Abstract: Tool head as seat and drive for the rotary motion of a tool to be bilaterally supported in the tool head. Near its ends, the tool has centering faces which fit into rotatably developed seat bushings in the tool head. One of said seat bushings is arranged in a drive carriage and the other in a counter-bearing, in alignment with each other. The counter-bearing is part of a counter-bearing carriage which can be displaced far enough on the drive carriages to seat the tool so that the tool, which is located between the carriages, is held with the centering faces in the bushings and a pre-adjusted axial force is present. A rotary drive motor is connected to the tool via a tool spindle supported in the drive carriage and a positive clutch. The tool is preferably developed as a shaft tool and is essentially symmetrical relative to a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation in the center of a gear cutting enveloping body of the tool.

Abstract: The present invention provides an improved machine tool, comprising a machine frame, a support arranged on the machine frame and having a first receiving means for the workpiece or the tool. A cross slide system is arranged on the machine frame and has a second receiving means for the tool or the workpiece which can be moved by the cross slide system in a movement zone of a cross slide movement surface. The cross slide system may comprise two slide elements, one of which is supported on the machine frame and the other bears the second receiving means, such that the slide elements are guided so as to be movable on one another by a single two-dimensional guide means which is movable in the direction of both cross slide movement axes. The guide means determines the precision of the guidance of the second receiving means parallel to the cross slide movement surface.

  • Patent number: 6640678
Abstract: There is provided a multi-turret lathe with two opposed spindles which is capable of machining a workpiece more effectively. The lathe with two opposed spindles includes: a first spindle (2); a second spindle (4) located opposite to the first spindle on the same axis and movable toward and away from the first spindle; and a set of two tool turrets (8a and 8c) which machines a workpiece cooperating with the first spindle, and another set of two tool turrets (8b and 8d) which machines a workpiece cooperating with the second spindle, and the two tool turrets in each of the sets are disposed opposite to each other about a spindle axis (B). Each of the four tool turrets is mounted on a tool slide which is movable and positionable in the direction of spindle axis and also in the direction perpendicular to the spindle axis. This enables each of the four tool turrets to be movable from a position to machine a workpiece held on one of the spindles and another position to machine a workpiece held on the other spindle.

Abstract: This application is drawn toward a combined coring and sawing machine for composite materials. The preferred embodiment combines the functionality of two machines typically used in the prior art and minimizes both the cost and errors associated with larger cutting tools, e.g. diamond cutting devices, used in the prior art. Combining variable speed motor operation with pressure actuated advancement of cutting tools and automatic workholding actuation provides a system which is effectively open-loop “load” controlled as opposed to the open-loop “displacement” control systems most often used in the prior art. Simple and economical specimen ejection techniques are a further improvement over the prior art which often includes no ejection facility at all.

Abstract: The present invention consists of a lathe attachment for installation on a portable bandsaw mill, for turning round shafts from wood blocks on the portable bandsaw mill. The lathe attachment has an elongated chassis, a tailstock and a headstock mounted on opposite ends of the chassis for holding and rotating a wood block along the chassis. Bindings are provided to retain the chassis to the cross beams of the portable bandsaw mill. In another aspect of the invention, a number of symmetrical facets are firstly sawed along the wood block prior to turning the wood block. The turning of a round shaft on the bandsaw mill is preferably effected while the alignment of the wood block or shaft makes an acute angle with the direction of movement of the bandsaw head.

  • Publication number: 20030084761
Abstract: A lathe (10) having a lathe bed (11) on which is mounted a cutting station at which a cutting tool (13) can be mounted, a guide defining a guide path for guiding relative feeding movement between a workpiece holder (14) and the cutting tool (13), and drive means (15) for relatively moving the workpiece and the cutting tool (13) to engagement with each other. In order to provide a gap-swing facility, and avoid present requirement in known lathes to provide a “removable gap-piece”, the invention provides a guide in the form of three parallel guide elements, namely a main front guide-way (17), a tailstock bed-way (18) and a rear ante-roll guide-way (19), which are spaced apart from each other and relative to the centre line (16) of the workpiece holder (14). The three parallel guide elements in the invention provide a permanent gap or cavity in the lathe bed structure (11), to provide the required gap-swing facility and substantially without loss of guide-way support.
