Abstract: Provided is a rolled copper foil or electrolytic copper foil for an electronic circuit to be used for forming a circuit by etching, wherein the rolled copper foil or the electrolytic copper foil comprises a nickel alloy layer with lower etching rate than copper, which is formed on an etching side of the copper foil, and the nickel alloy layer contains zinc. This invention aims to prevent sagging caused by the etching, to form a uniform circuit having the intended circuit width, and to shorten the time of forming a circuit by etching as much as possible, when forming a circuit by etching a copper foil of the copper-clad laminate; and also aims to make the thickness of the nickel alloy layer as thin as possible, to inhibit oxidation when exposed to heat, to prevent tarnish (discoloration) known as “YAKE”, to improve the etching properties in pattern etching, and to prevent the occurrence of short circuits and defects in the circuit width.

Abstract: Disclosed is a structural material using novel, high-purity aluminum, which is produced by using fine aluminum powder as the material, as well as a method for manufacturing such structural material. A processed aluminum material having the properties of an aluminum structural material constituted by aluminum, aluminum carbide and unavoidable impurities except aluminum and aluminum carbide is characterized in that a material obtained by uniformly dispersing stearic acid in fine aluminum powder is filled in an L-shaped bent die, and pressures are applied to the material from one direction and the other direction of the die wherein the pressure applied to the material from the one direction of the die is greater than the pressure applied to the material from the other direction of the die, to cause the material to pass through a hole of the L-shaped bent die so that the material is given and accumulates giant strain, and this process is performed continuously.

  • Patent number: 7316057
Abstract: A method (20) of fabricating a large component such as a gas turbine or compressor disk (32) from segregation-prone materials such as Alloy 706 or Alloy 718 when the size of the ingot required is larger than the size that can be predictably formed without segregations using known triple melt processes. A sound inner core ingot (12) is formed (22) to a first diameter (D1), such as by using a triple melt process including vacuum induction melting (VIM), electroslag remelting (ESR), and vacuum arc remelting (VAR). Material is than added (26) to the outer surface (16) of the core ingot to increase its size to a dimension (D2) required for the forging operation (28). A powder metallurgy or spray deposition process may be used to apply the added material. The added material may have properties that are different than those of the core ingot and may be of graded composition across its depth. This process overcomes ingot size limitations for segregation-prone materials.

Abstract: The invention provides a method for manufacturing an automotive component member, including the steps of: (A) positioning at least one insert into a mold, wherein the insert defines a plurality of holes; and (B) casting a portion of the automotive component member in the mold to substantially encapsulate the insert such that a major portion of the insert is substantially non-bonded with the casting material to provide a proper interfacial boundary with the casting material for damping. The method may include the step of coating the insert to prevent bonding between the insert and the casting material. A damped automotive component member having an insert cast therein is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7063814
Abstract: A method for cutting steel includes heating a portion of the steel until it is molten, positioning a cutting torch to have a high angle of incidence relative to the molten steel, and blasting high pressure oxygen at the molten metal. The blast of high pressure oxygen further heats the molten metal and blows the molten metal away from the steel to create a cutting trench. The cutting torch is then moved generally parallel to the cutting method includes a cutting torch that emits a high pressure combustible gas and a high pressure combustion enhancing gas. The torch directs the high pressure gases at the steel so that the gases hit the steel at an acute angle of attack. An automated device propels the torch in the general direction of the desired cut. The resultant cut metal product has at least one edge with a grain pattern that is not perpendicular to the direction of cut.

  • Patent number: 6991856
Abstract: Reactive foils and their uses are provided as localized heat sources useful, for example, in ignition, joining and propulsion. An improved reactive foil is preferably a freestanding multilayered foil structure made up of alternating layers selected from materials that will react with one another in an exothermic and self-propagating reaction. Upon reacting, this foil supplies highly localized heat energy that may be applied, for example, to joining layers, or directly to bulk materials that are to be joined. This foil heat-source allows rapid bonding to occur at room temperature in virtually any environment (e.g., air, vacuum, water, etc.). If a joining material is used, the foil reaction will supply enough heat to melt or soften the joining material, which upon cooling will form a strong bond, joining two or more bulk materials.
