Fault Recovery Patents (Class 370/216)
  • Patent number: 10367728
Abstract: One or both end points of the communication and a network controller of a software defined network (SDN) agree on a definition of a traffic flow that varies as a function of time, where communicating end points vary one or more fields of the packet headers at the sender side before sending the flow packets to the network according to an agreed upon procedure with the network controller. The network controller dynamically updates the forwarding tables in forwarding elements such that whenever source node transitions into the next epoch, and thus alter the header fields, a corresponding forwarding rule is already installed onto the forwarding elements along the route of the packet towards the other end point of the communication, referred to as destination node.

Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide a system that automatically detects a role of a node in a network with a layered topology. During operation, the system uses a local shortest path tree (SPT) for a node in a network with a layered topology to identify one or more additional nodes in the network that are farthest from the node. Next, the system compares the local SPT with a remote SPT for the one or more additional nodes to identify a position of the node in the layered topology. The system then outputs the position of the node for use in configuring the operation of the node in the network.

Abstract: A method, an information handling system (IHS) and a switching system for preventing communication loops in an IHS. The method includes identifying, via a controller, at least one stacking port in a first switch of a first chassis. The first switch is in communication with a second switch of a second chassis via a first link. At least one stacking port is configured as an unblocked port. Port blocking and unblocking actions are determined for the at least one stacking port. The at least one stacking port is configured based on the determined port blocking and unblocking actions and a determination is made if the first chassis is a root bridge chassis having at least one uplink port. In response to the first chassis being a root bridge chassis, a first uplink port in the first switch is configured as an unblocked port.

Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system for content exchange in an information-centric network (ICN). During operation, a first node in the ICN receives an interest for a piece of content from a second node. The interest indicates a name of the piece of content and an incoming identifier assigned to the interest by the second node. The system identifies a matching entry in an identifier table stored on the first node that corresponds to the incoming identifier. The matching entry indicates a next-hop neighbor and an outgoing identifier. The system then updates the interest by replacing the incoming identifier with the outgoing identifier, and forwards the updated interest to the next-hop neighbor.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described to proactively adapt media streaming by a number of media player clients over a network. Each media player requests segments of an adaptive media stream for playback. In implementations, some or all of the media players in the system are able to measure packet loss or other indicia of issues with the data transmission. This indicia can be used to adapt subsequent requests for additional segments of the media stream. Moreover, some implementations could provide the measured packet loss or other indicia to the server as feedback. The server, in turn, can use the feedback from the players (along with any other additional information) to formulate business rules subsequently delivered to some or all of the players in the system. The media players can therefore adapt their segment request based upon locally measured data and/or based upon business rules that reflect system-wide conditions.

According to a broad aspect, an upload request message is sent from the wireless device to the cooperating nodes in the CoMP set for uploading the data file to the network node, and based on an upload grant from at least one cooperating node, a plurality of piece messages are sent to the cooperating nodes for transmission to the network node, each piece message containing a particular piece of the data file. In yet another broad aspect, both a coordinating node and non-coordinating nodes in the CoMP set are configured to receive piece messages. Non-coordinating nodes that receive piece messages send acknowledgement messages to the coordinating node indicating which pieces have been received.

Abstract: A plurality of management cards including an active card and a standby card are provided. The active card determines open or block of a ring port in accordance with an event based on a ring protocol, issues an open instruction or a block instruction to a line card, and notifies a block factor in addition to the block instruction when issuing the block instruction. The line card controls open or block of the ring port in accordance with the open instruction or the block instruction and retains open/block information of the ring port and a block factor of the block state in a port management table. When the standby card is changed to the active card in accordance with a predetermined change instruction, it acquires the information retained in the port management table from the line card.

  • Patent number: 10250492
Abstract: A connection-oriented network has a working path and a segment recovery path for a segment of the working path. The working path has a branch node at an end of the segment where the segment recovery path connects to the working path. The branch node is not located at an end node of the working path. Control plane signalling is received at an end node of the working path from a node along the working path, indicating that a failure has occurred along the working path. The end node determines, from the received control plane signalling, if the failure has occurred outside the segment of the working path. When it is determined that the failure has occurred outside the segment of the working path, a notification is sent to the branch node. The notification is an instruction not to reroute to the segment recovery path.

Abstract: Disclosed aspects relate to service interface topology management for a shared pool of configurable computing resources. A management engine may detect a first linkage error event for a first set of data traffic with respect to a first service interface cable which connects a first global service processor with a set of hardware devices. A second service interface cable which connects a second global service processor with the set of hardware devices may be sensed. Based on and in response to the first linkage error event for the first set of data traffic, the management engine may determine to access the set of hardware devices by utilizing the second service interface cable. The first set of data traffic may be routed to the set of hardware devices via the second service interface cable.

Abstract: Described herein are a method and a system for extracting issues based on ticket mining. In one implementation, a plurality of tickets comprising descriptions of the issues in computing systems are received. The received descriptions are then cleaned by removing unwanted details. Upon cleaning, the clean descriptions are mapped with descriptions stored in service catalog data to obtain unmapped clean descriptions. In an example, the unmapped clean descriptions include one of user-generated descriptions, system-generated descriptions, and both the user-generated descriptions and the system-generated descriptions. For the user-generated descriptions; the issues are extracted by pre-processing the user-generated descriptions, determining keywords from the processed unmapped clean descriptions, constructing n-grams of keywords from the extracted keywords, and extracting the n-grams of keywords as the issues present in the computing systems.

Abstract: Network hardware devices organized in a wireless mesh network (WMN) in which one network hardware devices includes a first radio and a second radio coupled to a processing device. The processing device receives a request from a client consumption device via the first radio and determines a destination for the request as a second mesh network device. The processing device access a master routing table to determine that the second radio is to forward the request and forwards the request to the second radio. The second radio accesses a local routing table at the second radio to determine that a radio of a third mesh network device is a next-hop mesh network device in a first path to the second mesh network device. The second radio sends the request to the radio of the third mesh network device.

  • Patent number: 10230849
Abstract: A Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) apparatus or system includes a call control agent that is configured and arranged to perform a number of functions. The call control agent is configured to receive a connection request for a VoIP call and then accesses a list of media-relay servers (MRSs) that are located at geographically disparate locations relative to one another. The call control agent can execute a selection algorithm that processes variables for the MRSs in the list. In response to the selection algorithm, the call control agent is configured to select a particular MRS from the list. In response to the selection, the call control agent can then direct an endpoint to route audio media for the VoIP call through the particular MRS. The call control agent also is configured to maintain a call state for the VoIP call while the voice media is routed through the particular MRS.
