Publication number: 20100164760Abstract: An encoding scheme generates an encoded nine bit code word from each input eight bit data word. The coding scheme is such that the encoded data words have advantageous properties, such as a minimum of two polarity transitions in each encoded data word, and a maximum of five bits without a polarity transition. Five of the bits from the input eight bit data word appear unchanged in the encoded data word, while the other four bits of the encoded data word are obtained by applying appropriate logical operators to the remaining three bits of the input data word in combination with two of the five bits that appear unchanged in the encoded data word. Exception codes can also be defined, that is, nine bit code words that cannot be obtained from any eight bit data word by means of the coding scheme, and can be used to embed control information into the data stream. For example, the exception codes may advantageously have six or seven bits without a polarity transition.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 11, 2007Publication date: July 1, 2010Applicant: NXP B.V.Inventor: Gerrit Willem Besten

Publication number: 20100164778Abstract: During successive approximation analog to digital conversion a series of successive digital reference values is selected that converges towards a digital representation of an analog input signal. An analog reference signal is generated dependent on the successive digital reference values and compared to the analog input signal. The digital reference values are selected dependent on comparison results. In the selection of the digital reference values successive steps between digital reference values are each selected dependent on values of the comparator result from a plurality of preceding recursion cycles. The comparison results define a series of successively narrower ranges of digital values that contain a digital representation of the analog input signal. Use of a plurality of comparator results for selecting the steps in the digital reference values makes it possible to reduce uncertainty about whether the comparison result has settled.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 27, 2008Publication date: July 1, 2010Applicant: NXP B.V.Inventors: Simon M. Publication number: 20100166070Abstract: Low complexity method embodiments directly decode low-resolution frames from compressed high-resolution videos that were encoded using predictive coding techniques like the H.264 video coding standard. The smaller the decoding resolution, the higher will be the computation and power savings of using the method. Low-frequency coefficients of 2D transformed predictions are added to the low-frequency coefficients of the transformed residual error. Low-frequency coefficients of the reconstructed data are then inverse transformed taking a smaller size transform. Further savings are obtained by reconstructing only those reference pixels that will be needed for accurate decoding of further Intra blocks.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 31, 2008Publication date: July 1, 2010Applicant: NXP B.V.Inventor: Anurag Goel
