Abstract: A formulation dispenser is disclosed for use in a parenteral delivery system. The dispenser comprises an inlet for admitting fluid into the dispenser and an outlet for letting fluid leave the dispenser. A beneficial agent is housed in a formulation chamber in the dispenser and a membrane permeable to fluid and agent defines one boundary of the formulation chamber. A piston is slideably disposed in the dispenser for governing the flow of fluid through the dispenser, or for permitting fluid to contact the membrane and enter the formulation chamber for forming a solution containing agent that flows through the outlet into the parenteral system.

Abstract: The system of this invention provides a method and apparatus for the sterile intravenous administration of dry medicine. Such a system can include standard IV set components such as a source of liquid, means to inject liquid into a human vein, means forming a passageway between the source of liquid and said injection means, a valve to control the flow of liquid through the passageway, and a cartridge-like dry medicine package adapted for use with the system. Such a package can include conduit means adapted to perforate and communicate with the passageway, means forming a cell for dry, particulate medicine with portions forming a liquid-pervious barrier to the dry medicine and an air vent with an air-pervious, liquid barrier.

Abstract: The valvular infusion device is for the administration of drugs or supplemental fluids into a parenteral fluid stream for intravenous infusion to a patient. The device includes a main conduit for generally the continual flow therethrough of a parenteral fluid, and at least one second conduit in communication with the main conduit to permit the injecting of drugs or supplemental fluids thereinto for transport with the parenteral fluid to a patient. The second conduits have valve chambers and compressible, resilient valve means therein, to permit only one-way flow of the drugs or supplemental fluids into the main conduit. The second conduits are provided with syringe receiving and securing means to provide a source for activating the pressure sensitive valve means and the injection of the required drugs or supplemented fluids for a patient. Additionally provided is a valvular infusion device for the induction of general anesthesia, which permits the injection of drugs utilizing only one hand of a user.

Abstract: A parenteral delivery system and a formulation chamber are disclosed for administering a beneficial agent. The parenteral delivery system comprises a drip chamber and a formulation chamber. The formulation chamber comprises a wall surrounding an internal space and it has an inlet for admitting a liquid into the formulation chamber and an outlet for letting an agent formulation leave the formulation chamber. The chamber houses an agent delivery system for releasing a beneficial agent into a liquid that enters the chamber.
