  • Patent number: 6928915
Abstract: A plug prevention device is provided in a slicing machine having a rotary impeller for carrying products such as potatoes or the like into engagement with cutting knives to form lattice cut slices, wherein the plug prevention device prevents the products from lodging within an upwardly open inlet throat of the impeller. The plug prevention device comprises an elongated stationary rod having one end projecting into the impeller throat at a position substantially off-axis relative to an axis of impeller rotation. Products entering the impeller and tending to lodge by centrifugal action against an internal wall of the impeller throat will strike the rod, causing such products to separate from wall of the impeller throat and fall further into the impeller for slice processing.

Abstract: The twist-tie dispenser has a pair of pinch wheels on its infeed side, and a cutter wheel rolling against an anvil wheel near its outlet side. A crank and a spring are used to forcefully advance the cutter wheel over about half a turn per full rotation. The cutter wheel has a cutter blade mounted therein which rolls against the anvil wheel. A pulling of the twist tie material on the outlet side causes the cutter wheel to rotate and to extend the spring. As the spring pass the over-centre position, it swiftly urges the cutter wheel to severe a twist tie and to advance the end of the tie stock outside the dispenser for a subsequent cycle.

  • Patent number: 6497168
Abstract: A saw having a rotating blade and a laser beam alignment system, a rotating, multi-sided member having reflecting surfaces formed on each edge being mounted to one side of the rotating saw blade. A laser device is positioned in front of the blade guard with a mounting bracket, the beam generated thereby being reflected by the multi-sided member onto a work piece. The laser beam provides a visual cutting line to enable the saw operator to align the work piece accurately.

  • Patent number: 6487949
Abstract: A bale processor for cutting or dicing a bale or slab of unvulcanized rubber produces small cubes or blocks of a predetermined size and uniform shape for continuous feeding at a predetermined rate into a mixing machine or blender. A bale or slab of feedstock rubber is advanced incrementally along a slider platform and a segment is sliced from the leading end of the bale. After separation, the segment falls onto a receiving panel from which it is transferred by a vacuum pick-up head to a vacuum hold-down table. Multiple slices are then formed through the segment along the X-axis by circular cutting blades of an X-axis cutter head, thereby forming elongated segment strips. Next, multiple slices are formed through the segment strips in the Y-direction by a Y-axis cutter head which includes circular cutter blades that are extendable and retractable along the Y-axis.

  • Patent number: 6481326
Abstract: In the field of clearance of unexploded ordnance from land, there is a need for an improved apparatus for removing unexploded ordnance from the ground. A cutting apparatus includes a plurality of blades on a rotatable shaft, the blades being tapered towards their distal ends. When the blades are driven forwardly through soil while the shaft rotates, they tend to loosen items such as solid ordnance and bring such items to the soil surface. The blades simultaneously sever scissile matter in the soil, thereby facilitating removal of the ordnance. The cutting assembly includes a conveyor for conveying unexploded ordnance away from the soil. The cutting assembly may be mounted on a vehicle including further means for rendering harmless the unexploded ordnance.

The cutting blade holder encloses a center hole, so that the rotating cutting apparatus can be mounted to a drive shaft of machinery or secured to a cup that can be mounted to the drive shaft of machinery and driven by the machinery. The cutting blade holder can be made of a less expensive material, with only the cutting blade being made of higher-grade materials that maintains its cutting edge well. Additionally, in some arrangements of the present invention, the cutting blade may be sharpened on two sides so that the rotating cutting apparatus can be used for longer periods of time.
