input color value of a target image to a corresponding output color value to obtain a tentative output color value. The modulation difference creating unit creates modulation differences. The modulation differences include combinations that are obtained by either setting or not setting a value equivalent to the minimum resolution of the tentative output color value for each color component of the tentative output color value. The color value modulating unit performs modulation on the tentative output color value by adding or subtracting a modulation difference selected at random to or from the tentative output color value. The output unit outputs the target image according to the color value obtained after modulation.

A light source, such as an array of light-emitting diodes (LEDs), may be modulated in order to maintain a constant exposure for each scan-line, regardless of the document velocity. Accordingly, the present systems and methods allow for continuous document scanning at varying speeds. An automatic document feeder may dynamically adjust the velocity of a document without negatively impacting the exposure of the image scan. As the velocity of the document is changed, the modulation rate of the light source may be adjusted to maintain a constant exposure.

Abstract: A method for calculating characterization data of a printing process, is more manageable and less complicated than previously-known methods, in which determining printing tables for CMYK printing systems with special colors or for multicolor systems easily becomes unwieldy and complicated because of necessary colored areas in test elements. A test element supplies actual spectral data. By using subsets of this actual data, tonal value curves or tonal value gain curves, parameters of a model of the printing process for determining spectra of overprinted printing inks and adapted input variables, are determined in a calculating device in accordance with the model, taking into account the tonal value gain, to determine corrected tonal values or their spectra. Then only a few colored areas are needed to calculate characterization data. Abstract: The present invention provides for determining a gamut boundary description for a color device, the color device being characterized at least by a destination transform which converts colors from a device-independent color space to a device-dependent color space and which reports out-of-gamut colors. A set of sample values is determined in the device-independent color space. For each of the sample values within the set of sample values, the destination transform is applied to the sample value, and in a case where the sample value is in gamut, the sample value is included within a set of gamut boundary values. The gamut boundary description is determined by forming a set of polygonal surfaces based on the set of gamut boundary values. Accordingly, a gamut boundary description is determined without necessarily having to sample additional color values as the number of colorant channels for the color device increases.

Abstract: A method for adjusting the color of an image is provided. The image includes a plurality of pixels. The method includes receiving a natural language command to adjust a selected color of at least a portion of the image; determining a selection value for a pixel of interest by comparing a location of a color of the pixel of interest within a color space to a plurality of planes defining a multi-dimensional boundary of a portion of the color space corresponding to the selected color; and adjusting, based on the natural language command, the selected color of the pixel or the pixels of at least the portion of the image determined to be within the portion of the color space corresponding to the selected color. The selection value is representative of whether the pixel of interest lies within the portion of the color space corresponding to the selected color.

  • Patent number: 8368977
Abstract: A 4×4 LUT comprises a K to K LUT merged with a CMYK to CMYK LUT with values ranging from [0, 0, 0, 0] to [0, 0, 0, 255], said 4×4 LUT written to a known file format. A method for creating 4×4 look up tables (LUTs) uses the source and destination ICC profiles. A K to K LUT is built, a CMYK to CMYK LUT is built, the K to K LUT is merged with the CMYK to CMYK LUT, and the resulting LUT is written to a known file format. Such a process is important since it solves the issue of preserving K in a CMYK to CMYK transform while adding the performance improvement of a 4×4 LUT.

Abstract: In an image forming apparatus that reads an original and forms an image of the original that has been read, a skew amount of the original is calculated when the original has been read and a shift amount of each color of image data in image formation is obtained from a storage unit. A color shift correction amount for correcting color shift in an output image is calculated based on the calculated skew amount and the stored shift amount of each color, and the color shift is corrected based on that color shift correction amount.

  • Patent number: 8289566
Abstract: A print or logo data generating system and method in which a width dimension of a printable medium is identified and original source data obtained. The processing further involves automatically resizing the source data to a predefined maximum width not greater than the width dimension of the printable medium prior to executing any user-requested changes, and displaying a first image representation of the original source data. Upon receipt of a user-requested change in the size of the original source data and a user-requested change in the number of colors of the original source data, the size change request is executed first.

  • Patent number: 8274693
Abstract: Input data in which fixed data and variable data are mixed is processed in a system in which a plate offset press for processing fixed data and a plateless digital press capable of processing variable data are connected. A number of pages of fixed data to be printed in succession by the plate offset press is acquired. When the acquired number of pages of fixed data to be printed in succession by the plate offset press does not exceed a number of pages of fixed data to be printed in succession in the input data, a first job is generated to assign, for the plate offset press, pages of fixed data in the input data. A second job is generated to assign, for the plateless digital press, the remaining input data obtained by excluding the fixed data assigned for the plate offset press from the input data.

  • Patent number: 8270048
Abstract: The present invention extends an entire reproducible gamut by generating color separation data effectively utilizing the particularly high saturation and lightness of a particular color ink. Color separation data uses three types of inks including a particular color ink red and basic color inks yellow and magenta at the maximum saturation point of a hue R. On a low-lightness side with respect to the maximum saturation point, a reproducible color space can be extended by adding a cyan ink or the like to the above inks. In a high-lightness are, the reproducible color space can be extended by using the particular color ink red. Further, the entire gamut of a low-lightness side of this hue can be extended.

  • Patent number: 8259368
Abstract: When attribute information cannot be generated from received data, image processing methods and image processing parameters are set unequivocally independently of the received data. If the same image processing methods and image processing parameters are set, processing that does not match the purpose of output or user's favor in terms of image quality may be executed. Hence, if the received data is not PDL data and does not include any interpretable attribute information, a reception print mode is checked. If “character priority” is selected for the reception print mode, attribute flag data of a character attribute is generated. If “photo priority” is selected, attribute flag data of a photo attribute is generated. If “auto” is set, automatic generation of attribute flag data is performed. When attribute flag data cannot be generated, detailed settings are checked to generate attribute flag data of a character attribute or photo attribute.
