  • Publication number: 20010027975
Abstract: A metal finishing barrel side opening has a cover secured by a series of cover and barrel tabs, the cover slid into a secured position with the cover tabs partially overlain by the barrel tabs. A locking handle assembly includes a graspable portion supported on a deflectable spring blade attached to the cover at one end which allows the handle assembly to move away from an aligned locator feature on the barrel as the cover is pushed into position. When the cover is shifted lengthwise, the handle assembly moves past the locking feature, and the locking blade pushes the handle assembly back down alongside the locking feature which then prevents reverse sliding of the cover back from under the barrel tabs. When the handle is pulled to initiate removal of the cover, the handle assembly is then moved out above the locking feature to enable the cover to be slid to the released position. An automation apparatus interacts with one form of the locking assembly to automatically install and remove the cover.

  • Patent number: 5285917
Abstract: A child-resistant container closure constructed according to the present invention comprises a disk shaped cover plate attached to body section formed as a substantially cylindrical wall. A movable handle or tab is attached to the cover plate to aid a user in pulling the closure from a container in which the closure is installed. A well or recess is provided in cover plate to house the handle in a closed position. A ridge on the end of the handle cooperates with a mating ridge in the wall of the recess to retain the handle in a closed position. A resilient spring is provided in the recess so that when the handle is released from the recess, it is urged into a position in which it may be conveniently gripped by a user. An undercut groove or notch is provided on the outside surface of the cylindrical wall adjacent the cover plate. The notch engages a mating lip or ridge extending inward from the inner surface of the mouth of the product container to secure the closure to the product container.

  • Patent number: 5270012
Abstract: A blood analyzer system incorporates a conveyor for handling and transporting sample blood through at least one blood analyzer and an automatic blood smear generator under the control of a programmable controller. Blood samples are stored in sample containers having identifiers for the sample blood that they contain. These sample containers are transported through the system in protective racks that permit the reading of the identifiers. The results of analysis by one or more blood analyzers in the system determines the need for performing or omitting subsequent operations on a particular sample blood. When a smeared blood sample is to be made, the controller assures that the smear thickness is consistent with other samples regardless of the thickness or viscosity of the sample blood. If the system fails to make a required smeared blood sample, a detector sounds an alarm, warning of a system failure.

  • Patent number: 5145633
Abstract: A container such as a jerry can can be produced with one or more handles molded with the blow molded body of the container. This invention eliminates the need for separate injection molded inserts. A first pair of molds, and a second pair of molds having a lower and upper section, are used in the apparatus to close a top portion and a bottom and/or draped portions of a standard parison.
