  • Patent number: 4465043
Abstract: A regulating device is proposed for an internal combustion engine having a throttle device and a controllable bypass channel in the intake tube, where regulation is effected to a minimum volume (Q/n) in overrunning above a predetermined rpm value and to the idling rpm below this rpm value. The purpose of this regulating device is the substantially precise preliminary control of an adjustment member in the bypass channel around the throttle valve to the opening cross section required for idling. The regulating device includes a switchover device (alternating switch), to the input terminals of which the output signals of the regulators for volumetric value and for idling rpm are applied. In the case of temperature-dependent minimum and threshold volumetric values, good warmup performance can be attained.

  • Patent number: 4463725
Abstract: A fuel injection device is proposed which has a free piston hydraulically driven by a pump piston and controlling the relieving of the pump work chamber. To this end, the free piston is embodied in two parts, comprising a control piston and a relief piston displaceable relative thereto and oriented toward the pump work chamber. The two pistons enclose between them a relief chamber, which at the end of supply can be made to communicate via a relief conduit with a chamber of lower pressure. This free piston is also usable with fuel injection pumps which supply the injection quantity via a long pressure line to the injection nozzles located on the engine; however, it is particularly advantageously usable with a pump/nozzle, in which the injection pump and the injection nozzle are combined into a single component.

  • Patent number: 4462376
Abstract: A method and an apparatus are proposed for determining and controlling an exhaust gas recirculation rate in internal combustion engines (Diesel engines), wherein an adjusting member in the exhaust gas recirculation line is adjusted by a regulator in order to attain precise regulation of the exhaust gas quantity recirculated to the aspirated air zone. The regulator is supplied with the exhaust gas temperature (T4) measured at a given time as the load signal for the engine. The comparison value of the regulator is then either an actual value of the exhaust gas recirculation rate, ascertained by means of effective temperature measurements in the intake zone of the engine, or a set-point differential temperature which is produced by means of measuring the aspirated air quantity at a given time and the rpm.

  • Patent number: 4461258
Abstract: A regulating device is proposed for a fuel metering system of an internal combustion engine having .lambda. regulation. The regulating device includes a P-I regulator, and the individual control variables of the regulator are stored in memory and are capable of being recalled in accordance with operating characteristics. By means of asymmetrical P and I components that is, different values at the transition from a lean to a rich mixture or vice versa, the average value for .lambda. can be shifted in a clearly-defined manner, so that the individual exhaust gas components are substantially adapted to the desired values at all operational points. The individual P and I components or regulator control variables are stored in memory in performance graphs, which preferably permit finely-distinguished regulator control during partial-load operation.
