  • Patent number: 4521928
Abstract: A waterbed frame construction comprising a perimeter frame made up of longitudinal and transverse channel shaped frame members which are provided with foam pad cushions along the upper side edges of the frame and the outwardly facing sides of the frame. A slot is formed in the outer peripheral vertical side of the frame to receive a tuck of an article of bedclothing to retain the bedclothing on the bed and covering the sleeping surface of the waterfilled bladder. The frame includes a substructure for supporting the bladder comprising spaced apart longitudinal beam members and a support deck. The frame may be disassembled for transport, is of superior strength due to the channel shaped perimeter beam members, and is adapted to accommodate and retain standard size sheets and blankets. The frame may be suitably supported on a standard bed sub-frame.

  • Patent number: 4514871
Abstract: A universal, convertible, padded end cap for a water bed railing permits the joining of a supplementary end rail to any of a number of available padded water bed side rail designs providing in each case a smooth, decorative, functional corner joint and seal. This cap has significant strength for retaining the rails in a rigidly locked position relative to one another during use of the bed, resisting the forces imposed by persons climbing into and out of the bed across the padded rails; it also provides a decorative and pleasing appearance, matching that of the end rails used.

  • Patent number: 4435864
Abstract: A bedding arrangement having a versatile mattress foundation which is designed to be utilized in combination with an accompanying inflatable mattress. The mattress foundation has a primary support structure for supporting a mattress and any loads imposed thereon, and a compartment is defined therein which houses an air compressor. The primary support structure includes a first area of support structure extending substantially the full height of the mattress foundation and a second area of support structure extending from the top surface of the foundation to only a portion of its full height, and the compressor compartment is positioned below the second area of support structure. The air compressor is pneumatically coupled to the inflatable mattress to provide a very convenient control over its internal pressure and resultant firmness. In one disclosed embodiment, a control panel is positioned on one side of the foundation to provide for convenient control over the compressor and mattress internal pressure.

  • Patent number: 4319370
Abstract: A base for a bed comprising (preferably two or four) light-weight thermoplastics platforms interlocked together by couplings which engage skirts and lugs depending from the platforms so as to prevent rotation of one platform relative to another. The platforms are easily separated for transport by a vertical lifting force yet they resist separation by unintentional rotational forces caused by sitting on or lifting their peripheral edges.

  • Patent number: 4251308
Abstract: A mattress includes a flexible tube having a pair of major surfaces alternating with a pair of side surfaces with marginal portions of the major surfaces extending beyond the side surfaces at each end of the tube. The marginal portions are bent toward each other and lap sealed along seams extending substantially between the side surfaces to form the end surfaces of the mattress. At each corner an insert is disposed along a line where the end surface approaches the side surface and is attached thereto by a continuous lap seam having substantially parallel sides extending substantially between the major surfaces. An associated method includes the provision of a special mandril for heat sealing the insert.

  • Patent number: 4228555
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a frame network to be used in association with a water bed to secure the bed sheets thereon defined by a pair of spaced rectangular frames disposed along the top edge of a water bed in which the top most rectangular frame pivots relative to the bottom most frame at one end of the bed, preferably along the head board. The upper frame is so constructed that the rod closest to the head board is removable and insertable within a sleeve of the bottom portion of a bed sheet, and the side edges thereon similarly have sleeves so that side rods forming a portion of the framework are threaded therethrough. The end or foot portion of the bed sheet is looped over a portion of the frame work parallel to the head board and the sheet is doubled over so as to serve as a top sheet. A pad positioned between the sheet and the mattress is affixed to the lower frame, and a further sheet which extends under the mattress is secure to the bottom edge of the lower frame.

  • Patent number: 4181991
Abstract: An improved mattress foundation particularly suited for use with foam mattresses to provide proper support for the mattress and to duplicate the feel of box springs. The mattress foundation utilizes an upper and lower frame assembly separated by a flexible, resilient material, which may be in the form of blocks, strips or slabs of flexible, resilient material, with the upper frame assembly preferably being somewhat flexible so as to be capable of deforming from its normal planar condition when subjected to more concentrated loads. The material separating the upper and lower frame assemblies are selected to have a resilience which will support the weight of one or two persons while distributed over the mattress foundation without substantial deflection, but which will deflect significantly when subjected to an individual's weight in more concentrated form, such as occurs when an individual sits on the edge of a bed or is getting into or out of the bed.
