  • Patent number: 4758715
Abstract: To reduce the engineering and operating costs, particularly to save a radiation source and minimize the space requirement of the illuminating device for the automatic reading of markings that are optically recognizable on a carrier, e.g. alphanumeric symbols on shipments such as letters, postcards, check cards, vouchers and the like, the light flux of a radiation source is utilized better by an additional, simple and inexpensive arrangement consisting of two mirrors. These mirrors are disposed around the radiation source and the radiation source generates two radiation beams which are sent on their way to the carrier to be illuminized first through a condenser system and are then redirected by reflectors in such a manner that the angle of incidence alpha of their beam axes to the carrier surface is essentially the same and that, after focusing the radiation beams, both illuminate the same partial area of the carrier.

  • Patent number: 4758283
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for readily and efficiently preparing L-rhamnose with the use of a marine alga belonging to the family Monostromaceae, Ulvales.According to the process of the present invention, rhamnan sulfate is extracted from a marine alga belonging to the family Monostromaceae such as Monostroma nitidium Wittrock and the obtained extract is hydrolyzed by adding acid(s) thereto followed by heating or treating thereof with a cation exchange resin followed by heating to thereby give a solution containing free L-rhamnose.Since the solution thus obtained contains a large amount of salts, the removal of these salts is significantly important in the preparation of L-rhamnose. In the present invention, an effective process therefor is combined with a conventional method by using an ion exchange resin to thereby establish an efficient desalting process.

  • Patent number: 4757180
Abstract: The invention relates to a transport device for welding wire feed for welding equipment, in particular arc sheild-gas welding tools on manipulators. The welding wire is transported from a magazine or reel with the aid of two separate drives. The main drive determines the feed and it is mounted near the application welding die, while the auxiliary is arranged spaced therebehind. The motor of the main drive is controlled to a constant speed corresponding to the selected feed, while the auxiliary drive acts on the welding wire with slip. The motor of the auxiliary drive is also controlled to a constant speed, the speed adjustment of the drives being, however, control-technologically connected for maintenance of a certain difference of the transport speeds.

  • Patent number: 4756722
Abstract: Part of the synthesis gas produced by coal gasification in an allothermically heated fluidized bed reactor is burned after removal of dust and sulfur and serves as a source of energy to heat the reactor by indirect heat exchange and to produce the steam required for the gasification process. The flue gas exiting from the heat exchanger of the reactor can be used to perform work in expansion turbines. The rest of the synthesis gas is available for use in downstream processes, such as iron ore reduction, or can be burned and used to perform work in turbines to produce electric current. The result is a process that is environmentally safer and operates with a better yield than direct coal burning or autothermal coal gasification, but requires no outside source of energy, such as nuclear power, as prior art allothermal coal gasification processes do.
