  • Patent number: 6758732
Abstract: A combination abrasive disc and backing plate provide workpiece viewing and blowing collectively through aligned viewing apertures. The backing plate has a bottom surface adapted to support the abrasive disc and an opposed top surface. Coordinated alignment of the viewing apertures of the disc and plate allows observation of a workpiece collectively through the disc and plate during rotary drive thereof. The plate's viewing aperture is partially adjoined by a scoop formation on the plate's top surface. The scoop is arranged for deflecting air from above the plate's top surface and consequently forcing such in a current collectively through the aligned viewing apertures of the disc and plate. This blowing current acts to both blow away debris from the field of view and thereby reduce viewing impairment, as well as to provide some cooling to the workpiece.

  • Publication number: 20040092213

The machine is operable to rotate such a workpiece about a first axis (5) and the machine has drive means for rotating the conical wheel about a second axis (14). A feeding mechanism brings the wheel into contact with the workpiece to define a line of grinding where the wheel contacts the workpiece (i.e. a cutting line). In use, a rocking movement is imparted to the wheel and spindle relative to the workpiece as the latter rotates so as to maintain the orientation of the cutting line relative to the first axis and of the second axis relative to the cutting line.

A lifting lever has a fulcrum end pivoted on a support frame, and a force end coupled to the output shaft by means of a cam member such that a drive force of the output shaft is transmitted to effectuate reciprocating upward and downward movements of the force end. The upward movement of the force end will cause an intermediate weight portion of the lever to lift the upright shaft as well as the plunger from a lower position to a higher position.

Abstract: A grinding machine has a wheelhead movable tinder computer control perpendicular to the axis of a composite workpiece, mounted between a headstock and a tailstock, and workrests slidable along front and rear rails. Between the workrests are sandwiched rigid cover-spacers to protect the rails and prevent lateral movement of the workrests. A spring-operated thrust bar may be supported against a fixed dressing wheelhead to clamp the stack of cover-spacers and workrests together, in order to accurately locate and space apart the workrests.

Abstract: A polishing machine for polishing a periphery of a sheet of the present invention comprises a grinding shaft tilting mechanism (1) capable of changing a tilting angle of a rotary shaft of a grinding stone (3) with respect to a rotary shaft of the sheet (2) and also capable of changing its tilting direction. Accordingly, in a recess portion or a protrusion portion in the periphery, when the tilting direction is changed while the tilting angle is being maintained, chamfering (polishing) can be executed with high accuracy in the same manner as that of the outer circumferential portion of the sheet.

Abstract: There are provided a shaft rotating around the shaft's center in a direction in which a blade rotates, and the blade fixed to the shaft and moving at a rate of movement, wherein the shaft's center rotates at a predetermined rate of rotation with a small radius of rotation rapidly, the rate of rotation being greater than the rate of movement. Thus the blade is pressed against and thus cuts a substrate and produces chips and the blade is disengaged from the substrate and the chips thus move in the direction in which the blade rotates and the chips are thus removed from between the cutting edge of the blade and the substrate. This can provide reduced working resistance and hence enhanced working efficiency and also prevent the blade surface from having significant frictional heat. Furthermore, the generated frictional heat can readily dissipate and the blade can thus have a long life.

Abstract: To provide an electro-deposited thin-blade grindstone containing a plate-shaped base metal, depressed portions that are open from near the edge portion of the base metal to the edge portion and are formed alternately on both side surfaces of the base metal, and a number of abrasive grains fixedly deposited on the depressed portions and protruded from the side surfaces and edge portion of the base metal. The depressed portion is formed in a depth of ½ or more of the thickness of the base metal. The abrasive grain is a hard abrasive grain made of diamond, CBN or the like. The diameter of the abrasive grain is nearly equal to the thickness of the base metal.

Abstract: The current positioning data of a machining tool with regard to a reference surface of a workpiece or of a body connected to the workpiece, is determined. The tool and the workpiece to be machined are relatively moveable toward and away from one another, and the rotary speed of a drive motor for the tool is set to a starting rotary speed which is so low that, when the tool comes into contact with the reference surface, its rotary speed is measurably reduced, the reference surface is moved past the tool before the tool is in contact and while the tool is in contact. As a result, the braking moments in the bearings are increased, and the drive motor comes to a stop quicker.
