  • Patent number: 4227498
Abstract: A centrifugal governor is proposed which has particular applicability to the rpm-dependent variation of ignition or injection timing in internal combustion engines. The centrifugal governor is comprised primarily of a driving shaft and a driven shaft and of a governor disc removably connected with the driven shaft. One eccentric pair is situated on the governor disc for each flyweight; each eccentric pair is coupled with the driven shaft, which serves as the camshaft of an injection pump and may be rotated by the flyweights articulated on the eccentrics in order to vary the mutual rotary position of both shafts.

  • Patent number: 4225286
Abstract: A device for generating a thrust in a liquid utilizing rotating cylinders. The cylinders are mounted on a rotatable hub and rotate about their own axes relative to the hub. The relative rotation follows, preferably, a sinusoidal path for producing the thrust, and in particular, each cylinder undergoes a reversal in its direction of rotation after each half rotation of the hub. A common control bar is included which is connected to each cylinder and eccentrically with respect to the axis of rotation of the hub so that the points of reversal and the direction of thrust can be adjusted.

  • Patent number: 4224914
Abstract: A fuel injection apparatus for mixture-compressing, externally ignited internal combustion engines with continuous injection into the air induction line adapted to apportion a quantity of fuel proportional to the quantity of induced air and to accomplish good preparation of the fuel-air mixture. The fuel injection apparatus comprises an air flow rate meter arranged in the air induction tube, which moves in accordance with the quantity of air flowing through it against a return force and thereby actuates a fuel apportionment valve. Accordingly, the apportioned fuel flows into a fuel feed line downstream from the fuel apportionment point, which fuel feed line empties on the one side into the air induction line and is connected on the other with a source of air.

  • Patent number: 4223643
Abstract: The fuel mixture preparation system of an internal combustion engine, especially a continuous fuel injection system, is engaged during intended engine accelerations by a pressure sensor in the induction manifold which responds to increasing manifold pressure to close a switch. The switch closure affects a pressure control valve that changes the control pressure in the fuel injection system and thereby causes temporary fuel enrichment until the differential pressure in the pressure sensor has returned to equilibrium. The signal from the pressure sensor may be extended arbitrarily by interposition of an electronic timing circuit which is constructed as an integrating circuit so that its output signal, when processed by a comparator, will produce a proportionally extended actuation signal for the control valve.

  • Patent number: 4224494
Abstract: A brazing press for securing exterior claddings to bottoms of metallic receptacles, which includes a support structure and a reciprocable mandrel for exerting pressure against the former. The support structure holds a massive inductor block having a flat bottom and containing an inductor coil for respectively pressing and heating the flat portions of the workpieces, and an encompassing sleeve which is associated with an auxiliary inductor and exerts pressure on the peripheral curved portions of the cladding. Either the sleeve with its auxuliary inductor of the inductor block can be supported by said structure through resilient means which are calibrated, whereby auxiliary pressure is exerted on the peripheral curved portions independently from the one exerted on the flat central portion, when said mandrel is pushed against the inductor block.

  • Patent number: 4223644
Abstract: A principal operational variable of an internal combustion engine, for example the fuel-air mixture ratio, is controlled by superposition of three separate control steps. The basic setting of a control variable is obtained with a relatively coarse forward control, for example a carburetor in the case of fuel-air mixture control. Superimposed on this basic control is a refined forward control step which is based on the prevailing magnitudes of at least one operational variable, preferably the engine speed and the throttle valve position, and which applies a multiplicative correction to the basic setting of the fuel-air mixture. The third superimposed control step is a feedback control of the fuel-air mixture within the range of correction applied by the second control steps but based on still another engine variable, in particular the exhaust gas composition as sensed by an oxygen sensor (.lambda.-sensor). After comparison with the reference signal, the .lambda.

  • Patent number: 4223620
Abstract: A catamaran type vessel has two parallel hulls and a metal tubular framework linking the hulls. Rigid members extend longitudinally within the hulls and have extensions projecting from the upper surfaces of the hulls for coupling with the framework. This reduces hull stresses and allows lighter hulls. Expanded plastics foam may be used to hold the rigid members in the hulls. The hulls may be inclined inwardly to give an asymmetrical catamaran type configuration.

  • Patent number: 4224475
Abstract: A switching system for telephone exchanges employing pulse code modulation (PCM). The time division switching network uses standard circuits of a single type, i.e., symmetrical time division matrices (MTS) and, in a particular embodiment, one PCM telephone junction is multipled onto two inputs of two MTSs and the latter are rejoined by two bi-directional junctions so that the construction of telephone exchange according to the invention permits simple and easy extensions of the capacity of the switching system.

  • Patent number: 4223654
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling a Diesel engine by limiting the amount of fuel to be admitted to the engine in dependence on engine speed and on the air mass flow rate. The invention provides a primary set of stored data interrelating these variables. The primary data set is used to generate a set-point value for the position of a movable stop member which limits the mechanical travel of the fuel control rack in the fuel injection pump; the control rack is also subject to the action of a mechanical speed governor. Additional corrections of the maximum amount of fuel are made on the basis of air temperature and fuel temperature. Still further refinements include taking into account exhaust gas temperature and engine starting conditions. The final corrected set-point signal is then compared with the output from a position indicator which is attached to the stop member.
