Abstract: There is described a method and apparatus for use in association with the fuel injection pumps of Diesel engines to time the moment of injection. The method and apparatus described relate to a closed-loop control system which engages a final control element in the fuel injection pump that changes the injection timing, i.e. the onset of fuel delivery and, hence, the onset of fuel injection. The controlled variable is the moment of fuel injection, detected by suitable means placed near the injection valves. A set-point value for this instant is derived on the basis of stored data which correlate the correct moment of injection as a function of engine speed with various optimum conditions, for example, low fuel consumption, low smoke generation, low noise, etc. The selection of the proper characteristic curve from the stored data set is made automatically or manually.
Abstract: A mixture preparation apparatus for mixture-compressing, externally ignited internal combustion engines, which serves to improve the output and to reduce both fuel consumption and the proportion of toxic components in the exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine. The mixture preparation apparatus comprises a rotatable vane body having vanes, or scoop members, disposed in the air intake line across the air flow direction, and including a portion arranged to extend into a section of the air intake line. The rotatable scoops are disposed in the region of an annular flow channel, so that between the inflow and the outflow side of the flow channel a constant, yet arbitrarily variable pressure difference can be regulated. The structure revealed requires only a small air component to drive the vane body, and thus only a limited energy requirement is present.
Abstract: A method and apparatus is proposed for producing one-piece hard gelatin capsules, intended in particular for the reception of liquid medicines. The formation of the capsules takes place according to the method by means of the uniform distribution of a predetermined quantity of gelatin or of another formable substance which is susceptible to use in the packaging of medicines, on the inner jacket surface of a closed form. An apparatus suitable for the performance of this method is revealed in the claims.
Abstract: This invention relates to a partition block and method of manufacture. According to the invention a generally solid block or like component having a tool engaging recess is manufactured in apparatus comprising a mould box, recess forming means for forming a recess in a face of the block formed in the mould box and tamping means, the arrangement being such that tamping of a composition in the mould box is effected by the tamping means independently of the recess forming means.
Abstract: An air flow measurement apparatus is proposed for measuring the air quantity aspirated by internal combustion engines, which has at least one temperature-dependent resistor disposed in the air flow, whose temperature and/or resistance is controlled in accordance with the flow rate to provide a controller output as a gauge for the quantity of the medium. The apparatus includes a flow restriction, which is preferably formed in plate-like configuration with a wedge-shaped cross section and the narraw tip facing into the air flow and is disposed in the flow downstream of the temperature-dependent resistor in such a manner that in the event of a flow reversal, such as during backfiring in the intake manifold of an internal combustion engine, the flow restriction reduces the flow velocity in the vicinity of the temperature-dependent resistor.
Abstract: An apparatus for classifying particles comprising a main body having a fine particle outlet and a coarse particle outlet, a classifying fan wheel disposed within the main body, and a first gas inlet channel for supplying the particles to the interior of the main body along with a gas stream. The apparatus further includes a gas passing member having a large number of gas inlets opened toward the direction of rotation of the fan wheel, and a second gas inlet channel for supplying a gas stream to the space between the gas passing member and the inner wall surface of the main body.
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for operating a fuel supply system, in particular a fuel injection system, in which a fuel supply pump continuously supplies fuel and wherein the excess fuel not required for injection is returned to the fuel reservoir. In order to reduce the average operating power of the pump and thus reduce the average amount of fuel returned to the tank, thereby reducing undesirable temperature increases of the fuel in the reservoir, the system fuel pressure is monitored and maintained at a value substantially equal to a reference value. The electrical power of the fuel supply pump is altered continuously so as to maintain the fuel system pressure at the reference level.
Abstract: A reciprocating internal combustion engine has a cylindrical combustion chamber lying substantially entirely within the cylinder head and including a fuel injection nozzle and possibly a glow plug. The top of the cylindrical combustion chamber is defined by the disc of the intake poppet valve and the bottom of the combustion chamber is defined at top dead center by a projection of the piston which is formed in a piston cap that consists of thermally resistant material and within which there is an air-filled void that prevents the heat transfer from the combustion chamber to the main body of the piston. This construction permits high surface temperatures within the combustion chamber without attendant heavy thermal stresses in the body of the piston.

Abstract: The actuation of electromagnetic devices, especially fuel or mixture shut-off solenoid valves in internal combustion engines is controlled on the basis of two engine variables, namely engine speed (rpm) and induction tube vacuum, for the purpose of suppressing fuel or mixture admission to the engine when the engine is being operated at higher than normal idling speed and while the throttle is closed (engine vacuum high). These twin conditions indicate that the engine is used for braking, i.e., it is being overrun. The position of the throttle is sensed by a vacuum switch which responds to induction tube vacuum and releases the actuation of the solenoid valve. The solenoid valve is further engaged by an rpm-dependent circuit in which a capacitor is periodically discharged by rpm related pulses.
Abstract: A fuel injection nozzle for preliminary and primary fuel injection, wherein the preliminary injection of fuel is effected by temporarily relieving the feed or delivery pressure. Control is accomplished by means of a control slide valve preferably arranged around the valve needle, at least a portion of the preliminary injection quantity being displaced by way of this control slide valve.

Abstract: The invention relates to a tape applicator head for dispensing tape onto a working surface for the construction of primarily structural parts, and to a method of laying tape onto a working surface.The tape applicator head includes a housing which is preferably displaced relative to the working surface. The housing includes a tape dispensing outlet where at least one tape dispensing structure has a tape engaging surface which imparts a tension to the tape as the tape applicator head is displaced relative to the working surface to drive the tape through the tape head. Preferably, two tape dispensing blocks are mounted to the housing at the tape dispensing outlet adjacent to each other. These blocks define spaced, symmetrically oriented surfaces which alternately engage the tape and impart the noted tension thereto as the tape applicator head is displaced in two opposing directions relative to the working surface. With this latter arrangement, the orientation of the tape applicator head is maintained unchanged.

Abstract: An ignition control device for changing the ignition timing of an internal combustion engine during and after the occurrence of engine braking, i.e., during a condition of increased speed and low load, as during coasting. The device includes a circuit which receives signals related to engine load and engine speed and determines therefrom the onset of engine braking. The device then retards the engine timing so as to reduce the amount of positive engine torque, whereafter the fuel supply may be entirely shut off. Upon establishment of normal operation or idling, the fuel supply is restored and the ignition timing is gradually returned to the normal setting.
