  • Patent number: 5924915
Abstract: A hand-held centerless grinding apparatus for grinding and refinishing convex, concave and flat surfaces. When a surface has been grooved or otherwise indented, the damaged surface can be built up, then must be ground back to the original configuration. A box-like body structure having and open side has inwardly extending V-shaped openings in opposite end walls. A grinder having a drive motor and grinding wheel is mounted on a bracket for grinding wheel movement along a line bisecting the V-shaped opening. The box structure is arranged with the open side against the surface to be repaired. In the case of a shaft, the sides of the V-shaped opening engage the shaft. The bracket is adjusted to bring the grinding wheel to a position conforming to the intended surface configuration. The motor is turned on and the body is manually moved along the surface so that the grinding wheel grinds away any repair material extending above the desired surface.

  • Patent number: 5853316
Abstract: A method of grinding control edges of a control bush of a rotary slide valve for hydraulic steering of motor vehicles, includes placement of the control bush in a support in form of slide shoes or a V block and additionally securing the control bush in the support by pressure rollers. A precise angular positioning of the control bush is effected by press-fitting a mandrel into the interior of the control bush. After grinding the control bush to a predetermined outside diameter, the reference points commensurate with the angular position of the individual control edges are determined by a measuring system. Based on the determined reference points, an optimum reference point for the angular position of all control edges is computed and utilized for adjusting the mandrel in form of a zero point shift for grinding the control edges.

  • Patent number: 5833520
Abstract: A device for mirror-polishing the end of an optical fiber connector or similar elongate workpiece into a convex shape. A first grindstone polishes the workpiece while a second grindstone corrects the work surface of the first grindstone when it is deformed. The work surfaces of the first and second grindstones run in perpendicular directions or in inclined directions, so that an arcuate concavity having a circular or oval cross-section is formed in the work surface of the first grindstone. Electrolytic dressing is applied to the work surface of the first grindstone to provide it with high processing ability at all times. When the concavity of the first grindstone is deformed, the second grindstone corrects it with the work surface thereof.
