Patent number: 6303236Abstract: A method for manufacturing an aluminum-based composite plate is disclosed. The method comprises the step of producing an aluminum-based composite billet. The billet production step includes reducing, by magnesium nitride, an oxide-based ceramic as a porous molded body. The reduced oxide-based ceramic has improved wettability. An aluminum alloy is then caused to infiltrate into porous sections of the reduced oxide-based ceramic to thereby provide the aluminum-based composite billet. The billet is extrusion molded into a flat plate form by using an extrusion press. Plates of desired shapes are punched from the molded flat plate by using a press.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 2000Date of Patent: October 16, 2001Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Yasuhiro Nakao, Hiroto Shoji, Kunitoshi Sugaya, Takashi Kato, Takaharu Echigo

Patent number: 5001017Abstract: The invention is directed to an expandable metal product for use in extinguishing surface fires. Rolled, unexpanded continuous sheets of magnesium alloy foil are transported to the site of a fire and stretched over the surface of the fire to extinguish it. This invention also is directed to using the expanded product in the form of an ellipsoid to promote nestling in fuel containers.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 1989Date of Patent: March 19, 1991Inventors: Shaikh G. M. Y. Alhamad, Sami I. Altikan

Patent number: 4997721Abstract: An improved blank base and method of making a bird repellant structure. The method comprises forming slots into a continuous base strip for the formation of repellant members. Said repellant members have a single forward diagonal edge for the simple cutting of repellant barbs.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 1990Date of Patent: March 5, 1991Assignee: Cat Claw, Inc.Inventors: Theodore W. Patent number: 4977037Abstract: Disclosed herein is an improved new product and a process for its manufacture. The new product is a continuous cast steel bar having improved surface quality when compared to prior art continuous cast steel bars. The improved product is produced by means of a continuous casting machine of the known type having a rotating casting wheel with a peripheral groove which is closed along a portion of its length by a metal band.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 1986Date of Patent: December 11, 1990Assignee: Southwire CompanyInventors: George C. Patent number: 4923678Abstract: This invention provides improved prepregs for producing laminates and improved laminates using such prepregs. Processes for producing the prepregs and the laminates are also provided. Processes for producing the prepreg include the steps of providing a dipping solution or suspension comprising a polynorbornene polymer, a polyolefin polymer derived from C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 monomers, and a solvent followed by impregnating a non-cellulosic cloth with the solution. The solvent is removed from the cloth to form the prepreg. Printed circuit boards are also provided by a process which includes the steps of providing such a prepreg and pretreating the surface of a conductive film with a solution of a silane compound, effective to increase the bond strength between the copper foil and the prepreg, followed by laminating the prepreg to the conductive film.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 1989Date of Patent: May 8, 1990Assignee: The B. F. Goodrich CompanyInventors: George M. Benedikt, Linwood P. Tenney

Patent number: 4923734Abstract: Printed wiring boards useful for high frequency applications are obtained by laminating a conductive foil pretreated with a silane to a polynorbornene prepreg wherein a sheet of polyolefin film derived from C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 monomers is laminated between the prepreg and the foil to the surfaces of each member. The prepreg is made by impregnating a fiberglass cloth with a ring-opening polymerized polymer. The conductive foil is pretreated with a silane which is capable of improving the bond strength between the conductive foil and a norbornene copolymer.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1988Date of Patent: May 8, 1990Assignee: The B. F. Goodrich CompanyInventor: George M. Benedikt

Patent number: 4913979Abstract: A stainless steel wheel trim ring is constructed of an outer ring and a grip annulus. The outer ring is formed of a sheet metal band which is constructed from a rectangular blank having a pair of wedge shaped strain relief notches in a longitudinal edge adjacent to each end. The blank is welded at the joined ends to form the band. During manufacture, the band is expanded in the order of 25% at the longitudinal edge. A crimped peripheral bead along the longitudinal edge secures the grip annulus to the outer ring.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1989Date of Patent: April 3, 1990Assignee: Del-Met CorporationInventor: Michael H.
