Abstract: The present invention provides a continuously variable belt pulley transfer system that addresses prior deficiencies with CVT-type systems, particularly when used with accessory drive systems. The continuously variable belt drive system includes a driving pulley assembly and a driven pulley assembly, with a continuous belt transferring rotary motion between them. A direct electronic actuation mechanism is used for controlling ratio changes on the pulley transfer assembly. An integrated stepper motion is used as the prime mover for the mechanism. A differential planetary roller screw mechanism converts the rotary motion from the stepper motor to axial motion for actuating the sheave poison of the V-shaped belt.

Abstract: Transmission systems, assemblies, and components are described. In particular, aspects of the present disclosure relate to an infinitely variable transmission that maintains constant tooth engagement during changes in gear ratio. In one aspect, a transmission includes an axially movable sheave coupled to a chain. The sheave rotates around a drive axis. At least partially within the sheave is a set of moon gears. The moon gears orbit around the drive axis and are rotatable around respective internal axis. As the sheave moves axially, the chain and the set of moon gears move radially to define different gear ratios, with the gear ratios being changeable in infinitely small increments. A synchronization system moves the set of moon gears radially to correspond to the axial position of the sheave. A correction system optionally controls rotation of the moon gears to rotate teeth of the moon gears into alignment with the chain.

The primary and secondary sheaves of the input pulley are mounted on a first axle shaft carried by an actuator plate and the primary and secondary sheaves of the output pulley are carried on a second axle shaft carried by the actuator plate. The input shaft of the transmission carries pin mounted roller bearings which are received in skewed slots in an actuator sleeve so that the actuator sleeve is moved axially along the input shaft in response to variations in torque loading. The actuator plate is annular and includes a central circumferential groove receiving pin mounted roller bearings carried by the actuator sleeve so that the actuator plate, and the axle shafts carried thereby, undergoes the same axial movement as the actuator sleeve in response to variations in torque loading.

Abstract: Usually, the speed change control of the transmission is carried out in accordance with a real speed ratio “i” provided based on a primary pulley rotation speed “N1” and a secondary pulley rotation speed “N2”. While, when, at the time of stopping the vehicle, the real speed ratio fails to return to a value corresponding to the lowest speed position of the transmission, it is judged that there is a speed change failure. Upon this judgment, hydraulic pressures “p1” and “p2” for varying practical diameters of the primary and secondary pulleys are fixed to predetermined values “p1(old)” and “p2(old)” provided for such speed change failure.

  • Patent number: 7654926
Abstract: A continuously variable V-belt transmission basically has a driving pulley, a driven pulley and a V-belt wound around the pulleys. The frictional engagement between the pulleys and the V-belt is controlled by regulating pulley axial thrusts to the pulleys. The V-belt has a plurality of torque transmitting connected by an annular ring. A boundary-detection arrangement is provided to detect a boundary position between a first region, in which the elements are arranged without any gap therebetween, and a second region, in which the elements are arranged with a gap therebetween, along a portion of the driving pulley when torque is being transmitted. The detected boundary position is used to estimate the pulley axial thrust applied by the driving pulley against the V-belt, and to control the pulley axial thrust to a lower limit which ensures that the V-belt will not slip upon application of the maximum torque.
