Abstract: The present invention safety device is a one-piece needle assembly that has a base and a housing pivotally connected to the base. The base has a distal portion to which a needle is fitted. At the base there is formed longitudinally along its distal portion a catch mechanism that may be in the form of an anchor projection. At the back wall of the housing there is extended another catch mechanism that may be configured in the form of two clasping fingers. Also providing in the housing is an integral hook. As the housing and the base are pivoted relative to each other, and as the needle makes contact with the hook, the respective catch mechanisms at the base and the housing also make contact with each other, resulting in the coupling of the catch mechanisms and the coupling of the needle to the hook. As a result, the catch mechanisms are interlocked and the needle is fixedly retained by the hook within the housing.

  • Patent number: 8597255
Abstract: A packing sleeve for use with a safety needle that automatically covers a tip of a needle following removal of the needle from a patient includes a generally hollow body having a longitudinal axis and a distal end and an open proximal end. The body surrounds at least a portion of the safety needle and has at least one track having an activation leg and a releasing leg. The at least one track is in sliding engagement with at least one member of the safety needle such that the motion of a portion of the safety needle relative to the body is dictated by a path the at least one member follows along the respective at least one track. The safety needle is in an initial position when the at least one member is proximate a first end of the activation leg and in an intermediate position when the at least one member is proximate a second end of the activation leg.

  • Patent number: 8585677
Abstract: A laminar injection apparatus may include a slider layer, a needle flexibly coupled to the slider layer, a medication reservoir in fluid communication with the needle, and a needle guiding layer comprising an aperture for deflecting the needle from a substantially horizontal orientation to a substantially vertical orientation in response to moving the slider layer relative to the needle guiding layer. One or more spring layers may extend the laminar structure into an extended laminar structure. The needle may be thrust into a subject by compressing the extended laminar structure and causing the needle to protrude from the structure and penetrate a subject. In response to the compressive force on the laminar stack, medication may be forced from the medication reservoir through the needle and into the subject.

Abstract: A drug delivery assembly for use in association with an outlet port of an injection device, the assembly including a connector for association with the outlet port of the injection device, a skin interface element including a fluid flow channel in fluid connection with at least one hollow penetrating element deployed for penetrating into a biological barrier and a shield deployed to prevent inadvertent contact with said hollow penetrating element prior to use. The shield being retained in engagement with at least one of the connector and the skin interface element. The skin interface element is mechanically engaged with the connector so as to be displaceable relative to the connector between an inactive position and an active position. The motion of the skin interface element relative to the connector from the inactive position to the active position is effective to disengage retention of the shield.

  • Patent number: 8562576
Abstract: A surgical tissue therapy device includes a sealant layer and a collection chamber. The sealant layer functions so as to create a sealed enclosure or space between it and the surface of a patient by forming, preferably, an airtight seal around a surgical area of skin trauma. The closed incision tissue therapy device also comprises a collection chamber, which may comprise an elongate tubular chamber with a plurality of longitudinally spaced openings. The collection chamber may be configured to be in fluid communication with the sealant layer and the area of skin trauma and functions as to distribute the negative pressure applied to a surgically closed area of skin trauma. Preferably, the pressure under the sealant layer is reduced by expanding the volume of the enclosure space and thereby decreasing the density of air molecules under the sealant layer.
