    Abstract: A fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines is proposed in which cavitation is avoided at the sealing surface between a threaded connection element which contains the pressure valve and a securing flange of the pressure valve housing which protrudes radially outwardly therefrom. The securing flange is attached to a cylindrical portion on the end of the valve housing remote from the pressure line leading to the injection nozzle and a sealing member is fitted into an intermediate chamber between the cylindrical portion and an inner wall of the threaded connection element. This sealing member is pressed with at least one annular contact surface onto the cylindrical housing portion and with a different contact surface, axially displaced with respect to the first, is pressed against the threaded connection element. The sealing member may be embodied as a thin-walled sheet-metal sleeve, may comprise a spiral spring, or may be made of plastic.

    Abstract: An apparatus for setting the angular relationship between rotating driving, and driven members in the injection pump drive of an internal combustion engine. The driving member and the driven member have a toothed portion of which at least one is a helical toothed portion, whereby the toothed portions are coupled to each other by a coupler member having toothed portions which mesh with the toothed portions of the driving and driven members. At least one of the toothed portions of the coupler member is configured as a helical portion and is hydraulically displaceable with respect to the other toothed portions. This hydraulic displacement is controlled by a centrifugal governor having flyweights. The flyweights displace a valve member against the force of at least one spring in an rpm-dependent manner to effect the rpm-dependent adjustment of the instant of injection. In addition to the rpm-dependent displacement, a load-dependant displaceability, can be superimposed.

    Abstract: A fuel injection pump for Diesel engines in which a rotating and reciprocating piston pressurizes and distributes fuel to individual pressure lines leading to the injection valves of the engine. In order to change the timing of injection with respect to the engine cycle, there is provided a mechanism to change the relative angle between the pressurizing piston and its drive means, which runs in synchronism with the engine. The mechanism operates hydraulically and is affected by the fuel pressure in the sump of the injection pump. There is also provided a hydraulic control valve mechanism which permits varying amounts of fuel to flow back from the sump to the low pressure side of the fuel delivery pump, thereby changing the injection timing. A primary control valve adjusts the sump pressure on the basis of engine speed while a secondary control valve adjusts the sump pressure on the basis of engine temperature in order to adapt the timing of fuel injection to engine starting and engine warm-up.

The setting member and the control member both are articulated on the intermediate lever via a shift lever connecting both members, and the intermediate lever is provided with a pivotal bearing adjustable in the governor housing solely for the purpose of accomplishing the basic setting of the full-load supply quantity.

    Abstract: A method is proposed for operating an electromagnetic load device with a movable armature, especially an injection valve of an internal combustion engine. The load device is supplied, at the beginning of trigger pulse, with a high amperage current and, at least toward the end of the pulse, with a reduced current. This method is characterized in that, starting with a certain amperage, at which preferably the armature is set into motion but has not as yet reached its final position, the current rise is at least reduced. The apparatus aspect comprises a measuring element and switching element connected in series with the load device. A threshold switch is associated with the measuring element to control the switching element. The switching thresholds of the threshold switch can be controlled in dependence on current and/or on time. The first current threshold is at a value at which the armature of the load is preferably being moved, but has not yet reached its final position.
