  • Patent number: 5018416
Abstract: A leading edge of a web is fed to an upstream cutting station and is gripped at the cutting station with an upstream clamp which is then advanced downstream away from the cutting station to a middle station and is arrested in the middle station where the leading edge of the web is gripped with a downstream clamp and released from the upstream clamp. The leading edge held by the downstream clamp is then moved downstream to a holding station and the opened upstream clamp is moved along the web to a position slightly upstream of the upstream cutting station. The web is then gripped immediately downstream of the upstream cutting station with an upstream clamping conveyor and immediately upstream of the downstream holding station with a downstream clamping conveyor, and is gripped immediately upstream of the upstream cutting station with the upstream clamp.

  • Patent number: 4809576
Abstract: A scrap removal system is disclosed for a stamping and forming machine in which strip material is fed in a vertical plane through a tooling assembly having punches and dies therein so that holes are punched in the strip when the punches move through the strip and into the die openings. Such punching operations produce small bits of scrap material commonly referred to as slugs. The die block is mounted against a supporting structure which has passageways extending therethrough in alignment with the die openings so that as the slugs are produced, they are pushed into the passageways and form stacks of aligned slugs. The passageways extend to outlets, past which a slug removing device in the form of an endless belt continuously moves. As the slugs are pushed from the slug outlets, the endless belt carries them laterally and disposes of them at a location beside the tooling assembly. A detecting means is also disclosed which stops the machine in the event of failure of the scrap removal system.

  • Patent number: 4579028
Abstract: A stationary grid of crossed blade members is provided and force structure is movable toward and away from one side of the grid and operative to engage a farm commodity such as an onion and gradually move the onion toward the grid. Knife structure is supported relative to the grid for repeating movement in a plane generally paralleling and slightly spaced outward of the other side of the grid and across the latter. Drive structure is operatively connected to the knife structure for repeated movement of the latter across the grid at a speed proportional to the speed of movement of the force structure toward the grid. The force structure includes a plate paralleling the grid and spaced outwardly of the aforementioned one side thereof. The plate includes a plurality of blunted pins projecting outward therefrom toward the grid and projectable into the spaces defined between adjacent portions of the crossed blade members of the grid.

  • Patent number: 4420118
Abstract: A cutting device for cutting deleaved and cored heads of cauliflower into predetermined smaller sizes comprises a cleated conveyor for conveying the cored cauliflower heads, a first series of circular knives equally spaced and transversely positioned along the conveyed path of the cauliflower, a first stripper bar associated with the first series of knives to remove cauliflower from between the knife edges, a rotating paddle extending transverely across the conveyor and immediately downstream from the stripper bar so as to settle cauliflower pieces back onto the conveyor between the cleats and ready the cauliflower chunks for further cutting, a second series of circular knives spaced transversely across the conveyor and a stripper bar associated with the second series of knives so as to clear the cauliflower that sticks between the circular knives.

  • Patent number: 4376400
Abstract: A device is provided for feeding a continuous fabric web to a machine for sewing women's pantyhose. The continuous fabric web is formed into a gusset for the pantyhose by various devices including a motor controlled by a photoelectric device for feeding the fabric web from a spool of fabric web. A carriage alternately moves in a horizontal direction and has several web pulling jaws to pull the web into place. A tampon pincer projects from the plane of operation to hold the fabric web tight. Thereafter, a pair of co-acting blades cuts and trims the web and the pantyhose material. The pantyhose material and formed gusset are held taut until they can be sewn together.

  • Patent number: 4336732
Abstract: A device for cutting out and transporting a silage block, comprising a main frame which may be connected to a tractor and which comprises an at least approximately horizontal cross-beam, which carries a plurality of parallel tines and to which an upstanding main frame part is connected. This upstanding main frame part supports near its upper end an at least approximately horizontal frame member, which forms an approximately U-shaped guide along which a drive housing may be reciprocated. A sawing means is guided in this drive housing for upward and downward movement. In both corners of the frame member which are remote from the upstanding main frame part the sawing means is rotatable over at least approximately 90.degree. about an axis of rotation which is at least approximately stationary during this rotating motion and which extends at a distance from the longitudinal center line of the sawing means which is smaller than the width of the sawing means.

  • Patent number: 4277999
Abstract: An upright rectangular frame longitudinally journals an axle supporting a plurality of spaced-apart circular saws. The axle is V-belt driven by an engine at one end of the frame. A feed conveyor, disposed laterally of the frame, moves logs deposited thereon toward the saws in response to a manually operated lever moving an idler pulley and tightening a flat belt entrained around a feed conveyor driving pulley and frictionally engaging a pulley on the axle. The sawed logs are moved out of the frame by a belt conveyor.

  • Patent number: 4212215
Abstract: Apparatus for cutting a tube of semi-rigid material at a predetermined point to make possible separate removal of the contents of the tube on either side of the cutting point comprises a flat blade and jaws which together define a longitudinal channel suitable for receiving and gripping the tube for the greater part of its periphery. The jaws are provided with a slit which intersects the channel transversely over the whole of its cross-sectional periphery. Additionally means for relatively moving the blade and jaws are provided so that the blade penetrates the slit and its cutting edge passes transversely through the channel, thus cutting the tube, until the blade covers the section of the channel level with the slit, and provides a seal to both parts of the tube after cutting.

  • Patent number: 4161897
Abstract: An apparatus for manufacturing a glass fiber chopped strand mat is disclosed, in which the dropping direction of chopped strands is detected at all times, so that whenever the dropping direction is varied, immediately the relative position of an axis of a feed roller and an axis of a cutter roller with respect to a stationary structure is displaced so as to correct the dropping direction thereby to uniformly accumulate the chopped strands on a conveyer means.
